00:00Let's get straight to the Old Bailey now. The mother and the father of Daniel Andurin,
00:04or speaking at the Old Bailey.
00:07We carry that light with us, even in this dark time.
00:12We want to express our deepest thanks to the police, the prosecution team,
00:18and all those who work tirelessly to seek the truth.
00:22Your dedication has meant more than words can fully convey.
00:26To everyone who supported us through this ordeal,
00:32friends, family, our church, our workplaces, our children's schools, and even strangers,
00:40thank you. Your love and support has been a lifeline.
00:47We honour Daniel's memory, not in the shadow of this tragedy,
00:51but through the love and happiness that he brought to us and all those who knew him.
00:59That was the father there of murdered Daniel Andurin, 14 of course,
01:20killed by Marcus Monzo with a samurai sword in broad daylight on his way to school.
01:26Those are the words of his father, his amazing father, Dr. Ebenezer Andurin,
01:32who gave a short statement there.
01:35How do they find the humility to thank the police?
01:38They thanked their friends, they thanked family, they thanked their church,
01:44and even complete strangers who gave them comfort.
01:48He said, your words mean more than you'll ever know.
01:50And he said, we want to honour Daniel's memory, not in darkness, but in lightness.
01:58And with that, he simply turned on their heels and walked away.
02:02Always find such dignity, so, so moving.
02:05I really, really do.
02:07And we can cross now to Mark White.
02:08Mark White is joining us, our home and security editor, Mark White.
02:12Well, we waited a while for that press statement.
02:15It was short, to the point, but again, what incredible dignity displayed by a father
02:21who's been through such an unimaginable loss, Mark White.
02:24Yes, I mean, very, very composed, Dr. Ebenezer Andurin there,
02:30and his wife, Grace, beside him there.
02:32Not saying anything, but just standing beside her husband
02:36to offer that emotional support, as they spoke in very dignified terms
02:42about the loss, of course, of this young man
02:46that had the most incredible future ahead of him.
02:49A young man that could play the violin and that could play the piano,
02:53that was so academically bright.
02:57He was top of his class.
02:59And just apparently just the most incredible young man
03:04and to have had that life and that future snatched away from him
03:10in such a violent manner.
03:12As Ebenezer Andurin said in his victim impact statement,
03:18they'd been denied the opportunity to see the most incredible young man
03:23that Daniel would have become.
03:26They will never be able to see him marry or to have children.
03:31And, of course, as absolutely profound as their grief is,
03:37you've got to remember the other people caught up
03:40in this horrific event that day as well, Martin.
03:44The five other people who were injured,
03:46some of them very severely, by Marcus Monzo,
03:51who set about them with that samurai sword.
03:55And the victim impact statements we heard from them
03:58talking about how they will live with this,
04:01how they are very concerned.
04:03One of them, the police officer,
04:06talking about how she was afraid to go out alone.
04:10She feared being attacked
04:12and wouldn't be able to defend herself.
04:14You'll never fight herself to K-sort our stop or to be on the other side.
