00:00the head-to-head maybe two-player race already here before we get to the month of july
00:04for the american league mvp award and from when donnie and i had this discussion just two days
00:10ago the odds continuing to move in the gap that aaron judge once had to win his third al mvp
00:18award in the last four years again starting to dwindle when you compare it to the number on big
00:24dumper of course that is cal raleigh out there in seattle neither guy has hit a home run since we
00:31last discussed these odds cal raleigh still leading all of major league baseball with 32 but you know
00:37just a couple of weeks ago aaron judge was minus 20 000 to win the american league mvp honor for a
00:44third time in four years that number still strong minus money but nine but minus 950 what do you make
00:51of this potentially two-player race to win that al mvp hardware uh when we sat here you know what
00:59we call it 26 short days ago uh as we hit june 1st uh i wouldn't have thought that there was another
01:06player on the planet who could have taken the mvp award away from aaron judge well a very human 265
01:12batting average in the month of june with just seven home runs uh watching his team plummet and not being
01:18able to score certainly is the reason why cal raleigh who deserves all the credit in the world
01:23for the surge that he's put together in the month of june uh why we now have a two-man race that aaron
01:28judge is going to have to try and win back now look i don't think that for all of the bluster that
01:34cal raleigh has bought that when we put together the rest of this 162 game sample size that he's going
01:39to end up overtaking aaron judge because aaron judge will actually start to you know put judge like
01:44numbers up again i mean you saw the 364 batting average after 265 that was down from 415 which he
01:50was batting by the end of may right i mean so those numbers were going to be really hard for judge to
01:56sustain over 162 games because it's hard to hit 400 it's incredibly hard to hit 400 that said i still
02:03think judge has a lot more good baseball left in him and a lot more home runs that he's going to hit
02:07and so when you look at these two guys side by side i think there's more pressure on raleigh to be
02:12able to keep this up as a relatively unknown commodity against the monster and the aura that
02:16is aaron judge than necessarily the other way around judge is going to continue to hit and continue
02:20to put up eye-popping numbers and unfortunately and drs will agree with me here some of this is
02:25going to boil down to where their team finishes if seattle fades and cal raleigh ends up missing the
02:30postseason some idiotic voters are going to hold that against him whereas if aaron judge wins the
02:34the american league east and they they have the number one seed some voters are going to give him a plus for
02:38that that's stupid it's not the way the vote's supposed to be it's an individual award doesn't
02:43matter what their team does but nonetheless that's going to happen so it's going to be a fun race to
02:47watch down the rest of the stretch
