00:00I hid them in all sorts of different places. I had them in a desk drawer between my mattress
00:09and my box springs. I hid them in the backyard under pine trees and put pine needles over them.
00:15I kept the cutouts in my closet ironically. I had this great big drum with a big metal lid
00:20and so you could actually strap it tight. We had like a treehouse, you know?
00:24Ah, the Fort of Fowl. Were they Hustler, Penthouse, Playboy, Hustler? There were a lot of Tom of
00:36Finland magazines. Zing. Gay men. Pamperchef. The first one was a JCPenna catalog and I think
00:47that was like a... That is filthy. I know, it was horrible. It was bad. It wasn't even just
00:51like Playboy. It was like a situation. They were raunchy actually. Like Hustler, they actually
00:57had like stills from videos from porn and stuff like that. They were all women. All women?
01:04Yeah. French women, many of them. French women? Oh yeah. So they were really hairy.
01:09Ha ha ha. It wasn't my mom who found them, so... Ooh, tell me who found them. It was my 12-year-old
01:20sister. Oh no! It was Dot. Dot found them. It's Dot. Dot. Dot was our cleaning lady who
01:27came once a week or something like that. My sister walked in while I was, uh, reading.
01:35Mark's jerking off. I am not. Right. I understand. Come on. That's awkward. Great. My parents, they
01:43took the doorknob off of my door growing up and like the door like always was open
01:48like this much all the time. So like I couldn't do anything in there.
01:52Did anyone find them in your room? Nope. You hid them that well?
01:56My parents were too busy looking for LSD and hashish. My mom found them once.
02:02Oh, she did? Yeah. Tell me about that. She didn't really say anything. She just said that
02:07she found something. She never said a word to me. But I knew she found them because I
02:12came back and the bed had been moved and the sheets had been changed and they were gone.
02:18What does this mean? My dad was pretty okay with it. Yeah? And your mom? Yeah. When she
02:25found out she just said, you know, do you want to see a therapist? My mother got on the horn and
02:29called everybody and let everybody know. They staged basically a gay intervention and they
02:34said, we know you're gay. They sat you on the couch and were like, you're gay. They
02:37sat me down. They said, you don't have to hide it anymore. We know you're gay. And I said,
02:39how do you know? How can you know? And my sister said, I found your magazines. And that's how
02:43we found out. Give me three words and how that felt. I was full of shame and guilt and fear.
02:49I was embarrassed. Humiliating, relieved and surprised. I thought I'd pull a fast one.
02:57Therapy. That's therapy, therapy. That's three words. Therapy, therapy, therapy. That's good. I like that.
