00:00Left adrift and out in the cold, six Filipino seafarers have finally been rescued after nearly three months stranded at sea aboard a ship that was a disaster waiting to happen.
00:11Now the government is cracking the whip on those responsible while also keeping a close eye on our kababayans in conflict areas abroad.
00:18Our Denise Osorio tells us more.
00:19After nearly three months stuck at sea, six Filipino seafarers have finally been pulled from an unseaworthy vessel that was quite frankly a disaster waiting to happen.
00:33With no clean water, no pay, and virtually abandoned by their manning agency, the crew was left high and dry aboard a vessel unfit to sail.
01:11The DMW has also announced it will be bringing the hammer down on the manning agency and ship owner, filing disciplinary and administrative cases over contract substitution, delayed or missing wages, failure to monitor crew welfare, and recruitment violations.
01:29They could soon be stripped off their licenses and may well face international sanctions under port state control and maritime safety regulations.
01:38Yung kapitan na Pinoy, ayaw nilang bumaba kasi they were willing to give the ship owner a chance to resolve the unseaworthiness.
01:50May mga nakitang violations sa hardware, sa struktura ng ship, ang post guard.
01:59Kaya't pinitain yung ship ayaw palayagin kasi orin nga, unseaworthy.
02:04So baka may mangyari, accidente, ganyan.
02:06Meanwhile, the Philippine government continues to monitor over 400 OFWs in Israel, ensuring they're safe and sound.
02:14At the moment, 17 OFWs are still staying in those shelters.
02:37Seven are booked to fly home on the 2nd of July, with another 12 due back in the homeland on the 3rd.
02:44Returning workers are now allowed to go back to their jobs abroad, after the alert level was brought down from 3 to 2.
02:51Even the development of newly hired workers is still on ice.
