00:00Spin Master decides to take the Man of Steel for a spin.
00:03Here's your look at the brand new Superman movie.
00:05This is the Build-A-Superman-Robot Superman.
00:21Unleash the power of your favorite characters from the Superman movie with this 6-inch action
00:26figure line, where bold heroism meets epic play.
00:30Crafted with authentic Superman movie styling, these figures capture the essence of the iconic
00:34superheroes and supervillains, ready to take on any challenge.
00:37Now, though, before we start building ourselves a bot, we take the tape measure and we see
00:41how tall the Superman figures are, this time from Spin Master.
00:44I know we've spent so much time on this channel as of late looking at the stuff the offerings
00:48from McFarlane Toys.
00:49Let's just see how the movie toy tie-in figures look from the folks over at Spin Master, taking,
00:54of course, the tape measure right to the very top of his head.
00:56He's not going to stand the same size, guarantee.
00:58He's going to be a little bit smaller.
00:59This, though, Superman is going to stand at 6 inches in height, or about 15 centimeters
01:03tall.
01:04I know it's not really fair to bring this one in, but just to show you guys what the
01:07two Superman look like from two different companies.
01:10Obviously, the Spin Master Superman is a little bit shorter.
01:12He goes only maybe to about the Superman crest on McFarlane's release.
01:16Now, in order to build the Superman robot, you need to collect six figures.
01:19We're looking first at Superman.
01:21Obviously, also, it works as well, too, that the Superman figure is going to come and clue
01:24with the robot's body, and it will kind of just snap on the parts to that.
01:28The other figures from this line will be Mr. Terrific, Green Lantern, Guy Gardner, Metamorpho,
01:32Hawkgirl, and the Engineer.
01:34I think, in fact, actually, Spin Master has beaten McFarlane Toys to the punchline.
01:38They've already done an Engineer.
01:40We still don't have one from the DC Multiverse release.
01:42Let's go look at the body here.
01:44It doesn't roll away on me.
01:45This is the body that we get from the Superman robot.
01:47I think maybe when we eventually build this all together.
01:50I'm not going to do it just yet, but I'll bring in the Superman robot that we've also
01:53gotten from Todd and his team.
01:55There's not really much in the way of posability that I can see, at least.
01:58It doesn't look like the head moves up and down or anything like that.
02:00This is, again, Robot 4.
02:02Still, we get Robot 4.
02:03What's happened at Robot 12?
02:04Of course, the lower half of the body is going to come and clue with Hawkgirl.
02:08Either one of the arms are going to be from Mr. Terrific and the Green Lantern, and then
02:12the lower legs are going to be from Metamorpho and the Engineer.
02:14And then, of course, we have ourselves a finely finished figure.
02:17So they probably could have easily also done five figures instead of the six.
02:21But with the length of the robot likely being the same torso-wise as Superman, it probably
02:25makes the most sense that they would have had the abdomen as a separate piece.
02:28By the way, it does have a real fabric cape.
02:30This is also something, too.
02:31Like, this Superman has, as well, a real fabric cape.
02:33So it's nice to see that.
02:35In fact, actually, the fabric cape, for the most part, looks pretty good.
02:38If you were to compare this with some of the earlier offerings from Spin Master, a lot of
02:41days back in the day, they would have done more of a plastic cape.
02:44The only thing I don't really love is the fact that they attach the cape the way that
02:47they do.
02:48I mean, there's clearly a part here where the front of his torso is suggested cape, only
02:53molding it in plastic.
02:54Well, then the real fabric cape is actually rooted on the back of his body.
02:58It loses some of the illusion.
03:00But considering, though, that this figure is usually selling for around $15, the McFarlane
03:04stuff is closer more to around $35.
03:06So it's a $25 difference.
03:08I think it's certainly an entryway into a kid's toy line.
03:11And the Spin Master one, probably the better offering, just because, again, it's a cheap
03:14figure, one that if you find, luckily, on shelves, which I was having a hard time to
03:18find these in stores, these would be ideal to give to a kid.
03:21Because, again, if they're going to be roughhousing with these and being rough with them, you're
03:24not likely as worried about these potentially break-ins.
03:27Maybe a figure like, even like the Director's Cut, theatrical edition, Superman, which was
03:32more close to around $45.
03:34Other head sculpts, I guess, while we're really holding the two.
03:36I mean, obviously, there's a lot more sculpt that went into McFarlane's release.
03:40But you know what?
03:41I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Spin Master isn't bad at all.
03:44I mean, it doesn't look as much like David, but I think it's still close enough for being
03:48a retail-release kid's toy line.
03:51One thing, unfortunately, though, is that they've spent a lot of time to paint the face.
03:54They didn't spend nearly as much time to paint the neck.
03:56So there's two color differences there.
03:58It's pretty close, though.
03:59But I mean, obviously, it looks like his neck is a little dirtier.
04:02I like the coloring that they've used for this torso and really for the rest of the
04:05blue.
04:06It's a little bit darker, again, to bring back in McFarlane's release.
04:09It's a much richer-looking blue.
04:10And I feel like, actually, this blue might even be closer to the film than what we got
04:13from the DC Multiverse.
04:15The emblem is nicely sculpted there as well.
04:17It's raised.
04:18They can just simply label that on.
04:20And again, while he does have the panel line, I don't love the panel line myself.
04:23It's faint enough.
04:24It's subtle enough that it doesn't look like it just takes over the figure sculpting.
04:28The lower trunks down below, again, those are nicely done.
04:31While this looks like it's a different red altogether than the tops of his legs,
04:34color matching seems to be a bit of an issue when it comes to what we're getting from Spin
04:38Master.
04:39But I think, again, you kind of have to look at this line as a whole and realize mass retail
04:44release figures.
04:45The price point's pretty low on them anyways.
04:48I think you're getting still pretty decent-looking figures.
04:50And again, you've got the pebbles and the palms of the feet.
04:52The thing that really surprised me, honestly, the most is the amount of posability that this
04:55guy actually packs.
04:57Again, to go back to his head sculpt here, this Superman's going to have a ball joint.
05:00I say a ball joint, it's more sort of suggested a ball joint because you can certainly move
05:07the head back and forth.
05:08You really can't do all that much up and down.
05:10I mean, nor can you really move it back and forth.
05:12It's really just rotation back and forth.
05:14It might not even be a ball joint.
05:16I mean, with what little it actually moves, it could essentially just be a figure's head
05:20pegged on top of the neck.
05:22The arms rotate all the way around.
05:23This was the thing that really surprised me the most.
05:24I was really thinking and expecting the arms to only really do this and the legs to only do
05:28this, but then to go back and look at these, when the moment you get out of that packaging
05:33to realize that the figures actually possess a T-pose, that's pretty impressive.
05:37The figure does only have a single hinge in the elbow, but the elbow rotates back and forth.
05:42The hands don't rotate.
05:43They're one thing, unfortunately, that has to be sacrificed for it comes to the budget.
05:46But again, I don't mind.
05:47I don't mind that the figure doesn't have any swivels in his wrists.
05:50I mean, if that's one thing he has to do away with, if it means that his legs can do
05:53this, sort of like see our victories and just sort of take our losses.
05:57If we lose this, but we gain this, that's not a bad thing at all.
06:01The legs go forward.
06:02The legs go back.
06:03A little bit of a swivel at the top.
06:04Not much there.
06:05There's a single hinge on the knee, which struggles.
06:08I struggle to bend this knee.
06:10I don't know why.
06:10This knee is bending fine.
06:12This knee on the other knee is really tight to the point I almost feel like I'm going to
06:16break it.
06:17No leg articulation.
06:18There's not really much there that you can do.
06:20But at least what you can do is where that knee is bending, it does also rotate.
06:25So while you don't get anything down here, you get something at least up here.
06:28Yeah, it's a good looking figure.
06:30I mean, obviously, I say this a couple of times too.
06:32Like you really have to look at a figure and you have to approach it with how much this
06:35figure sells for on the shelves.
06:37Yeah, if you did want a better looking Superman with maybe a better looking sculpt, you could
06:41go the route of getting the one from McFarland Toys, where it does have the wire built into
06:45the cape.
06:45It does have maybe better sculpting, better articulation clearly.
06:49But, you know, for a figure that's selling for 14 here in Canada and for how much it
06:54actually is able to do, I think that's a marvelous feat on Spin Master's part because like so
07:00easily they could have just had swivels on the arms, you know, swivels on the legs and
07:03called it a day.
07:04But the fact that this Kal-El can do as much as he can, that's something quite rather
07:09interesting.
07:09You know, it does have a few little areas that unfortunately aren't perfect, like the
07:14way really the cape pegs on the torso.
07:16There's really no way around.
07:17If you lift this back, you kind of see where it's slotted on the back of his body.
07:21That's unfortunately a cost that had to be cut.
07:25And again, like some of the paint doesn't really quite match like to the tops of the
07:28legs and especially the neck.
07:29The neck is a little on the paler side.
07:31But you know, again, like for a budget-friendly Superman, one that, which by the way, so far
07:37is beating Todd to the punchline when it comes to figures.
07:40We've already gotten a Green Lantern.
07:41They've done a Green Lantern.
07:42They've done a Hawkgirl.
07:43They've done an engineer that all allow you to build a Superman robot.
07:47Up to this point, we are missing all those three figures when it comes to stuff from DC
07:51Multiverse.
07:51I know eventually we're going to still get it, but Spin Master beat McFarlane Toys to
07:55it.
07:55Look, I wasn't expecting a perfect looking Superman, but I wasn't expecting at all to
08:00get the amount of posability that this guy ended up having in his body.
08:03Yes, he doesn't have it in his waist and he doesn't have it in his hands.
08:07And I don't think those are either parts that need to have it in the first place.
08:10If a budget needs to be saved anywhere, Posability would be the best place to start looking.
08:14I don't want them to sacrifice a sculpting in favor of something that they can produce
08:18for a cheaper cost.
08:19The sculpt, I think for the most part is pretty good.
08:21And with this being a $15 figure, and I keep saying $15 figure, but you really have to
08:27again, look at the price of what these companies are producing and releasing these figures for.
08:31For a figure that I can give to my daughter, if she has any interest at all of playing with
08:34a Superman figure or a Superman figure that you can give to your kid and play with without
08:38any worry that if something breaks on it, you're not paying a $50 figure in order to
08:43do that.
08:43This figure for what it is, and again, what it is, it's delivering a pretty good looking
08:48likeness of the Man of Steel.
08:49It could have always been better, but really at the end of the day, you're getting a good
08:53looking Superman.
08:54And this is one of the cool things where we get a movie tie-in license that's being split
08:58between two companies.
08:59You can see what McFarlane Toys is doing with all of their release of the DC Multiverse,
09:03but then you can also see what Spin Master is doing too.
09:07Spin Master, I think, is approaching this line more with fun in mind.
09:10Todd is releasing her figures with the idea of catering to collectors.
09:14In the end though, Superman fans are benefiting from getting properties, getting the licensing
09:19done from two different companies.
09:21This one, again, we're going to be building the Superman robot, whereas we actually got
09:24a full-out Superman robot released by Todd McFarlane.
09:27This time, we get to have a little bit more fun.
09:29We get to build this guy from scratch.
09:31What do you guys, though, think of the Spin Master Superman?
09:33Let me know down below in the comment section.
09:34I think for, again, what he's offering, I think it's a pretty good price for a pretty good
09:38figure.
09:39Let me know whether you agree with that or disagree with that in the comments down below.
09:43So, if you guys did also enjoy this video, you can do it as solid and throw it a like.
09:46You guys want to stick around for more?
09:47So, I hope so.
09:49We are going to be, by the way, looking at a whole bunch of Spin Master Superman toys.
09:53Not only will we be building a Superman robot, but we're going to be also looking at some
09:57of the other offerings that they're planning for the Superman movie as well.
10:00So, hoping that you guys are going to be coming back for those videos.
10:02As always, thanks for watching.
10:03See you guys next time.
10:13See you guys next time.
