00:03People seeking weight loss medication on the NHS are being warned it is not yet available in Derbyshire

00:08and that only a very select group of patients will be eligible for treatment.

00:13This week, people living with obesity and significant health risks

00:17became eligible for the weight loss medication to Zepatide, known as Manjaro, on the NHS.

00:23However, prescriptions will not be obtainable in Derbyshire until later this year, officials say,

00:27and it will be phased in gradually.

00:30The Stewart Medical Centre in Buxton has issued a statement reading,

00:34We are noticing a surge in requests for weight loss medication following announcements in the media.

00:39Please can we ask patients not to contact their GP to enquire whether they are eligible,

00:44as these medications will not be available in Derby and Derbyshire until later in the year.

00:49In addition, once referral pathways in Derbyshire have been opened,

00:53there are strict eligibility criteria that we must stick to.

00:56Eligibility for referral will be opened in phases over the next three years.

01:02They also added that the number of patients eligible for referral in Phase 1 is expected to be very small.
