As inflation remains at 2.6%, Denmark was the most expensive country for bread and cereals, as well as for fish, while Romania is the least expensive for fruits, vegetables and potatoes.

00:00Which EU country pays the most and the least for food, drinks and tobacco?
00:09EU inflation was at 0.1% in 2015 and by 2024 had increased to 2.6%.
00:18In 2024, the highest annual inflation rates among EU member states were recorded in Romania at 5.8%,
00:26Belgium at 4.3% and Croatia at 4%.
00:31Price levels for food and non-alcoholic drinks were 25% above the EU average in Luxembourg,
00:37followed by Denmark at 20%.
00:39On the other hand, Romania's prices were 24% below the average, followed by Slovakia at 17%.
00:47Luxembourg was the most expensive EU country for food,
00:50while Finland was the most expensive country for alcoholic drinks.
00:54By contrast, the lowest prices for food were observed in Romania,
00:59for non-alcoholic drinks in Italy and Bulgaria for tobacco.
01:03When looking at specific products, Denmark was the most expensive country for bread and cereals and for fish,
01:09while Luxembourg was the most expensive for meat and Cyprus for dairy products.
01:13On the other hand, the lowest price level for dairy products was in Slovakia,
01:18while the lowest for fish was in Romania.
01:20Price differences have decreased for food and non-alcoholic drinks,
01:24while in the last years, price differences have increased for alcoholic drinks and tobacco.
