00:00When power lines fall during or after a storm, the danger is real.
00:11A line that looks dead may still be live.
00:13Always assume that a power line is energized.
00:16Stay at least 30 feet away and then please call us, let us know that there is that infrastructure that's been impacted so a lineman can check and see what's happening.
00:25Another risk, tree trimming.
00:27As hurricane season ramps up, cutting branches near power lines without coordinating with your power company first can be deadly.
00:35Oftentimes we have residential homeowners that are trying to trim their trees and they should absolutely call their power company, regardless, not just Duke Energy, whoever their power company is, so that they could coordinate with them.
00:48Whether you're a single family homeowner, whether you are calling a tree trimmer, so that we can actually work with you and de-energize that portion of the line so that you're working safely around those power lines.
00:59And even if power lines aren't down, they may be hidden in heavy vegetation right in your yard.
01:06It's easy for power lines to get hidden within that vegetation, so it's incredibly important that you look up and look around to be sure that those power lines are not entangled in that vegetation that is now, you know, throughout your yard.
01:18For AccuWeather, the message is simple, stay back, look up, and know what's around you.
