Jobstreet by SEEK Malaysia held its second SEEK People & Purpose Awards to celebrate passionate and purpose-driven excellence in human resources amongst organisations in Malaysia.

The awards honour both organisations and individuals committed to purpose-driven accomplishments – making a meaningful impact on employees, communities and society, while inspiring and motivating the HR community towards positive change.

00:00Seek People and Purpose Award
00:15So the Seek People and Purpose Award, what inspired us to organise this event?
00:20This is the second year that we're doing this.
00:22If you look at the name of the event, the Seek People as well as Purpose.
00:27On the purpose side, what we intend to achieve is to celebrate employers out there
00:32who champion workplace values, who champion authentic employer branding
00:37as well as purpose-led leadership.
00:40And by doing so, employees will feel a lot more motivated,
00:44they feel valued and they feel inspired.
00:46So we did this to recognise purpose-led leaders in the organisation.
00:51Now, a purpose is only meaningful when we've got the right people
00:55to deliver and design on that purpose.
00:57So what we have done here as well is to celebrate HR practitioners out there
01:02who are passionate in building the workplace for the future,
01:06in shaping the businesses of the future.
01:08So if you look at the categories that we have, we have three in total.
01:15The first one is Top Voted Employers.
01:17And this is what we are trying to recognise as best employers for every sector.
01:22And the scoring is based on Malaysians who are working and their top biggest best employer.
01:29So that's the first one.
01:30The second award that we have is the SEEK People and Purpose Recognition Award.
01:36So what it does is, it looks at employers out there who have posted an ad with us
01:41and has garnered the highest number of candidate engagement.
01:44And this is then voted by, technically, candidates from Job Street by SEEK.
01:48The third category is a submission-based.
01:51And for us, what we are trying to do is identify HR practitioners or employers out there
01:58who embrace workplace values.
02:01The scoring of that is judged by 16 esteemed senior HR leaders across the industry.
02:08And how does this then tie in with six values?
02:11For us, we are big on ensuring that when you hire somebody, it's not just based on salary.
02:17We hire somebody to build a workplace for the future.
02:20The success of a company is not just based on the business ambition.
02:24It's also based on what kind of culture we have built,
02:27what kind of culture they have built and they have advertised for themselves.
02:30And things like employer branding, for example.
02:33So what we are trying to do is identify and recognise employees out there
02:37who are investing for the future, building their employer brand,
02:41and as well as shaping the future of workforce.
02:43We have been embarking on the AI journey for many years now.
02:52And what we do out of this is to one, drive efficiency.
02:55Second, remove biasness.
02:57And by doing so, AI has enabled a lot more fair hiring practices
03:01and encourage a lot more diversity and inclusiveness in the HR network.
03:05Now, what AI does is it helps with efficiency, but it doesn't replace human decision making.
03:12And it's important that we train our HR practitioners out there
03:16to know how to use AI to their best abilities.
03:19AI is only as good as how you know how to prompt it.
03:22And the future of talent acquisition is going to be focused less on administrative tasks,
03:28but more on human connections to facilitate better decision making.
03:37About two years ago, we decided to unify our platforms.
03:40So what that means is across the eight geographies that we operate in,
03:43we all use a single platform.
03:45Now, what that has unlocked is instead of doing a product release three times
03:49because we have three brands under the seek umbrella.
03:52We do it one time now.
03:53So instead of releasing three products a year, we are now doing three products a month.
03:58That's the velocity of product releases that we are now unleashing.
04:01Now, what we're trying to solve for is how do we hire smarter and more efficiently in this process?
04:08That cuts across smarter search.
04:11How do we ensure that the right ads get surveys to the right candidates?
04:15Vice versa.
04:16We're going to do a lot more on AI to ensure that we make this process a lot more efficient
04:21and remove bias or preference hiring as much as possible.
04:26Ever since we unified our platforms, we have integrated more than 200 data scientists across our region
04:32to ensure that we build a more efficient platform and promote fair hiring practices.
04:38For us at SEEK, what we have invested in is understanding how candidates and their preferences are evolving with time.
04:51So we've released what we call a talent attraction lab covering 33,000 candidates across APEC.
04:57And what that enables our employers to do is identify ways to retain a talent beyond salary.
05:06So salary is still the biggest. It's still the biggest driver of most candidates today.
05:10But once upon a time that gap versus the next biggest driver was a lot bigger.
05:16Right now what we are noticing is things like work-life balance, flexible working arrangements,
05:21career development opportunities have really risen in ranks and they are very much neck to neck with salary.
05:28And it's things like that that will help drive retention for our employees out there.
05:40This event has already grown from what it was last year.
05:43We've doubled the amount of submissions, we've increased the number of awards,
05:46we've even grown the number of participations.
05:48We want to be bolder and bigger next year
05:50to recognise HR practitioners ideally across the Malaysian footprint or even bigger.
05:54Maybe Southeast Asia? That is the plan.
05:57And the idea is to go bigger and bolder.
