00:00Are you still committed to Article 5 of NATO?

00:03It depends on your definition.

00:04There's numerous definitions of Article 5.

00:07You know that, right?

00:08But I'm committed to being their friends.

00:12You know, I've become friends with many of those leaders,

00:14and I'm committed to helping them.

00:16What do you want the role of NATO to be going forward

00:19once these other countries are spending more?

00:21By having a unified system,

00:23I think we're going to have a stronger peace, a better peace.

00:27And I think we have that.

00:28You know, when I went to NATO, they were broke

00:31when I first started this whole thing.

00:34It seems like a long time ago, nine years, right?

00:36But they were broke.

00:38I knew it immediately.

00:39I said, you guys are broke.

00:41They weren't paying their dues.

00:43Seven of the 28 countries at the time it was 28

00:45were paying their dues, but they weren't paying very much.

00:48NATO was broke.

00:50Then I said, you're going to have to pay,

00:51and we did a whole thing, and now they're paying a lot.

00:54Then I said, you're going to have to lift it to 4% or 5%

00:58and 5% is better.

01:00They just, I guess they're voting on that today,

01:02but they're going to be lifting it to 5%.

01:04That's good.

01:05It gives them much more power.
