Border Czar Tom Homan held a press gaggle outside the White House on Monday, where he was asked about Marines in San Diego helping with border security.
Transcript
00:00Sir, there's a Marine station right now in the San Diego area helping with border protection.
00:05If encounters have dropped as dramatically as we know that we've seen the numbers drop,
00:10why is it necessary for a Marine presence to be there near the San Diego border?
00:14Because it's a national security issue right now.
00:16I think we all recognize the national security temperature right now is at a high level.
00:21We're going to take every opportunity we can to secure that border
00:24and make sure we don't do what the Biden administration did and let the gotaways.
00:28Let me give you, for example, having those resources on the border.
00:31Now, on an average day, under the Biden administration, we had 1,800 gotaways that we knew of, that we counted in 1,800.
00:38You know what they were today?
00:4018.
00:41So we got that border locked down.
00:43So then why is it necessary for the Marine presence to be there in addition to the regular border?
00:48So there's less gotaways.
00:49The more resources we have, the more people we stop and come into the country,
00:53especially right now during national security,
00:55the vulnerability we have right now with Iran and other countries.
00:58I'd rather have too many resources than not enough
01:00because once you make that mistake, there's no going back.
01:03That's right.
