00:00When you look up at the night sky, it can tell you stuff about your future.
00:07Welcome to WatchMojo, and in this installment of Must Watch, we're looking at movies, shows, and more that defined pop culture in June 2025.
00:16Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, oh, forget it. All right, back to work.
00:21Number 10, F1.
00:22In 1990, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott re-teamed on Days of Thunder, which aimed to be Top Gun with race cars.
00:3035 years later, Bruckheimer and Top Gun Maverick director Joseph Kaczynski gave us F1, which might as well be a Days of Thunder spiritual successor despite swapping Tom Cruise for Brad Pitt.
00:40When was the last time you won a race?
00:41Sunday, Daytona.
00:43Oh, I'm sorry. I meant Formula One.
00:46Oh, I'm sorry. Then, same as you.
00:48Just as Maverick improved upon its predecessor, F1 drives circles around Days of Thunder.
00:54Not just in terms of characters, telling a familiar yet engrossing story about an aging driver proving there's still gas in his tank, but on a technical level as well.
01:02Did you win something?
01:05There's 20 other drivers still out on that track.
01:08Do you think any of them respect us?
01:09Just as Maverick made audiences feel like they were in the cockpit, F1 puts us behind the wheel, going over 100 miles per hour without hitting the brakes.
01:18I'm offering you an open seat in Formula One.
01:22The only place you could say, if you win, you are the absolute best in the world.
01:32Number 9, Atsuko Okatsuka, Father.
01:35You like dad jokes?
01:36Well, Atsuko Okatsuka has a few in her Hulu special.
01:40Even the title is something of a dad joke.
01:42Despite being known as mother to her fans, Okatsuka feels more like a father.
01:46I am father.
01:48This dawned on Okatsuka upon realizing her husband is the only one who does the laundry at home.
01:53You know when you've seen someone do something, so you think, oh, that was me too?
01:59I also did that.
02:02Only to walk up to the washing machine and realize, huh, I've never touched these buttons before.
02:11Okatsuka also talks about her own father, whom she didn't see much of growing up.
02:15You see, her mother and grandmother kind of kidnapped her when they immigrated to the U.S.
02:19We were a girl gang, and my grandma was the leader.
02:23She was the matriarch.
02:24And she called some wild shots.
02:28Like, she convinced my dad, who had full custody of me in Japan, to let her take me on a two-month vacation to Los Angeles.
02:36So he let her, and then she never took me back.
02:40She's since reconnected with her father, finding humor in the whole experience.
02:45Okatsuka might not know how to work a washing machine, but if you need a second for a tandem bike, expect to laugh along the way.
02:51You know what, you guys ask me, what makes a joke a dad joke anyway?
02:55Go.
02:56What makes a joke a dad joke anyway?
02:59Oh.
03:00I guess it's when it becomes a parent.
03:08Number 8.
03:09How to Train Your Dragon
03:10Of all the live-action remakes of animated classics we've gotten this year, honestly, maybe the past several years,
03:16How to Train Your Dragon was easily the best.
03:18These beasts are a threat to all of our lands.
03:22Perhaps that's because DreamWorks brought back one of the 2010 film's directors, Dean de Blois,
03:27who also helmed the two sequels.
03:29Unlike most of Disney's remakes, there's an evident admiration for and understanding of the source material.
03:35I have to kill you.
03:37I will because I'm a Viking.
03:38You hear that?
03:40I'm a Viking!
03:41Some might argue it's too faithful, as this is basically the same story.
03:45Regardless, it's still a timeless tale.
03:47Maybe they're not as bad as we think they are.
03:50In case you forgot, our parents' war is about to become ours.
03:54Figure out which side you're on.
03:55While telling it in live-action isn't an improvement per se,
03:58there is value in seeing Burke brought to life with immersive set pieces and state-of-the-art effects,
04:03not to mention strong performances from Mason Thames, Nico Parker, and Jared Butler.
04:08Here he comes!
04:10Number 7.
04:11The Gilded Age Season 3
04:12Like Julian Fellow's previous series Downton Abbey,
04:15The Gilded Age centers on high society at the crossroads of change.
04:19When you have a nice house, money, you're invited everywhere, what more is there?
04:25As one generation dwells on keeping up appearances and preserving tradition,
04:29the next is more focused on that silly thing they call love.
04:32Our goal was to be a good wife and mother, but I suppose young women don't want that anymore.
04:37Oh, I want to be a good wife and mother who has the vote.
04:41As some relationships bloom, others crumble.
04:43Although divorce is easier said than done during this period, no matter how rich you are.
04:48Season 3 will tackle other social issues such as prejudice,
04:51the right to vote, and the temperance movement.
04:53There's no logic in this at all.
04:55Society is not known for its logic.
04:58It isn't just society as a whole that's headed for change.
05:01With the widowed Ada now possessing a majority of the wealth,
05:04Agnes' position as head of the household is jeopardized in an era of progress
05:08that, like a locomotive, keeps moving forward.
05:11Alcohol is the scourge of many families.
05:14And I want to support causes that are close to my heart
05:17as a way to honor Luke's memory.
05:20You think invoking your late husband's name will silence me?
05:23It won't.
05:24Number 6, 28 years later.
05:2623 years later, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland
05:30return to the franchise that arguably set a new standard
05:32for every piece of zombie media that followed.
05:357, 6, 11, 5, 9 and 20 miles today.
05:404, 11, 17, 32 the day before.
05:44Boost, boost, boost, boost.
05:48The world is still essentially as we left it,
05:51with the rage virus showing no signs of slowing down.
05:53Men, men, men, men go mad with watching him.
05:58Yet 28 years later is about to change as a preteen
06:00copes with his mother's declining health,
06:02searching for a cure against a hopeless backdrop.
06:05Jodie Comer gives one of her most transformative performances
06:08while Ralph Fiennes plays a cryptic character
06:10right out of Apocalypse Now.
06:12Post-Apocalypse Now, if you will.
06:13There are many kinds of death.
06:15On the whole, the film belongs to young Alfie Williams' Spike,
06:19who comes of age as the infected continue to evolve.
06:22This is a glorious day.
06:25A day of judgment.
06:27Here are my children!
06:29Number 5, Elio.
06:31As much as cinephiles dump on sequels, reboots, and cinematic universes,
06:36the fact is that Hollywood isn't going to greenlight original movies
06:39if you, the audience, don't go to the theater.
06:41Which one of these is you?
06:43I don't know, but I think that one is you.
06:46That said, Pixar's Elio deserves to be doing better at the box office.
06:50What seems like a straightforward story about a misfit boy befriending aliens
06:54is a much more poignant meditation on loss, family, and finding your place in the universe.
06:58We search the universe for the dreamers and stargazers like you.
07:03This is awesome!
07:05Maybe these themes were not properly conveyed in the advertising,
07:08or maybe the film's very existence eluded you.
07:11Either way, we can only hope Elio can pull an elemental,
07:14slowly but surely finding a following.
07:16Just as the titular Elio ventures where no human has gone before,
07:19we encourage viewers to embrace the unknown.
07:22These are the lava tunnels.
07:24Gordon, I am not fireproof!
07:26Why didn't you say something?
07:27Just get in my mouth.
07:29Number 4. Predator. Killer of Killers.
07:33Let's shift gears with a completely different animated film that's not for the whole family.
07:43If you were a fan of Dan Trachtenberg's Prey, though,
07:46this one is definitely for you.
07:48Trachtenberg teams with co-director Joshua Wassung of The Third Floor, Inc.
07:51which has primarily worked in visual effects, games, and theme park attractions.
07:56Of course I do!
07:57I do!
07:58Son of a f***!
08:00Predator Killer of Killers marks the company's first animated feature,
08:04telling a collection of century-spanning stories with the Predators providing a common link.
08:08While this anthology expands upon the Predator lore,
08:23it never gets bogged down with exposition,
08:25relying more on visual storytelling and exhilarating action with characters we care about at the core.
08:30With two hits in a row,
08:32Trachtenberg has our anticipation for Predator Badlands at an all-time high.
08:39Number 3. Materialists.
08:41Materialists might seem like a conventional rom-com.
08:44I deserve someone who fulfills all of my criteria.
08:47Nothing over 20 p.m.
08:48I don't want someone who likes cats.
08:50I'm trying to settle.
08:51I promise you're going to marry the love of your life.
08:54While the film does contain romance and comedy,
08:57it's far more adult and nuanced than the superficial fluff that mainstream Hollywood regularly churns out.
09:02You're the matchmaker.
09:03You want a drink?
09:04Sure.
09:04Coke and beer.
09:06Cheerio!
09:09Hey, buddy.
09:11Hi, John.
09:12If you were expecting something lighter,
09:14it is an A24 film from Past Lives director Celine Song.
09:18Clearly, you didn't look beyond the surface,
09:20which in a way ties into the film's themes.
09:22You can do better than me.
09:24My instincts are usually right.
09:25Dakota Johnson makes Madam Web a distant memory as Lucy,
09:29a merchant of true love who seemingly always knows the right thing to say.
09:33That is, until she does something wrong,
09:35not only making Lucy question her profession,
09:37but also her own love life.
09:38We promise them love.
09:40But the math doesn't add up.
09:42Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal are equally great in a love triangle with more than three facets.
09:48Number 2.
09:48Phineas and Ferb Season 5.
09:50While the characters have appeared in other media,
09:53it's been a decade since Phineas and Ferb initially ended.
09:56From the opening of Season 5,
09:58it's as if no time has passed.
09:59And that's what we did for summer vacation.
10:03That's a fascinating report, Phineas.
10:05We appreciate you breaking it up into nine months of installments for us.
10:09Well, we wanted to be thorough.
10:11And you finished just in time for the end of this school year.
10:14With another summer commencing,
10:15we slip back into a formula that somehow never comes off as formulaic.
10:20Isn't it great?
10:21It's like old times.
10:22Like I always say,
10:23if you love something,
10:25set it free.
10:26If it comes back,
10:27trap it!
10:28That's not only a testament to the timeless nature of the characters,
10:31but also this writing team's endless inventiveness.
10:34This first batch of episodes takes us to new depths via a submarine sub-sandwich,
10:39as well as new heights with a giant pogo stick.
10:41Although the stories have kept the comedy fresh,
10:44Season 5 has also addressed lingering plot threads like Stacy learning Perry is a secret agent.
10:48Thanks for sharing this, Perry.
10:50To be honest,
10:51it's been a little awkward since I found out about your secret last summer.
10:54But it is weird this specific thing happens so often there's a pre-made video to deal with it.
10:58But even weirder that they shot it on film.
11:00I mean, how old is this video?
11:02Plus,
11:02we finally got Meet Me in St. Louis.
11:07Me!

11:24Number 1.
11:25The Life of Chuck
11:26Director Mike Flanagan is no stranger to Stephen King.
11:29This adaptation of King's novella
11:31isn't quite like anything Flanagan has tackled before, however.
11:34But if you have heart,
11:35you have hope.
11:37And you
11:40have heart in you.
11:43Although there is a supernatural element,
11:45Flanagan more or less leaves horror at the door,
11:47turning in his most life-affirming work.
11:49Everything you've ever loved.
11:52Everything you see.
11:54You might not think that at first,
11:55as the film opens on a note of gloom and doom.
11:58By beginning with the end, though,
12:00Flanagan leaves us with a desire to make the most of the time we have left.
12:03An ordinary day can become an unforgettable one
12:06with a spontaneous dance in the street.
12:08At a time when it's easy to be cynical,
12:10The Life of Chuck dares to be sentimental and uplifting.
12:13It's a film we could all use.
12:15Isn't that wonderful?
12:16What are some other June releases to catch up with in July?
12:24Let us know in the comments.
12:25Oh, we're not doing a trailer for the next one?
