00:07fart is over we're gonna laugh about this like this is gonna be like our story like i could have
00:12that long of a thought and it was going this is the essence of i quit hi i'm danielle i'm alana
00:17and i'm sd and we are hiam and we're gonna be making you so many drinks today and talking about
00:23our album i quit
00:24i am gonna make a martini i sneakily put a martini glass in the freezer before we began i had a
00:42like people over i had like friends over at my house and i was like you guys i'm gonna make the
00:46martinis and there's nothing worse than like making drinks for people and they just stay on the table
00:52everyone had like one sip and they were like mmm it's super good it's the hardest drink to make
00:59fuck it okay here we go let's fucking go here we go i'm not gonna measure you're gonna eyeball it i'm
01:04not even gonna look there we go i'm just gonna tell you that it's cold here we go i'm just gonna put a
01:09little dash boop that's it i'm gonna swirl it around okay i'm gonna dump it out nice now i'm
01:16gonna put the three gallons of vodka that is in this shaker okay you guys might be in the splash zone
01:21okay nice shake it uh-oh you've got you've got it yeah yeah yeah yeah get a little close-up of that
01:27guy right here okay i put way too much vodka in here we make a twist essence swirl it oh i kind of
01:37that's we can edit that out right drop it drop it
01:40try it taste it that is vodka that's vodka i'm gonna make a slightly dirty vodka martini oh slightly
01:52dirty here we go vodka there you go oh you're measuring okay oh i like it slightly dirty so just
01:58like i do the same trick okay a little dash and swirl it okay yeah yep and pour nice and then get
02:11some olives in there there you go cheers perfect i am making a vodka soda i'm a simple girl vodka i have
02:21been known to do a heavy pour i know what the people want i do like a row row row your boat gently down
02:28the stream oh merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream that's how i measure that's gorgeous
02:34i worked in restaurants they can attest to this it's true life you did and the bartenders were always so
02:40cool they would be talking to people yeah and they weren't even they would just be like yeah and then
02:44yeah i'm going after what are we doing oh wait i need a line there we go and then i and then i put
02:51it on cheers y'all cheers cheers cheers i quit we are two days away from the album coming out i quit
03:03how does it feel this one i think is so special because we like get that energy of we're putting
03:09out i quit we're going on tour in the fall like we know we're going to be on the road it's going to be
03:13great let's just get out of the way right like what are we quitting the overarching theme was
03:18quitting overthinking on this album making albums is a very daunting experience at least for us
03:24i mean we obviously love playing live we've been playing live as you know siblings as haim since 2007
03:32that's like our comfort zone it's like being on stage playing we really wanted this album to feel
03:38free-spirited yeah and loose yeah loose yes or we just my martini is so strong it's kicking in we
03:50always start just the three of us throwing spaghetti at the wall for a couple months and treating song
03:56writing like it's a job like a nine to five how did you guys come up with a title we had no other
04:00ideas it was always called i quit we had been obsessed with this movie growing up called that thing you do and
04:07at the end you've seen this i know i saw the video of you guys doing jimmy's quote i i quit
04:18i quit mr white we want something peppy something snappy yes um and that was like a family uh inside
04:26joke of ours and we would always say i mean when we were like young like when we as i mean when did that
04:31movie come out we were so young when that movie came out when we were making the album we kind of for
04:36the time being named it i quit because we needed to like have a secret file name after a while like
04:41we just really realized that like it really did feel like the perfect title and it honestly made us
04:47laugh it made us laugh the promo cycle has been so fun each single you guys have been recreating iconic
04:53paparazzi shots yeah so is there anyone that you haven't been able to do yet that you wanted to do
04:57there's so many that we haven't been able to do yet we have like a whole file of potential potential
05:04photos i mean it's not a secret we love being funny we love making people laugh deal with it especially
05:12with the um nicole kim in photo whatever that photo was used for those photos i remember we were
05:18listening to relationships and every single emotion that she was evoking like matched a part of the song
05:25and we were like should we just recreate this there's like insane like funny videos we were
05:30just walking down the street going fuck fuck like that was the photo that you see was us saying
05:38fuck which ones did you want to do that you couldn't come up with there was some mary k and ashley
05:42ones that we didn't get to do yes that takes a lot of like like finding like the best clothes
05:48they are very styled you never know we might be able to pull it off one day we love but yeah we
05:54love we love relationships has been in the hymoverse for quite a long time why do you think um
06:01fans have gravitated so much towards the song
06:10we wrote that song a long long time ago we would show it to close friends or collaborators collaborators in
06:18the response it was kind of like indifferent and i think we always just knew like i think there's
06:22something really special about the song we just kind of kept it in our back pocket every like year
06:28or so we'd kind of bring it out and then it would just fall flat every time a year two years ago i just
06:35was like i need to bring that song back and worked on the drums and i think once we we sit like we figured
06:42out the drum part it kind of all fell into place this album while making it was the first
06:48time in heim history i believe but you guys were all single at the same time at the same time we've
06:52all been single at some point one of us or both about two of us the universe aligned yes yes we're
06:59all three of us were not tethered it was really fun we just did a lot of bar hopping in la running
07:06around together and danielle you moved in with alana briefly i'm not gonna lie the first two weeks
07:13were rough they were rough well not for me didn't you think it was only two weeks i i don't know how
07:20long it was gonna be the thing is is like my house uh open door policy for my house i was throwing
07:26fucking ragers since the day that i moved into my house and then danielle called me up one day and was
07:32like i guess i live with you now and i was like okay i think the thing that was so amazing about
07:39danielle moving in with me first of all she bought groceries so already already win for me
07:45because i stocked well she was like what are you what do you eat like i don't and it was literally
07:51just like it was like and also like the sauces were all expired like she's like do you need help
07:58and then she would open up the pantry and it would be like a really stale bag of doritos i'd be like
08:02don't throw that out yet it's good it's like joey tribiani script literally but it was really fun to
08:07kind of all be siblings together like again like we hadn't been single since i was 16 and i couldn't
08:13get into bars so like going out and partying with my siblings and being able to fit in one car and not
08:18have any plus ones it was great what kind of music were you guys listening to when you made this album
08:24you know there's a lot of ryle kylie yeah yeah generally was fans yes i mean she also taught us so much
08:29i was so lucky enough to go on tour with her animal collective animal collective and like
08:34modest mouse it's perfect timing too because ryle kylie is reunited i am so excited about it
08:42so excited we just saw videos i know that festival in la yeah yeah san luis obispo is really hard to
08:48get to but i did it you what yeah i had to wait was that the first show yeah oh that's how psychotic
08:55i was like a plane and cars yeah i was like i've been waiting for years same but it was just like
09:02it's my everything yeah you guys have sampled some of like amazing songs on this album gone has
09:08george michael's freedom 90. yes i think it's now it's time you sample u2's numb yeah how did that
09:14happen i just have always loved that song and rostam is a huge youtube yeah huge and also they it was
09:21like kind of like a nice full soul yeah you guys i am slurring some of that what did i put in this
09:27martini i'm gonna take one more sip and pretend like it's not just pure vodka you two uh actually
09:33took danielle's solo from my song five they contacted us because they used a guitar lick which
09:40also was like so crazy because like edge was playing the riff that i wrote and i remember when danielle
09:48wrote that riff like if i could like paint i can't but if i could paint i could paint it like
09:54meticulously like i remember where we were when you were playing you're like is this good and i was
10:00taking a nap and i will never forget i woke up and i was like that's really good and now edge is playing
10:05it edge was playing it and then they use it as melody for the verse of the song well if that doesn't
10:09prove to like gross men that you're not playing instruments just like know that oh yeah just like
10:14playing yeah you wrote you said it you said it babe esti i love crying thank you is that the first
10:20time you sang lead vocal on it this is your first song that's yours this is my first time singing the
10:26whole song with cry i think yeah i think i came in probably crying and you did i remember the day i
10:32came in crying out of all three siblings i cried i cried at primavera i i cried on stage because
10:38the the people of porto were singing with me and i lost it my favorite song on the album is all over me
10:53tell me about writing that one because it's the best like track two you know what i mean like
10:57thank you thank you so much to me i'm very big on placement so are we thank you you're crazy about
11:02placement so are we it's so much important that started in on that's one of these garage band days
11:08i had like my little keyboard and it was just like it felt like just the stomper and then it was the
11:23bass boom boom it was one of those moments where it's like already felt good with just those elements
11:29and i think you know that's always when we're like hey we could just listen to this and it's like just
11:34basing like kicking a snare the drums we just wanted it to really groove and i played drums on i played
11:39drums on the whole album daniel always played drums on always playing drums if daniel can marry an
11:45instrument it would be the bedroom yeah that was my favorite honestly it we write songs
11:50basically we always start first and bpm and literally i'll be like wait okay let's make it
11:55130 it's 131 right now can we do 131.5 i just remember we're just like i love me and and that's
12:02another thing is when we write and like the the like lyric comes kind of in the same moment that the melody
12:09does which happens not so often that's also like a little sign from us we're like wait we're on to
12:16something we're on to something here we were all having one night stands it was great being able
12:22to come to the studio and be like what did you do last night it was a lot of like this like oh god
12:28like we got very close on this album also rostam heard a lot of funny stories thank you rostam thank
12:36you rostam you guys have been open on tiktok about like bad dates like what's whoever can take this one
12:41what's like the the funniest example of like a truly like shitty bad date are you ready yeah i'm
12:47ready i will tell you the craziest story i was dating this comedian for i was saying they already
12:55know where i'm going i was dating this comedian for like a month i was like this is not gonna last but
13:01like i'm having a good time so like let's see where this goes one night it was like the night that like
13:05i slept over for the first time like you've crossed that threshold and we like woke up in the morning
13:10and i looked at him maybe it was the light i don't know like he was like looking really good and i was
13:15like maybe i should make this like a serious thing he's like do you want to walk and get coffee and i was
13:21like ah delightful let's walk and get coffee oh my god we were on our way you know walking to coffee
13:30having that that kind of talk they're like we're getting to know each other
13:33the leaves are falling it's fall like this is beautiful this is my guy like this is my guy like
13:40i i think i was too hasty i think i'm gonna make this a serious thing and i was in the middle of a
13:46sentence like fully you know telling telling the story and he let out the craziest fart i have ever
13:53heard in my life you can laugh it was so long that i could have the thought like when this fart is over
14:02we're gonna laugh about this like this is gonna be like our story like i could have that long of a
14:07thought and it was going and the fart finally ends and i'm thinking he's gonna say oh my god i'm so
14:14sorry he does not acknowledge the fart because let it out i'm not saying don't fart better out than in
14:22like not acknowledging obviously with this fart he needed to let it out okay it's the fact that he didn't
14:27acknowledge that that was maybe the funniest part i've ever heard in my life that i was like
14:32we are never gonna work yeah like this is where i draw the line here like you need to acknowledge
14:37how funny that fart was and he was a comedian i'm like this is like low-hanging fruit a giant red
14:43flag we never spoke ever again he knows who he is you know you know you know everyone was laughing
14:49by the way i'm like i want everybody at home to know that the crowd was going the room was lit up this
14:54is the essence of i quit yeah i'm just like so psyched for the tour yeah have you guys been like
14:59talking about how you want to do it tour planning always it starts even like when we're in the studio
15:04i mean we always like to switch it up on tour and you know uh add different arrangements i love touring
15:10no you love touring i love to danielle loves the studio danielle cooks in the studio touring and putting
15:17together a show and switching things up constantly it's like that's what gives us so much excitement and
15:22this one's gonna be just as fun stevie nix recently said in an interview that you guys are working on
15:28a song together can you tell us anything about it that sentence that we even know stevie is like a
15:33crazy thing yeah in our lives because i remember the first time i met her she was such a fan of our
15:39song called go slow she played it on a speaker i mean it's no secret that we love fleetwood mac we love
15:46stevie so much and that i think when i'm like in a rocking chair in my old age like that memory will
15:54constantly be playing over and over and over again because she's one of the most amazing musicians
16:02the most insane songwriters and the fact that she even knew a song like that we had written called go
16:09slow we were like what there's a lot of things to come that we're very excited about one of the
16:15reasons why i think we got up on stage when we were you know younger you know just watching the dance
16:21you know and seeing her on that stage gave us you know the confidence you know we just are we studied
16:33her i will say she did give us a shawl yeah and i that is framed that is framed no one is touching
16:40that shawl that is a blessed shawl she's always there for us which is also such a crazy thing to
16:46say steven's is always there for me i know so my final question days are gone recently turned 10. yes
16:53um how do you guys look back on that era and like if you could tell like young danielle young alana young
16:59um no i think that anniversary was extremely special to us because i think when you're
17:11making an album especially if i think about you know younger alana sc and danielle making an album
17:15we had no idea what we were doing we were i mean to quote buzz lightyear falling with style
17:21you know i think we were just learning on the job how to record an album we didn't really know
17:30what we were doing every venue would be like we'd be like can we please play and they'd be like do
17:35you have any music and we'd be like no but i swear all the time in our living room we're good
17:41live show we can play for you live but we could not get a recording and so yeah as danielle said there
17:46were these like valley studios that were like closing but they were still extremely expensive and we would
17:51save up all of our money all year go into a studio for like one day and we would be like we're gonna
17:57record i mean i don't even remember ten songs five songs ten songs like we'd rehearse in our living
18:03room for months when we get into that studio we're gonna we're gonna be ready ready um and no one told
18:09us that like mic placement was a thing engineers i didn't know we thought we just went in there and
18:15it's just gonna sound like it does in our living room it was a lot of trial and error and i think
18:20also when you make albums you're like am i gonna cringe in like 10 years and i think the thing
18:26that's so amazing about days are gone especially at the anniversary is holding that album even like
18:31the album cover like we shot that in our backyard with a like a disposable camera but holding that
18:39album like the joy of listening to it and holding it and not cringing and being like we little us like
18:48really put our heart and souls in this and i love every single part even back then we stuck to our guns
18:56like there was a lot of opinions especially first album there were so many fucking opinions that were
19:01like you should do this and this and this and we knew exactly what we wanted that album to sound like
19:07and i think the reason why i can hold it and love it is because i know it was so purely us and in 10
19:14years we'll come back here yeah yeah let's come to this bar i quit 10 year anniversary
19:25i can now like mimic what the fart sounded like but it was like
19:29like like like it was so fucking long it felt purposeful
