Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump was asked about attempts to get a Gaza ceasefire.
Transcript
00:00Mr. President, Mr. President, on the subject of peace deals, how close are you and your administration to a deal in terms of Gaza ceasefire right now?
00:12Often asked, and I think it's close, I just spoke with some of the people involved.
00:18It's a terrible situation that's going, Gaza, he's asking about.
00:22And we think within the next week we're going to get a ceasefire.
00:26And we're supplying, as you know, a lot of money and a lot of food to that area because we have to, I mean, you have to, in theory, not involved in it, but we're involved because people are dying.
00:37And I look at those crowds of people that have no food, no anything.
00:41And, you know, we're the ones that are getting it there.
00:45Some of it's being taken by some bad people, you know, if you give it and you give it out, and they're supposed to be taking care of the people and they end up stealing the food and selling it.
00:54But we have a pretty good system now.
00:57But so we're helping with that.
00:59You see the lines of people that just get one meal, essentially.
01:05But it's too bad.
01:07Other countries aren't helping out.
01:08Nobody's helping out.
01:10We're doing that because I think we have to on a humanitarian basis like this.
01:16We didn't have to get involved in Africa, but we did because we thought it was.
01:19I mean, I've been reading, like J.D. said, he's, you know, from much of his life, he's been just seeing this about this brutal war.
01:28And it actually got a lot of publicity because of the level of brutality.
01:32It was it was nobody's ever seen anything like it.
01:36And to be involved in that, I mean, I consider this the most important of my conferences today.
01:42We just had a great Supreme Court victory today and and everybody would say there was big.
01:47But, you know, we're talking about saving thousands and probably millions of lives here.
01:52This is more important than anything.
01:55So it's great.
01:56But we're working on Gaza, trying to get it taken care of.
01:59And again, you know, a lot of a lot of food has been sent there and other countries throughout the world should be helping also.
02:05And I don't know.
