00:00Five individuals, three local men and two Vietnamese women, have been arrested for allegedly
00:08operating a drug syndicate that used the WeChat messaging platform to promote and distribute
00:13narcotics. Johor Police Chief Commissioner Datuk M. Kumar said during a press conference on Wednesday
00:20that the arrests followed three separate raids in Johor Bahru on June 19, during which drugs
00:26worth over 2.9 million ringgit were seized. The syndicate, active since January, is believed
00:32to have operated from two apartment units and a rented room where the drugs were processed and
00:37packed. The suspects allegedly advertised the drugs on WeChat, with payments made online. The drugs
00:44were then left in concealed locations, such as roadsides, drains or dumpsters for buyers to
00:49collect. Among the seized items were nearly 17,000 grams of ecstasy powder, 104 grams of
00:56ketamine, 1,950 aryemin 5 pills, 1,250 ecstasy pills and 35 yaba pills, enough to supply almost
01:0660,000 drug users. Police also confiscated five vehicles, drug processing equipment, 9,100 ringgit
01:14in cash and some jewellery. One of the arrested men is believed to be the syndicate's ringleader.
01:21All five suspects have been remanded until Thursday under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
