Daniel Wales looks at the latest Middlesbrough transfer news.

00:00now with Rob Edwards coming in to Middlesbrough following the departure of Michael Carrick it's
00:07obviously a new sort of era a new season where they want to get rid of this mediocrity they want
00:13to really make a statement on the division and try and make sure that they are you know
00:18Premier League bound or near the top six at least you feel Middlesbrough have been lingering around
00:25a bit too much and they they haven't really got many windows correct over the last couple of
00:29seasons they need to make sure that they do start to make some statement signings and some smart
00:35recruitment to ensure that they are you know really near the deal for the championship this season they
00:41want to make sure they are bridging that gap they are ready with with Rob Edwards and you know he's
00:46going to target young talent he's going to target some some players he's had experience with possibly
00:52from Luton Town the likes of of Alfie Doherty as well I mean this is interesting the way he's going to
00:59move forward as a new manager as a new sort of era at the club they are sort of looking towards going
01:06forward and making sure they make these big steps towards it I mean Rob Edwards is a fantastic manager
01:12in my opinion Dan our North East correspondent Dan what's the sort of situation with Middlesbrough at
01:18the moment where they are in terms of transfer strategy plans ahead of the season and where they
01:23want to be with some new additions coming through the door well Charles at the moment things are
01:29relatively quiet on the Middlesbrough transfer front not a lot of movement going on but I suspect that's
01:34probably to do with the fact that Rob Edwards and his coaching staff have just indeed arrived at the
01:39Riverside Stadium and of course at Rockcliffe Park as well so they're still probably getting their feet
01:45under the table but in fairness Rob Edwards did say when speaking in an interview to Teesside TV that
01:52he was very aligned with the executive people at the club and the board and the owner Steve Gibson in
01:58terms of what they wanted and what they needed in this transfer window and he was also adamant that there
02:03would indeed be movement both ins and outs would occur at the club so something will happen and things
02:10will happen at Middlesbrough but just not yet we're not quite at that stage yet clean where things are
02:15progressed or advanced enough so that it's going to be hitting the media or that it's going to be
02:20happening at such a such a time yet in the transfer market obviously they had to get that that transfer
02:28done in terms of bringing in a new head coach having relieved Michael Carrick of his duties and that
02:33in itself was not perhaps unexpected I think it's Steve Gibson certainly an owner who likes to give
02:40head coaches time although to be fair to Michael Carrick he had had a couple of years and a bit
02:46longer than that actually so you could argue he'd had time to try and get Middlesbrough up had been
02:53unsuccessful yes he hadn't been helped by some of the players Middlesbrough have sold during Michael
02:58Carrick's tenure such as Emmanuel Latte Lath, Juba Apcom for example Morgan Rodgers players who have
03:04gone on to do really good things so Michael Carrick wasn't helped in that regard but Rob Edwards has
03:10now come in to take up the reins and he is Middlesbrough's new head coach I think given the way he said his
03:17style of play is going to be in terms of direct aggressive forward thinking he'll want big strong
03:23players up front and in attacking roles as well you'll want fast wingers and certainly and midfielders
03:30who can be muscly be strong and hold on to the ball as well and power through so that might hint at
03:37what sort of transfer policy they go for this summer in terms of who they look to bring in certainly they
03:41probably will need a strong and big striker they've got Tommy Conway of course but he doesn't really fit
03:47that mould he'll be really useful to them of course and he scored a good number of goals for them last
03:51season but perhaps he's someone who they might want to be able to play off a different sort of a
03:57striker perhaps more of a traditional striker in terms of the way they want to play with fast
04:01fast wingers to deliver balls into the box as well so it remains to be seen at this time
04:07who Middlesbrough will bring in because as I say we are only a couple of weeks or so not even that
04:13into Rob Edwards's reign at the Riverside and on Teesside so nothing yet happening as I mentioned but
04:20I'd expect movement to be quite quick possibly in the next week or two perhaps three weeks at the
04:26latest before things start happening because of course the championship season isn't that far away
04:31and we're already into July now so Middlesbrough will have to get a bit of a move on so things will
04:35start to happen relatively quickly but to reiterate my point they're not quite at the stage where
04:40they're planning to bring anyone in yet until Rob Edwards himself is settled at the club
