An investment agent in a polygamous marriage has claimed trial to charges of distributing, threatening and possessing obscene images of her husband's second wife.

Herni Sofini Omar, 53, entered a plea of not guilty after the three charges were read to her before Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani in Ayer Keroh on Wednesday (July 2).

00:12Fifty-three-year-old Hrni Sofini Omar entered a plea of not guilty after the three charges
00:17were read to her before Magistrate Uthman Abdul Ghani on Wednesday.
00:22She was accused of intending to insult the modesty of her 45-year-old co-wife by distributing
00:27obscene images via mail delivery.
00:31The charge was framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence
00:37of five years' imprisonment, or a fine or both, upon conviction.
00:43The accused was also charged under Section 507 of the Penal Code for issuing a criminal threat
00:49to the same woman via a letter that concealed the identity of the sender.
00:53The offence carries a prison term of up to two years, in addition to any other punishment
00:59provided under Section 506 of the Penal Code, if convicted.
01:04All the offences were allegedly committed at about 2 p.m. at a house on Jalan Meranti-Tiga
01:10in Taman Sayang Selassie on March 27.
01:14The accused also faces a prison term of up to three years, a fine or both if convicted under
01:20Section 292 of the Penal Code for possessing obscene images of the same woman on her mobile
01:26phone.
01:27The offence was discovered at about 3 a.m. on June 2 at the Criminal Investigation Officer's
01:33office in the Malaka-Tenga District Police Headquarters.
01:37During mitigation, Defence Counsel Baharuddin Baharim appealed for lower bail for all charges
01:43on the grounds that his client had no fixed income, recently underwent surgery for cancer
01:48and was abandoned by her husband over the case.
01:52The court set bail at 5,000 ringgit for all charges and fixed August 6 for next mention
01:58of the case.
