00:51Dance, the owner of TikTok, to sell the video-sharing platform's US assets until September 17th.
00:58This marks the third time Trump has extended the deadline. A deal was being worked on this spring.
01:04Under the agreement, TikTok's US branch was to be transformed into a new US company. Its ownership
01:10and operation would have been in the hands of US investors. But after Trump announced high tariffs
01:15on Chinese goods, China stated that it would not approve it. As a result, that deal was suspended.
01:21According to a 2024 US law, if Byte Dance does not sell TikTok's US ownership or fails to show
01:28sufficient progress on the sale, TikTok will have to cease its operations by January 19th of this year.
01:35Trump believes that TikTok played a role in increasing his popularity among young voters
