Transcript
00:00I'm now happy to yield three minutes to the distinguished gentleman from California,
00:06Representative Correa.
00:07The gentleman from California is recognized.
00:09Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
00:11I ask, what happened?
00:13My hometown, Santa Ana, California, predominantly Hispanic Latino.
00:19Factory workers live there.
00:21Remember, we're the biggest manufacturing state in the union.
00:25Near-shoring, guess where it's happening?
00:28We're just ag state in the union, a lot of farm workers in my district.
00:33What happened?
00:35One day, we're going about our business in Santa Ana, Orange County, masked federal agents
00:41start going into our neighborhoods, picking up hardworking neighbors.
00:47Oh, yeah, you bet.
00:49People were concerned, scared, and nervous, and a lot of people expressed their First Amendment
00:54right.
00:55We got the National Guard.
00:59Sheriff Don Barnes, Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes did not call for the National Guard.
01:07Local police chiefs did not call for the National Guard.
01:12We get the National Guard.
01:15You know, President Trump promised to deport criminals, those with deportation orders, those
01:21here less than two years.
01:24But now, it's hard workers, people that pay taxes, that are being picked up.
01:30Like 60% of those being picked up are now people without criminal records.
01:38We didn't have any violence.
01:40We had masked officers coming into our neighborhoods.
01:47And you know, I bet President Trump would want to know what's going on on Main Street.
01:53One of the constituents that just got picked up, I talked about a minute ago, Narciso Barranco,
02:0125 years in the US, a gardener, a father of three Marines.
02:08We make movies of people like this.
02:11This gentleman is a hero, his family's a hero.
02:14Instead, he's in a nice holding facility in Los Angeles.
02:19But I'm hearing, more stories coming, more Barranco-type families being broken up.
02:27Military families being separated by their loved ones by ICE.
02:32I do not believe President Trump would want his legacy to be that he deported military family
02:38members like Mr. Barranco.
02:42Look, common sense here.
02:46This resolution is not prime time for a vote.
02:50A lot of inaccuracies.
02:52I'm going to ask my colleagues to vote no on this measure.
02:55Mr. Chairman, Mr. Speaker, I yield.
02:58The gentleman from California.
