00:00This is good right here. This is good right here. Want to touch clubs? Do it now. God bless.
00:10Ray Corona, the third man in the ring as we get ready to go for this one.
00:14Eight rounds scheduled in the welterweight division. El Pela Vacas.
00:19Joel Iviarte, a big fan of Chalino Sanchez, taking on Kevin Johnson from Las Vegas, Nevada.
00:26Man with 18 pro fights.
00:30He is very, very tall. Throwing that jab right off the bat.
00:34Iviarte makes that 147 with ease.
00:38That jab is a really great jab. Right, Jordan?
00:43That jab and the distance that he throws it to, it suits his height.
00:50With Iviarte, we've learned, be ready for something to end any time.
00:55He's had knockouts in the first and second round.
00:59He's never seen the third round.
01:01He comes in and he works quick.
01:05Look at the size difference, too.
01:07Yep.
01:08Does a lot of work at Churchill Boxing in Santa Monica area.
01:13You go down there for sparring.
01:14Comes down from Bakersfield.
01:15Makes it a two-hour drive.
01:17He was recently in the gym with Anthony Davis.
01:19This former Laker was at Churchill and he was there with him.
01:23Had interaction with AD.
01:26No nonsense for the 21-year-old Iviarte, who Oscar DeLoya is very, very high on.
01:31He's throwing everything in his punches, man.
01:35He's not even setting things up.
01:36He's just throwing them, you know.
01:37So, and that's something that, oh, good straight right hand and a body after that, too.
01:42Iviarte's third fight of 2025 at his second round stoppage in February.
01:47First round stoppage in April.
01:48Uppercut from Iviarte pushing Johnson back, who just looks very, very small in that ring with Iviarte.
01:54The high guard from Johnson is giving him time and not getting caught with big shots.
02:03Uppercut from Iviarte.
02:04That's Johnson trying to tangle him up, not working.
02:07But Iviarte's power is definitely very visible from the very first round.
02:11Well, that body shot that Johnson just felt on the right side of his ribs.
02:15Kevin Johnson got some experience.
02:16Maybe part of the game plan was to jump on him quick for Iviarte.
02:19To jump on him quick to not let him get any time to get comfortable in there.
02:22Well, Iviarte is stepping back now.
02:261-2, that lands.
02:27This is where his power comes from, is that distance.
02:30You know, when he smothers his punches, there's really not much power.
02:34And, you know, he needs to be in a distance where his power is at the optimal.
02:42Iviarte's last opponent was 25-11.
02:45The guy before that had over 40 fights.
02:47So it's not like he's fighting guys that are brand new to sport.
02:50The guy's with experience and he's taking care of business.
02:52Iviarte's smothering his punches by being in there.
02:57Earlier on with the distance, he was very dangerous.
03:01What do you think, Jordan?
03:03I like about distance.
03:04I think he's just kind of maybe a little antsy and wants to get right to him.
03:08And you're just, he likes to come out strong.
03:10I think he's just not, he's not really ready to wait.
03:12So maybe he gets that little ants, antsiness out of him in this first round.
03:15Maybe we see it different in the second.
03:16He doesn't need to be here right now.
03:20No, not at all.
03:21I think this is a disadvantage for him, knowing that he's a taller guy and he throws wider shots.
03:26You're smothering your punches that way.
03:28Yeah, you get more leverage on the shots from a little more distance.
03:32I mean, just a little space.
03:33You want to put them on ropes, you want to press forward.
03:34That's cool.
03:35Press forward at your distance, your range, though.
03:37Don't need to be so close.
03:39I agree with that.
03:40You know, that's why there's that jab.
03:42He started off with a jab really well, but he then started smothering it.
03:49He'll replace from that first round.
03:53That's all Iriarte.
03:56That's all Iriarte with a combination.
04:02And Iriarte right there with the strength in his body.
04:06But then this is when he started smothering his punches.
04:08Just where it takes away a lot of his power.
04:12Being a taller guy and wider shots, you've got to get that distance.
04:16You light the jab and throw that straight right behind.
04:19You can be in the back foot, too, if the guy is pressing forward.
04:22But the jab is the one that dictates your distance.
04:25Exactly.
04:26Let's see if the corner talks something that into him and see what he comes out in the second round.
04:2922 years old.
04:30Let me correct myself with Joel Iriarte.
04:32Cuauhtemoc Iriarte in his corner.
04:34Omar Sanchez as well.
04:38I was being told by Golden Boy people that it's hard to match up Iriarte right now because of his power, because of his size, because of his amateur background.
04:49He had a huge amateur background, potential Olympian, but went pro.
04:54Where guys know, hey, I'm going up against this dude.
04:57I need more money.
04:59Right.
05:00And also, you've got to find somebody who's willing to give him that test.
05:04So it's been hard to match him up.
05:07Well, Johnson is showing up in this fight right now with the high guard and throwing combination when he's able to do so.
05:14And, you know, he's landing some early on, earlier on.
05:18So, you know, he's a game fighter.
05:22He's smiling a little bit.
05:23He's talking a little bit.
05:24So, after the first round, it feels maybe a little more comfortable.
05:27Yeah, that feeling out where you're figuring out what you're up against.
05:31Johnson going into the distance with Eric Tudor at Goldemar Prospect a couple weeks ago.
05:36This is where you, the development of a young fighter.
05:38I say that a lot, Nonito, where you want to test them, but you can't test them too hard because they've only had 14 rounds.
05:46Right?
05:46You want to test them and see what you've got, but you can't rush them.
05:50Right.
05:50That was a good counter earlier from Iriarte, you know, with the left hook, and he did it again.
05:55But now, because he's setting up his distance, you know, he's not coming in and pressing forward and smothering his punches.
06:02He's actually stepping back and countering.
06:04So, he's landing those big shots.
06:06Upper cut from Iriarte.
06:07I have a feeling the corner was probably saying some of the things you were saying and probably got him back on track going into the second round.
06:14You see as he's stepping forward, and I like that little feint that he's doing, and then throwing a jab after that.
06:19So, you know, he's taking control by doing so.
06:22Good jab to the body.
06:25That's also something that a young fighter falls in love with, right, Jordan, where you start knocking everybody out.
06:29You just think, I can sit on one punch?
06:31Yeah, exactly.
06:32You got to kind of get a little hyped in your own knockout power.
06:36Like, I just want to crush everyone.
06:39You got to box your way to the title.
06:42Hulk smash.
06:43I do like that jab to the body.
06:44We should keep doing that.
06:45Let's hit the right hand over top, you know, later in this fight.
06:48That's how he's going to set it up.
06:49That's how he's going to set it up.
06:51The right hand or the overhand right by throwing that jab to the body.
06:56Then the jab to the head, jab to the body.
06:58He'll open up a lot of the shots if he's able to constantly do it.
07:04It's Johnson who landed a good left hook.
07:06Johnson's having a better round.
07:08Like I said earlier, he was smiling, talking a little bit, seemed a little more comfortable.
07:12You know, he got out of that first round, and he's like, okay, I'm here.
07:16Well, he's definitely moving and countering really well.
07:20Right hand from Johnson.
07:22Idiarte getting hit for the first time in his career.
07:26Johnson feeling good here at the second.
07:28A little shimmy at the bell.
07:30Two very different rounds.
07:31Very.
07:42Well, Johnson has gotten very, very familiar and very confident in that previous round.
07:49Now we've got to see what Idiarte's next move is for the next round.
07:54I mean, I think that what I believe is throwing that jab, not just the jab, but jab to the body, jab to the head, but not just once.
08:00We haven't seen double jabs.
08:01We haven't seen triple jabs to set up the right hand, to set up the left hook.
08:07Exactly.
08:07And here we go.
08:12Again, his punch is being smothered, but Johnson.
08:15Sure, right to the body.
08:17A good uppercut.
08:18But that's when he was starting to utilize his distance.
08:22I see Joel's looking for the uppercut.
08:26He landed a little bit.
08:30Johnson in the green, white, and red has lost his last four going back to 2022.
08:37He lost to Eric Tudor, who was 12-1.
08:39Before that, Isaiah Johnson, who was 10-0.
08:41Kelvin Davis, who was 12-0.
08:43And then Christian Baez back at 22, was 18-2.
08:46And for the first time in his career, Joel Iriarte sees round number three.
08:51I'd like to see him double jab some more and then to the body.
08:54Just mix up the jab.
08:55I think that'll confuse a lot for Johnson.
09:00And I think he will definitely set up that big shot from Iriarte after those jabs.
09:08Exactly.
09:09I think Joel's going to probably figure out, I can't just throw something.
09:11I'm going to land.
09:12I have to set it up.
09:12I got to trick him.
09:14I got to get him used to something, two jabs up, one jab down.
09:17I got to put him into a rhythm and then set something up.
09:20I got to plan for something.
09:22And I think after the first round, after the second round, he's probably figuring that out.
09:25Okay, I have to put a little more homework in here.
09:28Johnson's smiling.
09:29And then somebody says something from the corner.
09:31He looked at them and shook his head no.
09:34He's feeling confident.
09:36I wouldn't want to stay in the ropes, though.
09:37Oh, good job.
09:38You're feeling confident, but I wouldn't want to be there.
09:40But he is confident.
09:41He's trying to bring in Iriarte off the ropes.
09:44What I want to see with Johnson is double up that jab, a little bit fainting there.
09:49Because he has the skill for it.
09:50He can box.
09:52And that's one thing that he should be doing more often.
09:55You know, he's fainting here and there.
09:56His head movement.
09:58And he's keeping Iriarte thinking.
10:01The 32-year-old's in there giving Iriarte different looks.
10:04And he's very confident in the corner talking to Iriarte.
10:07Well, like you said, Jordan, that's a very dangerous spot to be in.
10:13I know.
10:13He's feeling confident, feeling himself, but still odd.
10:16Why?
10:17Why?
10:17Why this early?
10:18All right.
10:21Iriarte didn't put any pressure on him in there.
10:24Well, Iriarte got caught with a couple jabs.
10:28Earlier, yeah.
10:29And maybe he had to think twice.
10:33There you go.
10:33The double jabs.
10:34We want that double jabs for him.
10:37And it could also work with Johnson instead of just playing the possum game.
10:44Jab up, right hand up top.
10:46Just mix it all up.
10:47Mix it all up.
10:47I think it's there for both of them, actually.
10:48Joel stands sometimes a little tall.
10:50I think the jab low, right hand over top is there for both guys.
10:53Yep.
10:55I agree with that.
10:56Definitely agree with that.
10:57So, you know, mix it up top, bottom, top, bottom.
11:01Instead of just trying to counter, trying to throw those big shots.
11:05Set it all up.
11:06I know it's only an eight-round fight, but I like that right hand right to the elbow of Kevin Johnson from Joel in that Philly shell and whatnot.
11:15That over time does damage to that arm.
11:17And then you can set the right hand over top as well, too.
11:20And that immobilizes his jab hand from countering left hook or anything like that.
11:25And you throw that jab enough time, it'll set up everything else as well.
11:30I think this is Golden Boy is getting what they're looking for.
11:43I think Joel's getting a little test right now, going around four.
11:46I haven't been here before.
11:47I think this is perfect so far.
11:50I think we're just going to wait and see how the rest unfolds.
11:52So, I think some good rounds.
11:54And I think we're going to see a little more of Joel.
12:00Cataraw is back as he takes on Harlem, Eubank, and Manchester.
12:04Can El Gato get back to his winning ways against the undefeated Welterweight?
12:08Find out July 5th live on DAZN.
12:10That's the Duran, Donito DiNera, and Jordan Pantham.
12:16That's the corner of Joel Iriarte.
12:18He's scoring for the fourth for the first time.
12:23Could it be?
12:25I'm just throwing it out there that Iriarte and his team said,
12:27okay, let's get some rounds in.
12:28We haven't had any in this young career.
12:30Oh.
12:31No.
12:32Nobody says, hey, I want a couple more rounds.
12:34I'll take you out as fast as possible.
12:36This is why I'm asking.
12:37The reason I'm bringing it up is because Iriarte, having called his first six fights,
12:42was always coming out quick, boom, boom, boom.
12:44Here he's more reserved to start this fight.
12:47Well, I think that goes to the round one.
12:48The round one he tried.
12:49He put the effort out there.
12:50He's okay.
12:51It's not going to be that easy.
12:52But back to the Duran, I agree.
12:54If you can get someone out of there, get them out of there.
12:56Of course.
12:56You don't play boxing.
12:57You're not going to keep them around.
12:59But I think that first round, I think he came out hard, and he's like, oh.
13:02Oh, he's getting caught with those shots.
13:05My apologies in that one, brother.
13:07Now he was getting caught while he was holding them.
13:10He was looking for Ray Carter to separate them, and Johnson just kept on throwing.
13:14And now we've got a scrap breaking out.
13:17But, yeah, like you said, yeah.
13:19Yeah, I'm not saying that, you know.
13:21Just more of having seen him.
13:23Right.
13:23He's more reserved in this fight than he has been in the past.
13:27Well, it's the opponent.
13:28You know, the guy is landing the shots, too, and countering him.
13:32No, I think he's definitely his most experienced opponent that he's fought.
13:35And he's been a rim of experience, guys.
13:37I know he's been sparring.
13:39Been in the gym sparring with Shakur, Javonda Davis, and Ford, this Kevin Johnson guy.
13:42So, definitely got experience.
13:44But I don't like a firefight for Kevin Johnson.
13:46For Joel, I like the firefighter.
13:47If Kevin Johnson wants to have a firefight, if I'm Joel, sure.
13:50Yeah, Joel wants it.
13:51Uppercut for Mediard fans.
13:54Johnson is back against the ropes.
13:56Uppercut getting through again.
13:57Another uppercut for the man from Sinaloa.
14:02Aside from his uppercut, everything around that shot in that distance is smothered because he is a wide puncher.
14:08He throws a wide shot, and his powers are diminished because of the distance that he's, you know, he's imposing right now.
14:16He might tire Johnson out.
14:18That might be the case for it.
14:20But, oh, that uppercut lands again.
14:22That one lands, and Johnson's trying to hold on to the back of his head.
14:25Another uppercut for Mediard fans.
14:27Oh, there you are.
14:28A minute to go in round number four.
14:31He got hit with the hook, too.
14:34It's funny, though.
14:34You said the only thing landing was the uppercut.
14:36Well, maybe that's the only thing he needs.
14:37Yeah, exactly.
14:39Johnson just trying to make it ugly and rough it up to hold on.
14:43He's got some blood from the bottom lip.
14:45That's Johnson.
14:50A little left mark from Mediard fans.
14:51Those power shots from Mediard fans.
14:53We heard those inside.
14:56High guard from Johnson.
14:58And countering with an uppercut.
15:04Left uppercut.
15:04After that, a left hook coming from Mediard fans.
15:08From the southpaw stance.
15:10No southpaw.
15:10He gets hit twice in the gut.
15:13See, when you're not doing good and you switch like that, sometimes it's a little desperation.
15:17I don't know.
15:19Are you even pity on that, Dinero?
15:20You see someone switch after they're not doing so well?
15:22Well, it's definitely desperation because you want something to kind of shift the momentum
15:30by making them think differently.
15:33But, yeah.
15:33And you can see the way he's walking into the corner, too.
15:35There is exhaustion in his demeanor and in his face as well.
15:41Yeah, it was a good round from Joel.
15:42I like that round.
15:44I hope he capitalizes and continues on the momentum going into round five.
15:48And in that round, those uppercuts were very vicious.
15:55There's a replay as he's holding on.
15:58Oh, that's the one I was telling you.
16:00He was like, how the heck is that happening?
16:02But he's letting those shots.
16:04Protect yourself at all times, right?
16:06That's right.
16:07That's right.
16:07But this is the uppercut right here.
16:09I got an uppercut for you, though.
16:10Yeah, that was my turn.
16:12Push up and then the uppercuts are coming in in this corner one.
16:17Another one.
16:18There's a couple.
16:19Two.
16:20And then it just goes into serious uppercuts.
16:23And I think those were the shots that really tired and slowed down Kevin Johnson.
16:32Round five.
16:33Schedule for eight.
16:38So Ray Corona's on the watch defeat.
16:40Johnson, I think, wants to work with you guys as a commentator.
16:43He's been talking a lot.
16:45And then Ray Corona, let me rep.
16:46Third man in the ring.
16:50Let him know.
16:51Let him know.
16:55The demeanor of Kevin Johnson in this round, it just shows, I guess you would say, the feeling
17:08that he's going to lose this fight.
17:09Like, I can feel that because of the way he is talking.
17:13The way he is.
17:14The way he came out of that corner.
17:17Exactly.
17:18A little agitated, a little annoyed.
17:20From Kevin Johnson, too.
17:22I don't want to go back to the rope.
17:23So he's about to go back there right now.
17:25This is also good for 22-year-old Joel Iviarte to get rounds.
17:29And also get an awkward fighter who's going to show you different things.
17:32Good uppercut.
17:33And then they left for the uppercut.
17:34He's looking for the uppercut.
17:35He's been looking for it since the first round, looking for that uppercut.
17:37He found a home for it in the fourth round.
17:40But he did land this one with a follow-up left hook.
17:45Another one.
17:49And this is also just very tiring for Kevin Johnson, being on the ropes.
17:52And you might say Joel is pretty much just a little watchman.
17:55But he's hitting, he's landing, he's leaning on you.
17:57This is just tiring Johnson out.
17:58Wears you out?
17:59Yeah, Johnson does not want to be on these ropes.
18:02Especially if you're the short-notice guy.
18:05Johnson was called this week as a replacement.
18:08Another uppercut.
18:10That's his shot right there.
18:14Johnson's leaving it open to take advantage, right?
18:19I mean, if you keep getting hit with the same punch, that irritates me.
18:24You've got to do something.
18:25Close the guard.
18:26Lean on the other side.
18:28Take your head off line.
18:30If you sit right in the middle and keep hitting the uppercut, what are you doing?
18:32Do something different.
18:33Well, we'll see that Eriarte right now is very confident in this distance
18:38as he's using a post to kind of set up his uppercut.
18:45See, now I saw Kevin Johnson fight a lot right there.
18:48See, he's fighting back, but you know what that's doing?
18:50It's taking a lot of energy to do all that.
18:52Yeah, especially those little ones that he's doing, too.
18:54And then Eriarte answers with a body shot to the right side of Johnson.
18:5830 seconds to go in round number five.
19:01I think I heard that body shot before.
19:02That body shot is going to take its toll.
19:05You're going to have to break down Johnson's body going upstairs.
19:08Is Eriarte looking for that uppercut?
19:10Just misses.
19:15Johnson's still fighting back.
19:16Oh, absolutely.
19:16But Eriarte right now is very confident in this distance, and he's throwing those shots after Johnson's shots.
19:23Johnson's a tough dude.
19:24He is a tough guy.
19:25Like you said, Jordan, he's never been stopped.
19:27Never been stopped.
19:28He's fighting back.
19:30He's spending a lot of energy, though.
19:31As I say, what he's doing right there is not easing the gas tank for sure.
19:38Three rounds left, still a lot of boxing.
19:45I think Joel's got a chance.
19:48From what I'm seeing, Joel has a chance, I think, the momentum to put him away.
19:52But Kevin Johnson is a very tough dude.
19:54Like I said, he's never been stopped.
19:55Well, right now, again, I look at demeanor and body language, and what I see with Johnson is I believe he's ready to go.
20:06Just big one shot, big shots, body shots, and the power that Eriarte, I think he's going to make it happen.
20:13He's laying the ropes.
20:14Like we saw him do the ropes in the second round.
20:15He's having fun with it okay.
20:17But then in the third round, not very good.
20:20And then the very last round, he's on the ropes for a minute and a half at least, not very good.
20:24If he keeps going back to the ropes for around six, seven, eight, I think Joel's going to find a way to put him out of there.
20:29The uppercuts and the body shots, a combination of those two together.
20:32Especially those uppercuts, right.
20:32Yeah, exactly.
20:33Oh, and the body.
20:34The body is definitely something.
20:35He plays around with it.
20:36You know, two uppercuts, left hook body.
20:38He just plays with the different combinations.
20:40Tap here, hit there.
20:42Might be an answer.
20:43See, I like the fact that when Johnson starts, oh, good straight right hand.
20:49But when Johnson moves around and confuses Iriarte with the jab and just the movement, it slows the fight down.
20:57But if he doesn't do it, then that's when Iriarte comes in and just smother and just make the fight happen for him to tire out Johnson.
21:06Yeah, that's when Kevin Johnson's cornered him.
21:07Like, stay off the ropes.
21:08He spent so much energy on the ropes in there.
21:10Spend that energy staying off the ropes and moving around the ring.
21:13Spend that energy in that department rather than fighting off the ropes.
21:16That's the voice of Golden Boy Prospect, Jordan Panton.
21:19Beto Durant alongside the Filipino Flash.
21:21Nonito Donair, fresh off a victory in Argentina.
21:25The cut healed up nicely.
21:26And wow, big swing to miss that uppercut.
21:28He's trying to end it as Iriarte.
21:31But those uppercuts, Nonito, they have to be set up, right?
21:34They have to be set up.
21:35They have to be set up with the jab, by the feint, and the, oh, good left hook coming in.
21:41And a left hook.
21:42And a left hook.
21:46But the demeanor of Iriarte is different from the way it was earlier on.
21:50He's actually watching.
21:52He's setting things up.
21:53He's looking.
21:54And he's doing a good job.
21:56Yeah, that's a scanning report on Iriarte.
21:57He's very mature, very smart.
22:00But we haven't been able to see it in the seven fights because they've been ending early.
22:03But this is the first time we actually get to see some of his boxing acumen.
22:06He already landed that jabbed the body, ran over top this round.
22:09I'd love for him to give it a go again this round.
22:11Set it up.
22:12I'd love for him to try that specific combination again.
22:15And that's pretty much what he needs to do because if you're going to aim for the head
22:20and the guy's moving his head, guess what?
22:22Sometimes you might hit.
22:23A lot of times you might miss.
22:26But if you're setting up either in the chest or in the body shot with that jab,
22:30you're going to land it every single time.
22:32And as you're progressing in your career, realizing that these veteran fighters know how to roll
22:38with punches, know how to absorb the big shots that somebody in your early career, you hit
22:43them once and they're going down.
22:44Johnson is in that case.
22:45He's in that shoulder roll stance.
22:47Now, if he times the right hand and rolls it, okay.
22:49But hey, if he doesn't time that right hand and gets hip flub shit, it might be night-night.
22:54I mean, you see what Chickasha and Mosley did at Flame Miller.
22:56They almost put him down with that specific combo.
22:57So that combo isn't answered to that style if they're caught slacking.
23:04100% when it comes down to that.
23:06Because a lot of people don't think that just because you got hit with the body,
23:10they think that you're far away with your head.
23:12But sometimes when it's quick enough, you're going to get hit with it.
23:15A previous opponent of yours, Inouye, when he fought, what's his name, from Philadelphia?
23:19Scooter, yes.
23:20Yeah, Scooter.
23:22No.
23:23His name's Scooter, but...
23:25From Philadelphia.
23:26I'm having a brain fart.
23:27He's at Brickhouse training for the fight.
23:28Nelson, right?
23:29No, no.
23:30His fight was in Japan.
23:32Oh, it's going to drive me crazy.
23:33All right.
23:35Steve Fulton.
23:36Steve Fulton.
23:36Steve, yeah.
23:36There you go.
23:37That's the combo to put him down.
23:38He fights in shoulder roll.
23:39He put the jab of the body right hand right over top.
23:41And that's the combination that put that fight away.
23:45So, another example.
23:47But Kevin Jones did better that round staying off the ropes.
23:50Staying off the ropes.
23:50He didn't go there.
23:51And he did a good enough job to slow down the fight by moving his head left and right and
23:58not be a target by just standing in front of Eriarte.
24:02You know, he's moving here and there.
24:03He's moving a little bit of lateral here and there.
24:06So, he slowed it down and gave him a lot of time to breathe.
24:09Now, two rounds to go.
24:19I'm curious if Joel will bring more initiative and really try to bring more pressure here.
24:26Is that okay?
24:26I got two rounds to it.
24:27He looks fresh to me.
24:28I'm looking at him right now.
24:29He looks fresh.
24:32I don't think he's been hurt or phased by any punches from Kevin Johnson.
24:36So, Beco's Finest, Jueli Diarte, family from Tres Reyes, Sinaloa, Mexico.
24:44Also, a lot of family in Culiacan.
24:46Where are you going to see a Culiacan fighter later on in the main event?
24:49Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. against Jake Paul in the main event.
24:53Again, the pay-per-view gets going at 5 o'clock.
24:55Go to thezone.com slash boxing to get the pay-per-view that will open up with Kid Austin.
25:01Floyd Schofield taking on Tevin Farmer.
25:03Five fights on the pay-per-view tonight.
25:05We're in the prelims.
25:06We've got one more to go.
25:07Up next will be Holly Holm and Yolanda Vega.
25:17Good rounds for Jueli Diarte.
25:19We're in the seventh for him.
25:23He started pretty aggressive, but he started kind of slowing down.
25:28But, again, because of Johnson's demeanor coming in, moving his head, like, to kind of confuse
25:35Eriarte.
25:39But that's the veteran move.
25:40Sometimes a good uppercut.
25:42Stepping back.
25:43Yeah.
25:45Nice on the ropes.
25:47Hold.
25:48Spin off.
25:48Don't release and stay there.
25:49Diarte had 10 rounds in his professional career coming into this fight.
25:58I did a little hold uppercut again.
26:00Well, this is where, like you said, to see by being aggressive, this is where his moment
26:14is.
26:14He has to just kind of go and make it happen.
26:16I want to see him work right now.
26:16I want to see him work.
26:17If you're going to break down a guy like Johnson, you have to do it.
26:21You're not going to get him just one shot.
26:22Take a slight step back.
26:23Just a mini step back.
26:24Yes.
26:24Right uppercut, left hook to the body.
26:26Something.
26:26Yeah.
26:27I like that right uppercut.
26:29And then body, like a Canelo kind of shot.
26:33You know, but step back, left hook.
26:35But keep that distance.
26:36And keep it aggressive where you're tiring out your opponent.
26:42Yeah, just a little space.
26:43You saw he just threw a left hook and then went around Kevin Johnson's head.
26:46So, just get a little space.
26:48Push up with a little shoulder right there and then throw a right hand.
26:52You know, for a guy like Johnson, who we brought up early on, has never been stopped.
26:56That's a point of emphasis for him, right?
26:57A point of pride.
26:58Yes.
26:59You're not going to be the first one.
27:01You know, we saw him earlier kind of losing his demeanor.
27:08Oh, good body shot.
27:09That was a beautiful body shot.
27:11Oh, he felt that.
27:13That took something out of a Johnson.
27:14And if you want to stop a tough veteran, sometimes the head's unanswered, sometimes the body's unanswered.
27:19Especially a guy who got called this week, had to lose weight, had to come down.
27:24I felt that body shot.
27:25Oh, yeah.
27:26He felt it for sure.
27:27He's still breathing heavy.
27:28I would have loved for Joel to jump on him a little bit and just try something right there.
27:32But maybe he didn't realize he hurt him.
27:33Well, the demeanor of Johnson is he's going to survive.
27:40Earlier, we thought that there's a possibility of him falling.
27:44But right now, he has the confidence.
27:47We've still got three more minutes to go.
27:49And then in Saturday, August 2nd, Chicago as we're going, the boy will be back for the first time in over a decade.
27:56It'll be Oscar Duarte from Parral Chihuahua going up against a hometown fighter, Kenneth Sims Jr.
28:02Live on The Zone, August 2nd.
28:05Oh, he's got three minutes left.
28:12Three minutes left to survive.
28:13So, the odds are in his favor.
28:15Let's see if Errete comes out or Joel comes out with a little umph, a little fire, three minutes as he put it on the line.
28:25Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round.
28:29If he wants his all knockout ratio, he got to go.
28:33That's right.
28:35Can Joel Iriarte stop Kevin Johnson for the first time in his career?
28:43Johnson has been resistant.
28:45And KG, Yalte controlling this fight.
28:48Hey, Johnson is seeing the light right now.
28:50You know, he's controlling it.
28:52He's having this demeanor that I'm like, I got this.
28:55It's his last round.
28:57The first fight wasn't distance, and I came back to the corners.
28:59The eight-round fight, too.
29:00And they're like, what's wrong?
29:02What's wrong?
29:02I was like, I want to stop him.
29:03How do I stop him?
29:04I was throwing a bunch of, so, um, that's definitely, that's definitely in your head.
29:11Up next, Holly Holm and Yolanda Vega de Sonora, Mexico.
29:22Yeah, this is a good learning experience for young Joel Iriarte.
29:26Oh.
29:26Body shot.
29:27Well, definitely, that was one of the keys.
29:30Take a step back.
29:31Another body shot.
29:32You've been saying that, Jordan.
29:33You want to see him pounce after he lands one of those.
29:35Yeah.
29:37Well, one thing that we see, like Jordan's saying, is that when you have him right there,
29:41just step back a little bit so that your counter or left hook or body shot, whatever it may be,
29:47is going to land stronger.
29:49Sure.
29:49But when you think you might hurt someone, and especially with someone, Kevin Johnson,
29:53everyone's damage in boxing, but he hasn't thrown anything that bothered Joel or her or
29:58nothing like that.
29:58At all, yeah.
29:58So, in a way, I'm saying Joel is kind of safe.
30:01So, when you throw, maybe, you don't even know if you hurt him, but maybe you did, like,
30:05okay, try something.
30:06Try something.
30:07Put something else together.
30:08Put a three-piece together, a two-piece together.
30:09Maybe put something together right there.
30:11Yeah.
30:11Right.
30:12That was a good comment by Kevin Johnson that just landed, though.
30:14Well, he's definitely seeing a lot of, you know, gaining a lot of confidence in his round.
30:21He's fighting well off the ropes.
30:23It's also pretty hard to learn that you can't just knock everybody with one punch.
30:27You said it to me earlier, Lolito, the knockouts get built up.
30:31You got to set it up.
30:34You know, because for me, my left hook, I used to knock a lot of guys out with it.
30:38But because they know exactly it was coming, you know, that it's hard for me to set it up.
30:45You got to have the wrinkles of the game.
30:46You got to do something different.
30:49Blood from the nose of Kevin Johnson.
30:52Tough dude.
30:53Tough dude.
30:54You mentioned it.
30:54I got to give it up.
30:55Got to give it up to Johnson who came in here with the short notice and giving a young,
31:01undefeated fighter with all knockouts all that he can handle.
31:05And then some.
31:06But I think, in a way, this is exactly what Golden Boy is doing.
31:10Good shot from Johnson up here.
31:12He rocked him.
31:14Iliarty got clocked against the ropes.
31:17Oh, he rocked him.
31:19Wow.
31:21Johnson is game.
31:21That was a good overhand, right.
31:23Best shot all night from both fighters.
31:25Goes from Kevin Johnson.
31:27Final seconds of the fight.
31:29Well, maybe that's the answer you were looking for, that he was wary of Johnson's ability.
31:37And this is why he wasn't kind of pressing forward like we wanted him to do.
31:41Maybe Joel's a little more tar than I could do.
31:44He doesn't look good.
31:45But anyways, I think it's a good performance.
31:48I think Golden Boy got exactly what they're looking for.
31:50To get rounds in.
31:51Yes.
31:51I think exactly what he needed and what they were looking for.
31:54I think it's a perfect dance.
31:55Right.
31:56And we love the knockouts, but the development of a young fighter is about these kind of fights.
32:06These are the most important fights.
32:08You know, learning lessons.
32:10Fight that elevates your skills.
32:12Fight that makes you think.
32:14And fight that gives you the second thought of questioning what you need to do in order for you to become what you want
32:25in the vision that you have as a fighter.
32:27This is where the matchmakers did great.
32:28The matchmakers did a great job here.
32:30Yeah, this is great.
32:34DAZN is the official global broadcaster of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
32:40We're into the round of 16, so don't miss some huge matches.
32:43All live on DAZN.
32:51Still waiting on the decision.
32:53There you see Team Iviarte.
32:55So they go to the decision for the first time in his career.
32:58Hey, respect to that man right there.
33:00Kevin Johnson, short notice, shows up.
33:02Pro's pro.
33:04Going eight good rounds.
33:08Veterans.
33:09Sometimes you just know how to survive, man, you know.
33:12And that's something that Kevin Johnson did today.
33:15Yeah, and Joel Iviarte was saying, if I don't ever see that man again, I'm good.
33:18I mean, Deontay Wilder and Mike Tyson have knocked everyone out.
33:21So some guys you hit everybody with with the kitchen sink and they still won't go anywhere.
33:25It's just some guys are built like that, you know.
33:27One more fight to go here on the prelims.
33:33That'll be Holly Holm.
33:35We got Yolanda Vega.
33:38She's 10-0 from Sonora, Mexico.
33:40Holm, of course, all the awards, all the accolades in both boxing and MMA.
33:45Signed to MVP.
33:46Both fighters signed to MVP promotions.
33:49So one more for you here on the preview.
33:555 p.m. is the pay-per-view.
34:0522-year-old, Joel Iviarte.
34:07We'll put Sanchez with him.
34:09Yeah, scorecard taking a little bit longer than I thought.
34:20I'm pretty sure everybody looked at the record, saw what was going on, was thinking,
34:23hey, we're going to get an early stoppage here, which odds were on that side.
34:29You think they didn't even bring a pin?
34:31We had to work for it.
34:36Wait a minute, we were supposed to score this fight?
34:37Right.
34:40Well, good experience for him.
34:41Definitely is a fight that will elevate his mind, elevate his skills,
34:47and elevate his game going forward.
34:49Yeah.
34:50Yeah, he will grow from this fight.
34:52It's all about the development of a young fighter.
34:55Oscar Dilla extremely high on Iviarte, who they signed before,
34:59even turned pro last year.
35:01Oh, Kevin Johnson right there is a man.
35:08Kevin Johnson gives his hand to Ray Corona, another handshake.
35:11Big Mo is inside the ring to let us know who won this fight.
35:21Ladies and gentlemen, after eight full rounds,
35:23we go to the judge's scorecards for the official decision.
35:26Judge Jerry Cantu sees it 78 to 74.
35:29Judge Fernando Villarreal sees it 80 to 72.
35:33And Judge Eddie Hernandez Sr. sees it 79 to 74.
35:36Declaring your winner by unanimous decision, and still undefeated,
35:43Joel Iviarte.
35:46And congratulations to Joel Iviarte for the first time in his career.
35:53Goes the distance.
35:55And he sweeps the cards.
35:56He's now 8-0 with the seven stoppages.
35:59And you see one of those regional youth belts on his shoulder.
36:02So, for Iviarte, quality, quality rounds for him.
36:09He'll learn from this.
36:11So, for Iviarte, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality, quality.
