00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at the movies that put the dream in DreamWorks.
00:1530. Monsters vs. Aliens
00:18Monsters vs. Aliens is in the spirit of a classic B-movie.
00:21No, not that B-movie.
00:23We're talking about Attack of the 50-Foot Woman, The Blob, The Fly,
00:26and various other flicks that would have fit right at home on TNT's monster vision.
00:51Where the laughs in most B-movies derive from the cheap production values and hokey acting,
00:55Monsters vs. Aliens comes with state-of-the-art animation in an all-star cast.
01:06There's still plenty of laughs to be had through an assortment of clever psych gags and in-jokes,
01:10which can admittedly overshadow the straightforward story.
01:13With a title like Monsters vs. Aliens, we think most people know where the priorities are gonna lie,
01:17in the humor, action, and chemistry between these colorful characters.
01:27Sinbad sometimes gets a bad rap because of its poor box office performance,
01:30which ultimately convinced DreamWorks to go all-in on CG animation moving forward.
01:35We wouldn't say the film is an unsung masterpiece, as the characters and story are somewhat generic.
01:47That doesn't mean there isn't a sea of wonders to admire, namely in the animation and worldbuilding.
01:52It's a shame we didn't get to see much more of this universe, which overflows with stunning locales,
02:09creative monsters, and in some cases, creative monsters that serve as stunning locales.
02:13The film also has one of DreamWorks' most underappreciated villains of Eris,
02:17an ever-evolving visual marvel exquisitely paired with Michelle Pfeiffer's deliciously malevolent voiceover performance.
02:24She steals the whole show.
02:26Well, well, well. This has got to be a little embarrassing for you, Eris.
02:31Hmm. Don't push your locks in bed. You're cute, but not that cute.
02:38Number 28. The Boss Baby
02:40There have been some odd DreamWorks animated movies, and then there's The Boss Baby, which is on a whole other level.
02:46Well, trust me, ma'am. You've got the right baby for this job.
02:49Hands up, double baby!
02:51Fart poop duty!
02:52I've got to deal with the KID.
02:57It follows a young boy who helps his new baby brother, a secret agent of Baby Corp,
03:01to figure out why the love of adults has been more focused on puppies instead of babies lately.
03:06Babies aren't getting as much love as we used to.
03:08Why? Have we been bad?
03:10No, Stacy. But I'll tell you who is.
03:13Behold our mortal enemy. Puppies!
03:16See? Odd.
03:17But it's undeniably hilarious and never shies away from its strange concept.
03:21Alec Baldwin's work as the Baby Ted is so fantastic, it unsurprisingly led to a franchise.
03:27He's not the only talented actor to turn in great work as the cast also boasts Steve Buscemi, Lisa Kudrow, and Jimmy Kimmel.
03:34Number 27. Dog Man
03:36Much like how the titular character is a fusion of dog and man, this adaptation of Dave Pilkey's book series strikes a balance between an animated feature and a Saturday morning cartoon.
03:46The aesthetic purposely mimics the sketchy simplicity of a child's comic book, but the imagery is brought to life with a seasoned team of animators.
04:06The plot is more or less an excuse to tell silly jokes and indulge in our inner immaturity.
04:10Come on!
04:12Arise, my beastly building! Arise!
04:16While Dog Man leans toward the grade school crowd, there's a surprisingly adult message about parenthood.
04:21Some parents will always disappoint you, others are deeply flawed but can surprise you, and the best are as reliable as a dog, or in this film's case, a dog man.
04:29Nah, you guys go ahead. I'm gonna go back to the lab and start over, I guess.
04:34Number 26. Puss in Boots
04:37After seeing the cute but deadly Furball debut in Shrek 2, we were delighted this feline swordsman got the chance to star in his own film.
04:44Alright, cat, give me them beans!
04:48Is it true a cat always lands on its feet?
04:51No! That is just a rumor spread by dogs!
04:54The spin-off follows Puss before meeting Shrek and Donkey on an adventure to steal a golden egg-laying goose.
05:00The character is just as charming as he was before and voiced flawlessly again by Antonio Banderas.
05:05We can go our separate ways. Together.
05:11Puss, you have to go now.
05:13You do not have to push me away anymore. You can trust me.
05:17Given Puss's talent with a sword and tendency for swashbuckling, it also has pretty stellar action sequences.
05:23Throw in some unique takes on popular fairytale characters to show that the well hadn't run dry,
05:28and you've got an awesome standalone story for one of Shrek's best supporting characters.
05:32Number 25. Abominable
05:34We guess great minds think alike as we wind up getting three Yeti-related animated movies in roughly a year.
05:39Look at him! He's a Yeti! Cool!
05:44What? No! Yetis don't exist!
05:47Coming out on the heels of Sony's Smallfoot and Leica's missing Link, Dreamworks' Abominable ran the risk of being too familiar.
05:53Wait. Wait. We are not going over that.
05:57Come on, Empress. I'll race you.
05:59While the set up of a child befriending a cuddly monster is one we've heard before,
06:03Abominable brings several distinct touches with its hair-raising animation,
06:07strong sense of culture and atmospheric music, which elevates the story in more ways than one.
06:16Go! Go! Go! Go!
06:17This is a film where the audience practically feels the music, just as they feel at one with the great outdoors on a road trip
06:23that'll leave you with a newfound appreciation for the flowers, berries and other natural pleasures we take for granted.
06:29I can't believe the journey's over.
06:32Hmm.
06:33Number 24. Rise of the Guardians
06:35Before he was one of the key creative figures on Into the Spider-Verse,
06:38Peter Ramsey made his feature directorial debut with this adaptation of William Joyce's book series.
06:43Who are you, Jack Frost?
06:46What is your center?
06:48My center?
06:49If man and moon chose you to be a guardian, you must have something very special inside.
06:56The same year the Avengers assembled, DreamWorks gave us another crossover event,
07:00bringing together Santa, the Tooth Fairy, Sandman, Easter Bunny and Jack Frost in a battle against the Boogeyman.
07:06All this fuss over one little boy and still he refuses to stop believing.
07:12Very well.
07:14There are other ways to snuff out a knight.
07:17While the setup and characters are simple enough, Rise of the Guardians delves into nuanced themes about the importance of childhood.
07:23We see so many movies about young people coming of age, which we're all for.
07:27Yet there's also value to preserving one's innocence, as you only get to be a kid for so long.
07:31That doesn't mean your youthful imagination can't follow into adulthood.
07:35Merry Christmas!
07:37Happy Easter!
07:38Don't forget to floss!
07:40Number 23.
07:41Captain Underpants, the first epic movie.
07:43Those who read the Captain Underpants books when they first hit shelves were old enough to have kids of their own by the time the first epic movie came along.
07:50You are now the greatest superhero of all time!
07:54The amazing Captain Underpants!
07:57they're also the upon- 만 dollars and tragic story of this!
07:58Crypto заimpun стать
07:59almost had RichardCT冠
08:06The Elliot Ring Rheime
08:09Thus there's plenty of kids and adults to enjoy in this animated adventure, which we think everyone can agree would HAVE worked in live action.
08:22is about to go extinct and a new world order is about to rise. DreamWorks' foray into the Dave
08:30Pilkeyverse captures the spirit of the books, championing youthful rebellion while taking a
08:34stand against authority. It does so with fast-paced animation, fun voiceover performances,
08:39and potty humor that's smarter than it sounds. While the film was released in 2017, it just as
08:44easily could have come out in 1997. It goes to show that the source material has endured like
08:48a pair of tighty-whities. 22. Orion and the Dark
08:59It might have been sent straight to Netflix, but that doesn't mean you should sleep on
09:02Orion and the Dark. Being afraid of the dark is a universal phenomenon that sounds cliche
09:17at this point. When you have Charlie Kaufman as a writer, though, the execution is one
09:21of a kind.
09:22You know, you really have come a long way.
09:28Uh, I don't know about that.
09:31The film merges Kaufman's signature wit and anxiety-riddled characters with DreamWorks'
09:36spirited animation in Adult Edge. Not too adult, as the film is best described as eternal sunshine
09:40of the spotless mind for beginners. Like that film, this adaptation of Emma Yarlett's book
09:45plays with reality and abstract concepts in inventive ways. What starts with a basic idea
09:50snowballs into something far more complex, much like a dream you want to see the outcome
09:54of.
09:55So, you gonna go on that field trip tomorrow?
09:58Yup.
09:59You nervous?
10:01Terrified.
10:06But I'm going anyway.
10:08Good for you, kid. You're gonna be alright.
10:11When making a movie about a famous lost city of gold, you have to really capture the sense
10:18of adventure. Thankfully for its third animated outing, DreamWorks nailed it. El Dorado follows
10:24two Spanish con artists who find their way to the city, only for its citizens to mistake
10:28them for gods. The chemistry between Miguel and Tulio, voiced by Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline,
10:45respectively, is incredible. While the story plays out pretty much how you'd expect, there's no denying
10:50how fun of a ride it is. Plus, it's elevated by a great soundtrack, with Hans Zimmer contributing to
10:56the score, and Elton John and Tim Rice writing some of the songs.
10:59It's tough to be a god, but if you get the people's nod, shout your blessings, yeah, keep
11:07them sweet, that's our advice.
11:10Number 20.
11:11Stallion of the Cimarron
11:13Plenty of films have been made about the American West, but not many are from the perspective
11:17of a horse. Spirit follows the titular rambunctious stallion as he's stolen from his herd during the
11:35American Indian Wars. Unlike most animated films, the plot is played rather seriously with no cute
11:40sidekicks and an overall lack of humor. It's rather commendable, instead putting all the focus on
11:45spirits' refusal to be tamed by ruthless humans. The film is gorgeously animated, and its themes of
11:51freedom and staying true to yourself are something any audience member can relate to and appreciate.
11:55But that goodbye was harder than I ever imagined. I'll never forget that boy,
12:03and how we won back our freedom together.
12:07Number 19.
12:08The Bad Guys
12:09DreamWorks' 2022 crime comedy is another wonderful achievement. Based on the beloved book series,
12:15by Aaron Blaby, it follows a group of criminal animals that try to redeem themselves in the
12:19public's eye after being caught.
12:20You saved them?
12:22Yes!
12:23Yes!
12:24It's working!
12:27You filmed that?
12:28Yes, and they're starting to like you!
12:31Yeah!
12:32Hooray!
12:32It's plot and theme of striving to be good may be simple, but the rest of the movie makes up for it.
12:38The voice cast is firing on all cylinders, and includes the likes of Sam Rockwell,
12:42Awkwafina, Greg Robinson, and Marc Maron. Their talent can make even the lamest jokes soar,
12:47but we're grateful that the script is genuinely funny.
13:02Additionally, the animation is sleek and stylish, fitting nicely with its heist-centric plot.
13:08Number 18.
13:09Flushed Away
13:10With a title like that, one might expect that Flushed Away would be a low-brow feature only
13:14the youngest of kids could enjoy. But that thankfully isn't the case. When the spoiled
13:18mouse Roddy St. James is flushed down the toilet by a sewer rat, he goes on an adventure with the
13:23seasoned Rita to find his way home.
13:25I was wondering if you do build a Jammie Dodger Mark II, you wouldn't happen to need a first mate,
13:33would you?
13:34Only he also has a villainous Toad to contend with. Every character is more entertaining than the last,
13:39voiced impressively by Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Andy Serkis, and Sir Ian McKellen.
13:45It was the first CGI animated movie from DreamWorks partner studio Aardman Animations,
13:50which still kept the charm and appeal of its previous stop-motion features.
14:04Number 17.
14:05Trolls
14:06Leave it to DreamWorks to create a movie based on a decades-old toy line and have it be a smash hit.
14:11This is where we will rebuild our civilization. It has everything we need. Fresh air, clean water,
14:22and sweet acoustic! Acoustic!
14:25The Jukebox musical chronicles the liberation of the trolls, who have been in hiding for 20 years
14:30from the nasty Bergens who once kept them imprisoned and ate them. Despite its dark premise,
14:34the film is exceptionally bright and colorful. Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake shine in the main
14:39roles, but there's a bevy of fantastic supporters like Zooey Deschanel and Gwen Stefani. Among the
14:45recreations of popular songs like Earth, Wind, and Fire's September are insanely catchy original
14:50songs like the Oscar-nominated Can't Stop the Feeling. And now, it's stuck in our heads again.
15:03Number 16. Madagascar 3, Europe's Most Wanted
15:06The Madagascar series had a solid start, but it didn't quite reach its full potential until the
15:11third entry. Europe's Most Wanted follows our heroes as they leave Africa, joining a traveling circus
15:16in Europe and fleeing a merciless animal control officer. As it turns out, the circus was the perfect
15:21setting for them. The various circus acts make for some marvelous sequences.
15:25And the new voices, which include Jessica Chastain, Frances McDormand,
15:40and Bryan Cranston are delightful additions to the already zany animal cast. A sequel surpassing the
15:46original is almost unheard of, but with its manic humor and delightful plot, this one pulled it off.
15:50Number 15. The Croods. With every strict family comes a rebellious teen, even in prehistoric times.
16:08The Croods follows a family of cave people who must venture into the unknown after an earthquake
16:13destroys their home. But when his daughter seeks to explore a different life, thanks to the arrival
16:27of the intelligent and charming guy, Patriarch Grug struggles with getting stuck in the past.
16:32The Croods is both funny and silly for kids to enjoy, but also focuses on the vital themes of
16:37acceptance and willingness to change. It naturally features a smaller cast than many other Dreamworks
16:42animation movies, but Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds all crush it.
16:47The Croods. If you weren't clued in by the suntans and pets, we're not exactly cavemen anymore.
16:57Let's do it again. I think I blinked.
16:59Number 14. How to Train Your Dragon The Hidden World. Sequels are hit and miss, but the How to Train Your
17:04Dragon Trilogy had the most consistent run in Dreamworks Library.
17:07You think you can come into my home, sit in my father's chair, and threaten my dragon?
17:14This is Burke, and we have defended our way of life from far worse than you.
17:19Where so many animated characters forever remain the same age,
17:22Hiccup is a protagonist we saw mature over nearly a decade. We also grew during this period,
17:27mirroring the hero's journey to an extent.
17:29Part of growing up is accepting change, which has become a common message in animated sequels as of
17:46late. Few stuck the landing better than The Hidden World. Though, bringing Hiccup and Toothless' journey
17:51to a natural conclusion. It isn't an easy goodbye, but it feels just right for these characters.
17:55Of course, every flight into the sunset brings a new beginning.
17:59Legend says that when the ground quakes, more lava spews from the earth,
18:04it's the dragons, letting us know they're still here.
18:09Waiting for us to figure out how to get along.
18:12Number 13. Kung Fu Panda 2.
18:14Who could have guessed that something as silly as a panda martial artist would spawn a heartfelt franchise?
18:19The dragon warrior!
18:22The panda? That's impossible!
18:25My fist hungers for justice.
18:28That was my fist.
18:29Following the 2008 original, this sequel followed Poe, now working with the Furious Five,
18:35to stop a villainous peacock named Shen. The plot may be a bit of a retread, stop another evil animal
18:40from causing chaos, but everything else about it is stellar. The voice acting, particularly Jack Black as Poe,
18:47and Gary Oldman as Shen, is just as strong as it was in the original.
18:50See, that's the thing, Shen. Scars heal.
18:54No, they don't. Wounds heal.
18:58Oh yeah, what do scars do? They fade, I guess?
19:01The fight sequences are even more impressive thanks to improved animation and choreography,
19:05and it isn't afraid to get a bit darker, offering emotional weight. It made us ecstatic for a third outing,
19:11which released in 2016.
19:12In a time where only superheroes were shining on screen, DreamWorks decided to make a movie from
19:19the perspective of a villain.
19:21How do I look, Minion? Do I look bad?
19:23Disgustingly horrifying, sir.
19:25You always know what to say.
19:27Oh, the brain bot certainly missed you, sir.
19:29Did you miss your daddy?
19:30Who's a menacingly cyborg?
19:31You are, yes you are.
19:33The result is one of the best animated comedies the studio ever put out.
19:37Will Ferrell plays the lead perfectly, an evil alien who seemingly defeats his arch nemesis,
19:42only to feel purposeless after.
19:44He then creates a superhero to fight, only for the hero to enjoy playing a villain much more.
19:49Although some of its elements still felt a bit overdone, the voice cast and jokes never miss.
19:54Now hand over your wallets.
19:57I'm just kidding.
19:58I'm just kidding.
20:00I have to admit, being good has its perks.
20:05There's plenty of superheroic action and flair to keep audiences of all ages entertained.
20:12DreamWorks Animation began with a bang,
20:13but also with a much more serious tone and a heavy dose of existentialism.
20:17Ants chronicles the life of Zeke,
20:19a nervous worker ant who becomes a soldier despite being small and pessimistic.
20:23Don't you realize that I'm out of your league?
20:27You're the one who was cruising the worker bar looking for a little action,
20:30and you just happened to find it.
20:32The swathe, earthy, sensual worker.
20:36It was a technical marvel at the time it was released and boasted an incredible cast
20:40with the likes of Gene Hackman, Christopher Walken, and Sylvester Stallone.
20:43Although it had some darker elements, it was also incredibly funny and managed to steal some
20:48thunder from Disney and Pixar's A Bug's Life, which released the same year.
20:52More importantly, it imparted lessons about preconceived notions and believing in yourself,
20:57important for kids to learn and vital for adults to remember.
21:00I got orders, and those orders say dig.
21:03What if someone ordered you to jump off a bridge?
21:07Oh, brother, I'm asking the wrong guy here.
21:09Look, think for yourselves!
21:12Give me that!
21:12Number 10.
21:14How to Train Your Dragon 2
21:15The Dragon trilogy went out on a high note with The Hidden World,
21:19but this is still our favorite of the sequels.
21:21With the citizens of Burke now living harmoniously with dragons,
21:24Hiccup then has to deal with his father's plans for the future,
21:27the return of his mother and a bloodthirsty warlord with a dragon army behind him.
21:31We must attack the Dragon Riders nest at once!
21:36We will take down their alpha, and then we will take burn!
21:42The animation is jaw-dropping, particularly in flying scenes.
21:46The plot offers plenty of emotionally resonant moments,
21:49never flinching when it comes to the heavier elements,
21:51but there is still plenty of fun to be had.
21:53The relationship between Hiccup and Toothless is so strong,
22:06it makes us wish that we had a dragon companion, even more than we usually do.
22:11Number 9.
22:12Puss in Boots The Last Wish
22:14While we enjoyed the first Puss in Boots, it was a dress rehearsal compared to this sequel,
22:18which takes every element to new heights.
22:20From the stylized animation, to the laugh-a-minute comedy,
22:23to themes that'll resonate more with adults than kids.
22:26So, I ran.
22:30It was a mistake, kitty.
22:33It's okay.
22:34No, no, it was cowardly.
22:36It's okay.
22:37Our hero might be a talking swashbuckling cat, but The Last Wish is a surprisingly mature
22:41meditation on mortality, anxiety, and what makes life worth living.
22:45What's going on with you, Puss?
22:49I...
22:50I am down to my last life, and I...
22:57I am afraid.
22:58The filmmakers mix the fantasy setting with the nuances of a classic western,
23:02as our aging hero chases a horizon, when what he's truly looking for is riding beside him.
23:07We don't know how many more lives the Shrek franchise has, but The Last Wish is living
23:11it to the fullest.
23:13I hate to say it, but should we make a wish?
23:16Kitty, one life spent with you is all that I could wish for.
23:22Number 8.
23:23Wallace and Gromit The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
23:26We love a good animated horror parody, and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit may just be the very best one.
23:31The gold carrot belongs in the show!
23:34No, the golden carrot belongs in the were-rabbit.
23:37Huh?
23:42Based on the Wallace and Gromit shorts of Aardman animation, the film follows the unusual inventor
23:47and his highly intelligent dog, as they attempt to stop an oversized rabbit from destroying their
23:52town's crops.
23:53That sounds very simplistic, but it's actually surprising how heartwarming and hilarious the film is.
23:58Jeez!
24:00It's me again!
24:01I'm back!
24:03Gromit!
24:04You clever mutt!
24:06Well done, old pal!
24:08It has as much charm as the stop-motion shorts that inspired it and then some,
24:13showcasing how magnificent the art form is.
24:16It's no wonder it earned DreamWorks the Best Animated Feature Oscar, its second following Shrek.
24:22Number 7.
24:23Shrek
24:24By far one of DreamWorks animation's most successful movies,
24:27Shrek took the world by storm when it released in 2001.
24:30But I don't understand.
24:33I'm supposed to be beautiful.
24:38But you are beautiful.
24:39It focused on an ogre's rescue of a princess in order to get his swampland back from displaced
24:44fairytale characters.
24:45It was unlike any other animated film at the time, with incredibly witty dialogue,
24:50wonderful spoofs on stories we all knew, and a soundtrack of modern music that somehow blended
24:55ridiculously well with the story.
25:07While it was lovely seeing so many beloved characters in one movie, it was Shrek,
25:12Fiona, and Donkey, as well as the moral about looking past appearances, truly made it worthwhile.
25:18Number 6.
25:19Kung Fu Panda
25:20The original film that kickstarted the franchise followed a clumsy panda with larger-than-life
25:25dreams of becoming a renowned martial artist. Similar to other films in the DreamWorks animation
25:30catalogue, it expertly navigates themes of believing in yourself and living up to your
25:34potential in a way kids can appreciate.
25:36It's okay, I didn't get it the first time either.
25:39What?
25:41There is no secret ingredient.
25:44It helps that it is lovable goof at its center and some dazzling fight sequences to keep everyone
25:48entertained. Beyond that, it features stunning art direction that was brought to life supremely
25:52well thanks to the animators. Of course, none of it would have worked quite so well if not for
25:56the pitch-perfect casting of Jack Black as foe.
25:59You'll never be the dragon warrior unless you lose 500 pounds and brush your teeth.
26:04What is that noise you're making? After? I never heard of it.
26:08Work hard, Vanda, and maybe someday you will have ears like mine.
26:13Number 5.
26:13The Prince of Egypt
26:15In all honesty, an animated retelling of Moses' life has no right to be this good.
26:19For those unfamiliar with the Book of Exodus, the film follows the Hebrew Moses after he was
26:24adopted by Egypt's pharaoh following a mass infanticide. Raised as a prince,
26:29Moses grows to accept his true purpose from God, freeing all the Hebrew slaves.
26:34But there is one thing he cannot take away from you, your faith.
26:42Believe, for we will see God's wonders.
26:46As only the second theatrically released animated movie from the studio, it's remarkable how gorgeous
26:52a hand-drawn animation is, putting it on par with Disney. It brought one of the Bible's most famous
26:57tales to the big screen in a highly unique way, and earned an Oscar for Best Original Song in the Process.
27:03There can be miracles, when you believe, the hope is real, it's hard to kill, it's hard to kill.
27:18Number 4.
27:19Chicken Run
27:20The first partnership between DreamWorks and Aardman Animation is equal parts animated family
27:24comedy and thrilling prison escape film.
27:27This is us, right? We get in like this, and let her go.
27:38After a rooster crash lands inside an egg farm, the anthropomorphic chickens inside
27:43see him as their ticket out. With the owners planning to turn them all into meat pies, the stakes are
27:48pretty high. Chicken Run brings the simple but brilliant slapstick humor from the Wallace and
27:53Gromit shorts, which is enhanced by brilliant voice acting and exciting action sequences.
28:03Not only was it a critical darling, but it also became the highest grossing stop-motion
28:08animation film, a record that it still holds.
28:15Number 3.
28:15The Wild Robot
28:16Early in its genesis, Lilo and Stitch was going to be about an alien that crash lands on Earth and
28:21interact with forest animals.
28:23Hello. Did you perhaps order a Rossum Helper robot? Is that a no?
28:29Things came full circle almost 20 years later when Chris Sanders adapted Peter Brown's illustrated
28:34novel. Instead of an alien, though, it's a robot who finds a purpose and soul among wildlife. Despite
28:39the lack of human characters, the wild robot bursts with humanity in every frame of animation and
28:44heartfelt line of dialogue.
28:46I expected to have at least one friend by summer, but they all just...
28:49Scream and run? Yes!
28:51I have experienced the same phenomenon. Think?
28:54Beats me. Nothing weird about you two.
28:57It's anything but artificial, serving as a reminder that while technology can be our friend if used
29:02responsibly, nothing can replace the personal touch of an artist. Humorous, uplifting, and calling a
29:07living painting to mind, it's the stuff that DreamWorks is made of.
29:11It was no surprise to hear that the fabulous Shrek was getting a sequel. What was surprising,
29:27however, was how incredible it turned out to be. The sequel obviously shared some similarities with
29:33the first, including pop culture references and fairy-tale parodies, but everything Shrek did,
29:38the follow-up did just a bit better. It followed Shrek meeting his in-laws for the first time at
29:43Fiona's magical home of Far Far Away.
29:57The humor pleased both children and adults, with new characters like Puss in Boots and the arrogant
30:02Prince Charming stealing the show. It also managed to one-up the original soundtrack thanks to one
30:07of the best covers of all time, the fairy godmothers holding out for a hero.

30:38Number one, Shark Tale. Martin Scorsese is a puffer fish, now this is cinema. It's not really our top
30:44pick though.
30:44The Foxlayer made me his manager, so I'm now what I like to call untouchable. You hear me?
30:50Number one, How to Train Your Dragon. How to Train Your Dragon is not only the best DreamWorks
30:55animation movie, it's one of the best animated movies, period. Reluctant to become a dragon-slaying
31:01warrior like the rest of his peers, Young Hiccup discovers that there's more to the feared creatures
31:05than anyone thought. It's a timeless tale of a misunderstood hero and his bond with an unbelievable
31:21creature. That bond is magnificently explored through charming voice work, endearing characters,
31:26beautiful animation, and an extraordinary score from John Powell. While other places have ponies or
31:33parrots, we have dragons. At times touching, at others amusing and heartwarming throughout.
31:42How to Train Your Dragon is a movie that makes our hearts soar just as high as its characters.
