00:00Zach Wheeler has moved from about 6-7 to 1 to win the Cy Young down to plus 350 after striking out 10 yesterday in eight innings for the Philadelphia Phillies.
00:10I don't think this race is over, Joe. I really don't.
00:13I think that with the way that Wheeler is pitching, he's been the best pitcher in all of June.
00:18I don't think anybody else outside of Skeens and Wheeler can win the Cy Young, but has he really made his claim for this to be close?
00:25Plus 350 seems like really generous here to be able to get with the way that he's going.
00:30It does. You know, Skeens was kind of that phenomenon coming into the year, but my preseason wager for National League Cy Young was actually Zach Wheeler.
00:37That was the guy that I invested in. I thought he was the best position, and my concern was win total at the end of the day.
00:43Like, Wheeler could be in a place, theoretically, I thought going into this year where you could win 18 games, and I thought, you know, maybe we could scratch double digits for Skeens.
00:50I don't know, Craig, if we can scratch double digits for Skeens, and I know wins don't matter anymore.
00:56We want to throw all that out the window and all that kind of stuff, but they do matter a certain extent, and nobody has ever won the Cy Young with less than 10 wins.
01:03The only two guys that have won it with 10 wins was Eric Gagne, and he was a reliever, and Willie Hernandez in 1984, also a reliever.
01:10So I think it's going to be a very upward hill battle for Paul Skeens to win this award.
01:15I really do. I know the Pirates have won four in a row.
01:18I know that's been kind of a fun story in baseball right now the last couple days, first time they've done that all year, but at the same time, Wheeler's just set up in a much better position.
01:25I actually thought Logan Webb was an intriguing third guy in this mix.
01:29Last night was not the best start for him, unfortunately, but there is a lot of season left.
01:34I'm going to stick with the horse that I had going into this year, which is Wheeler all along.
01:38The only concern I have with Wheeler is the bullpen of the Phillies, but I do think that's something they're going to address in the month of July,
01:44and when they do, that can only mean potentially more wins for Zach Wheeler in August and September.
