00:00So Montreal had two selections right in the middle of the first round.
00:04So the Islanders now, after the Dobson trade earlier this afternoon,
00:07have the first, 16th, and 17th for tonight.
00:11And obviously, Scotty, we've talked about this a little bit.
00:14You know what the talk is, is what they're trying to do,
00:18and that is to somehow maneuver themselves back into the top five
00:23to try to take Long Island's own James Higgins,
00:26who for a long time was the top prospect in this draft.
00:30And has slipped down a little bit, a couple spots.
00:33So if he is still there at four or five, I would think tonight, Scotty,
00:37when those picks come up, the Islanders will get on the phone
00:40with Utah or Nashville, respectively, at four and five,
00:44and they will try to offer up those two picks, 16 and 17,
00:49and probably something else to get themselves back up.
00:53Because they're taking this Schaefer with the first pick.
00:56That's kind of like a done deal at this point,
01:00that that's the guy that they're going to get.
01:01But the other thing, you know, the other thing makes no sense to me.
01:05I think that he's not worth two picks.
01:09Higgins is not worth the 16 and 17 pick in the draft.
01:13Now, one of them maybe, but both of them, and what?
01:17And something else, like what?
01:19Cash or a player for Higgins?
01:20For Higgins, you've got to be kidding me.
01:23Well, here's the thing, and I kind of brought this up today
01:27to some of the Islander, you know, all the Islander people
01:30that used to follow me from the podcast, and that is this.
01:33Are they jumping through too many hoops just to try to go up
01:38and get this kid?
01:38Like if James Higgins was from Minnesota, would they be working this hard
01:43to try to get back into the top five?
01:45It's a great story because, you know, the kid's from Long Island.
01:49I understand all that, and I think any team maybe would want to be
01:53in that position.
01:54But, you know, you can't give up more than it's worth to try and do it.
02:01So, look, you give up one of those picks, and now, look, remember this too.
02:04The Islanders have a bunch of first-rounders next year
02:07because of the Brock Nelson trade.
02:09So they have Colorado's first-rounder next year,
02:11their own first-rounder next year.
02:13Maybe it's one of the 16 and 17 and one of the ones next year.
02:17Who knows?
02:18But they're going to have to spend to move up there.
02:21You know, that's the thing.
02:22The team that's picking four or five.
02:25Utah is not giving up that pick.
02:27They already know who they want.
02:30They already made their mind up.
02:32Dropping 10-plus slots at that point to go down.
02:37So you have to make it worth your while for that team
02:39to be able to do that, which is a lot.
02:42Now, Brady Martin is the guy that they want from Sault Ste.
02:46Marie.
02:46They've already had all kinds of interviews with him and everything else.
02:50And then I think at five, that would be the one to go after
02:54because I think Utah has made their mind up.
02:56And then at six, most people think that's where he's landing with the Flyers.
03:00I've seen a lot of the draft Knicks who cover the NHL say that he wouldn't get past
03:08the Flyers at six.
03:10And you know this.
03:11The Flyers are not going to help the Islanders out and trade with them at the
03:15six spot.
03:16So if the Islanders do want to get him, they're probably going to have to get
03:19ahead of Philly because Philly's not going to go helping them out.
03:22And if he gets the six, that's too good of, you know, it's too good of value.
03:26Do the deal with Nashville at five and steal him there if that's what you want.
03:30But he's not worth two draft picks.
03:33Like, he's not.
03:35I think there's got to be a point where it's enough is enough in terms of what
03:39you're trying to give up to make this happen.
03:41Now, I don't have a problem with Dillon Dobson today and the return that they
03:45got because, honestly, he was asking for too much money.
03:48He's a good player, but nine and a half per year, and I know prices are rising in
03:53the NHL.
03:54Well, he's supposed to be this great power play guy.
03:56He scored two power play goals the last two years.
03:58Yeah.
03:59Like, calm down on that guy.
04:01He's not like, I can't believe they gave him nine and a half million per year for
04:06his productivity.
04:08I can't understand it whatsoever.
04:11So we'll come back.
04:12And look, I love this kid, Misa.
04:14I know the Islanders aren't taking him, but he has got just pure, raw, offensive
04:21skill scoring that the Islanders have been desperate for for 30 years.
04:27But this kid's can't miss this Schaefer.
04:30So they're taking him and the Sharks will end up with this.
04:32Well, you can't be down on him if everyone and their brother says he's the man.
04:36No, everyone says.
04:36You can't be a Debbie Downer on the kid from the jump when everyone says he can't miss.
04:43And then the other kid scores a lot of goals.
04:45Well, I think they're taking the kid Schaefer and I think they can do serious damage at
04:5016 and 17 and forget about the kid from Long Island.
