00:14The picturesque town, located in the Kangra Valley under the shadow of Daulada range of
00:19Himalayan mountains, is a twin settlement with upper part known as McLeod Ganj, serving
00:25as home to the Dalai Lama, which is a lively spiritual centre, and the lower region that
00:30lies at an altitude of 1,380 metres and serves primarily as a commercial and administrative
00:37centre.
00:45Dharamsala is a melting pot of cultures that is quite popular among Indian as well as foreign
00:50tourists seeking a spiritual rejuvenation, at the adopted home of Dalai Lama, and is home
00:56to a significant Tibetan population.
01:01The town has turned into a virtual mini-Tibet, with a liberal splattering of Tibetan food joints,
01:07curio shops and meditation centres.
01:10McLeod Ganj, the upper town, houses the Tsugla Khang complex, located on top of a mountain
01:16that is the abode of 1989 Nobel laureate Dalai Lama.
01:21The town is currently in the spotlight because of Dalai Lama's 90th birthday celebrations,
01:26in July 2025, and expectations of him announcing his succession plan around his birthday.
