A spike in sudden cardiac deaths in Karnataka has shocked the state. 22 deaths in just 40 days—many of them under 45.

00:00In just 40 days, 22 people have died of heart attacks in Karnataka's Hassan.
00:04And it's not just the elderly, some were as young as 19.
00:08On June 30th alone, a 50-year-old homemaker from Belour collapsed after feeling tired.
00:13A 58-year-old professor died suddenly while sipping tea.
00:16A 57-year-old worker passed away after a day of chest pain.
00:20And a 63-year-old man collapsed without warning.
00:23What's especially alarming is the age profile of the victims.
00:26Of the 22 deaths, 5 were between 19 and 25, 8 were between 25 and 45.
00:32Jayadev Hospital in Bengaluru is seeing a sharp rise in cardiac patients
00:36with an estimated 8% increase in footfall in just two weeks,
00:40especially from Hassan and nearby districts.
00:42Many are rushing in for precautionary heart check-ups.
00:45According to the district health department,
00:47Hassan has recorded 507 heart attacks in the past two years
00:50with 190 of them turning fatal.
00:53One thing is a lifestyle and a foot habits and a lack of exercise.
00:57And the main thing is a stress.
00:59But now a new theory is also under scrutiny.
01:02Karnataka CM Siddharamaya has ordered a probe into the spike,
01:05asking a medical panel to investigate possible links
01:08to COVID vaccine side effects, among other causes.
01:11The panic has grown after the recent death of model and actor
01:14Shifali Jariwala, who suffered a cardiac arrest on June 27 at just 42.
