00:00Okay, so here we are, July, tomorrow.
00:03Knicks still don't have a head coach here.
00:05What is going on, Gilbert?
00:06They're using words like casting a wide net,
00:09which tells me that's AKA,
00:11we can't find anybody to coach this team.
00:15So this is actually really interesting.
00:17Don Staley is a possibility for coaching the team.
00:20And again, no disrespect to Don Staley,
00:23they've tried several others that haven't worked.
00:26And so is this realistic?
00:28Do you think that they could actually do this?
00:30I mean, this would be certainly groundbreaking
00:31in the history of the NBA.
00:33I just don't know how realistic it is.
00:35It feels like Staley, regardless, you know,
00:38if she takes the job or not, is what,
00:41their third choice, fourth choice at this point?
00:44Right, I mean, think about all the head coaches
00:46that have turned them down or the franchises
00:48that have denied their opportunities.
00:49They're getting low on their list.
00:51And Don Staley is a great coach, legend in their own right,
00:53especially what she's doing at South Carolina.
00:55And there's history between her and Jalen Brunson,
00:57and got some Philadelphia roots there,
00:58especially with Rick Brunson as well.
01:00So there's a connection there.
01:01And it's always important to keep your star player happy.
01:04But I feel like she is in her best spot in South Carolina.
01:07I think that that would be a tough job
01:09for anybody to take as their first NBA job.
01:11So I don't see it playing out that way,
01:13but I do think it speaks to her excellence as a head coach.
01:15They're going for second round interviews
01:16with Taylor Jenkins and Mike Brown.
01:18It feels like it's going to be one of those guys,
01:19but there's always a room
01:21for a dark horse candidate to come up.
01:22But they need to act quickly
01:23because it's hard to bring in free agents
01:25and make moves when you don't have a coach
01:26to have a vision for their team.
