00:00:11come together at the right time i think we've gotten the right time to do it because it is
00:00:14just a fun topic and also people are talking about movies a lot now um there's good movies out but
00:00:19also the new york times thing people are doing putting their top 10 movies of the uh 2000s which
00:00:24is cool so i figured i'd have a chance to talk about it uh we will have che here and also we have
00:00:30uh gooch obviously joining in for some movie knowledge uh clem and tommy smokes so it should
00:00:35be i think a fun time you guys ready for those of you that are going uh to go to the dozen tournament
00:00:39in boston ready to win i think clem's the only one in it i think i'm doing the halftime show but isn't
00:00:47clem's the only one yeah you are holy shit you are yeah i completely forgot i thought tommy was
00:00:54i thought you guys i know you guys lost uh kb but i thought the kb or or um you made it tommy

00:01:21don't know there are even blockbusters anymore summer yeah just summer yeah pretty much uh
00:01:28whenever the first marvel movie comes out that feels like now that's that's that's when it kicks
00:01:33off yeah i think july 11th superman that's right yeah the uh you know what's funny about blockbusters
00:01:39too this is such a cool thing like they were basically invented by jaws like people did not
00:01:43go to the movie theaters during the summer at all so everyone like not right now the way it works is
00:01:48like everyone dumps their worst movies in the beginning of the year when it's winter and then
00:01:52they save all the good ones for blockbuster season during the summer but the way it used to be it was
00:01:56the opposite because no one they're like no one's gonna wear out when it's nice out no one wants to
00:01:59go to a theater they all want to go outside they want to do things and jaws came out in the summer
00:02:03and it literally shut down beaches because people wouldn't no one wanted to go
00:02:07and like people it became now summer blockbusters became a thing after jaws that's like the one of
00:02:12the biggest legacies of that movie which i think is hot in the summer sitting ac for a few hours
00:02:18exactly oh yeah very very nice and i apologize if i have to turn and cough for a bit i've been
00:02:23fucking i don't know what it is every time i go to chicago and i come back i'm just sick it's just
00:02:26the weather change maybe but it was really hot as shit honestly in chicago while we were there so
00:02:32i'm not sure um but before we get to the bracket let's talk about game time there's nothing like

00:03:35announced mets phillies like so that's just kind of what happens big stuff happens in the middle east

00:03:43cena to come out and tell you that the osama bin laden was compromised to a permanent end i believe
00:03:48was his exact verbiage right oh yeah so maybe next time you could be at a use game time to get

00:04:53should have some could i have submitted jaws i just thought about that as you talked about jaws
00:04:56before the the shark shark fuck it for an angle he's kind of the star of the show and kind of makes
00:05:03the hero to the oceans yes exactly think about it what life matter on earth is more poisonous to
00:05:10the earth than human beings he's just trying to fucking even the odds a little bit here yeah he's
00:05:14like his own little thanos basically but anyone like i did i didn't say superpowers but i did say
00:05:19seuss but i do think it's important to like not have any superpowers if we can if we can avoid it
00:05:23um so our first matchup of the day is the number 12 seed versus the five seed the five seed i would
00:05:29imagine possibly clem's number one seed personally you know that i'm thinking of that guy motherfucking
00:05:38that's number one guy period like real fake whatever you want to call it he's a five john
00:05:43mcclain of the die hard series uh john mcclain um and let's i think if i had to imagine kb you seen
00:05:51die hard no or tommy have not seen i have i have not either this is good though i think this is a good

00:06:37mcclain on what he is as an action hero yeah so basically it's like back in the day in the 80s
00:06:41it was like schwarzenegger saloney and he's broided out fucking monsters who go and save the day if you
00:06:45seen it seen rambo or terminator which i'm not even gonna say is definite if you haven't seen die
00:06:50hard however john mcclain comes out bruce willis and at that point he was like kind of budding as like a tv
00:06:56star is i think i'm moonlighting right ken jack yep and he was kind of like the everyman the common
00:07:00man if you may be able to barstoolize it and so he's just a cop he's just happens to end up in this
00:07:06like i won't give away the ending or anything but he ends up in this building with a bunch of terrorists
00:07:10and they're taking hostages and he basically is just on his own has his like his like one little gun
00:07:16and doesn't have shoes on as we find out which isn't a great thing and he has to take down like a
00:07:20dozen hostage a dozen terrorists essentially so it's uh it's a real fucking and then
00:07:25he then spawned like die hard on a bus with speed and die hard on a boat was uh what was that
00:07:32which one was that one speed two speed two cruise control yeah exactly so that's kind of the synopsis
00:07:39and he's just the greatest action hero and hero and probably movie character of all time big time
00:07:44like straight so he doesn't wear shoes and he was responsible for the movie speed two
00:07:48yes ldr i don't know if i like this guy he he's a former cop that has to adapt and overcome in la
00:07:57and like take down a bunch of terrorists all by himself he's cool he's cool as shit and he's an
00:08:01i might watch it like tonight or this week i should watch yeah it isn't it's an all-timer and i would say
00:08:08me and clem because uh we both got back from the hotel and i immediately texted him when i found out
00:08:12that die hard was on tv and i was like oh clem's gonna be thrilled because once you get a good hotel
00:08:16movie on it's amazing but unfortunately it was right at the end and die hard 2 was about to come
00:08:20on which is horrible terrible movie but then die hard 3 not bad totally redeems itself and die hard
00:08:272's faults are not john mcclain's faults let's make that clear it's just like the writing and the whole
00:08:31story is just silly so john mcclain is going up against the number 12c one of our female heroines
00:08:38on this list which is the bride from kill bill this one might be one that's a tough one uh might be
00:08:45kind of similar to john mcclain and i don't know if you guys would have watched pill bill tarantino
00:08:48movie but the bride is extremely the bride is yeah uma thurman extremely cool just fucking doing the
00:08:55thing getting out of the grave uh slicing up lucy lou with fucking samurai sores beating beating the shit
00:09:01out of uh her adversaries in the middle of a kitchen like it's she's a really cool badass a kind of mixture
00:09:06of like a samurai and also like an old west hero uh while just like going through and killing everyone
00:09:11that ever uh crossed her basically what's the thing she does the five uh the punch oh the five
00:09:20the five finger death punch something like that yeah it's a very tarantino-ish thing so for you guys
00:09:27that haven't seen it that's this is that's like you're basically the value proposition for you so
00:09:30this woman that's going around uh just like place to place killing all these people that wronged her
00:09:36with swords fucking knives nunchucks all this weird shit uh versus john mcclain who is foiling
00:09:41i think they were east german terrorists including uh the actor that played snape is the main bad guy
00:09:46alan rickman in the first one okay did she wear shoes probably not right did wear shoes she mostly
00:09:52wore shoes i gotta say and she let her wear some shoes actually yeah that's a good point
00:09:58there are some very lingering shots on those toes i mean there is a full five minute sequence her toes
00:10:05make a make an appearance they you could say they're they're very inter they're integral to the plot
00:10:11oh my god she cannot she cannot start her quest for vengeance until she wiggles her big toe
00:10:16uh that is it it's a it's a direct plot point man yeah tarantino i can't tell if he would have
00:10:23loved or hated die hard i don't know how he feels about men's feet but i would assume maybe probably not
00:10:27great for him uh so the bride versus john mcclain let's just start with uh let's start with you
00:10:32clem i mean just it's mcclain just pencil you know when you get your bracket and you just go like i'm
00:10:38taking you and see to win it all you just pen him in just pen me and mcclain every single round that
00:10:42he's alive for hopefully it's still the end yeah i don't know i was like i don't know if i have to
00:10:46ask clem but i'll just make sure uh robbie uh this is tough i would say the bride umma thurman really
00:10:53gave i would say women of our generation like an action hero for their own but john mcclain let me
00:10:59tell you he did a lot for just like the average looking dude like obviously bruce willis got more
00:11:04jacked and probably better looking as the crew as as his career went along but at that point like
00:11:09clem said everyone looked like an action figure it was stallone it was swartzenegger and then you got
00:11:14this guy who wears a wife beater and has a terrible receding hairline is terrible at his job has a
00:11:20failed marriage and you're just like fuck yeah this guy this guy's gonna save the day so
00:11:24i'm gonna roll with clem here i think it's i think it's mcclain two for mcclain tommy smokes what do you
00:11:30think uh i'm gonna go with mcclain i haven't seen die hard i've seen kill bill i didn't love it um
00:11:36too much blood too much gore for the just just for the sake of it let's see um and i'm just gonna go
00:11:42with the man over the woman here i'm gonna stick with my gender and vote for john mcclain
00:11:47three for john mcclain kb um i need more on mcclain was he funny what was his personality like
00:11:55he had a lot of good one-liners man i'll tell you what he had nothing but one-liners
00:11:59witty as fuck i think would be the kids would say about him he like a motherfucker that's one of
00:12:05his a lot of catchphrases to you because oh that's funny i guess yeah welcome to the party pal

00:12:37mcclain another one for mcclain jay i'm going uma uh kill bill was an awesome movie i'm sure die
00:12:44hard was a great movie too but i was 11 years old going to a birthday party and that birthday party was
00:12:52to see the movie speed 2 and there were a lot of disappointed uh kids after that movie so uh i'm
00:13:01not gonna be voting for the man that made that happen fucking uh was it jason patrick in speed 2
00:13:06like it was i didn't see it i mean i don't blame shay i heard the reviews probably shay told me
00:13:11through fucking the grapevine that it was terrible 11 year olds so that means that john mcclain of
00:13:17die hard will move on now we have the four seed versus the 13 see the four seed a classic absolutely
00:13:22classic action hero smooth sexy badass in the right moments james bond and you can take your pick i think
00:13:30that's kind of the cool thing about this the the idea of james bond is you can pick whichever one you
00:13:33want as like your go-to it doesn't need to be connery it doesn't need to be uh uh you know
00:13:40daniel craig or pierce brosnan or timothy doll it can be anyone you want so james bond smooth sexy cool
00:13:46going up as number 13 seed this is a very late one but someone mentioned it i do feel like he needed
00:13:50some sort of representation here um and here's where it's weird with action heroes because some of
00:13:54them you maybe don't necessarily remember their names but you know who they are if that makes sense i think
00:14:00if you have the name value it's way more important but that's why that kind of brings the seating down
00:14:03a little bit here uh rick o'connell who maybe doesn't totally register immediately but rick
00:14:09o'connell is brendan fraser in the mummy who is very cool very badass very like and smooth talking
00:14:15he's got these did the whole these are the whole shebang he uh you know uh his opening is him in like
00:14:20an algerian prison uh it's kind of smooth talking his way out to rachel vice and it's he's got the
00:14:26goods man and he was hot as fuck then super super hot back then and uh so james bond versus rick o'connell
00:14:34starting with you jay so this is uh what like 25 years before he is uh just a giant man who doesn't
00:14:43leave his apartment and is just jacking it to to gay porn to porn when uh jehovah's witnesses come to the
00:14:51um i don't love the bond series i feel like i should it's uh a lot of it is in casinos uh he's
00:15:01always doing the right thing he's being very cool the bond ladies are super hot i don't know it just
00:15:07doesn't really jive with me i i never thought like sean connery was that cool or pierce bro i guess

00:20:52who you need to teach kind of he's kind of like a robotic casino man like you need to teach him how to be
00:20:56human uh for a to james connor and uh he's just cool as shit all he does is say catchphrases uh

00:21:08beats the shit out of people the opening sequence when you first see him really in the um the movie
00:21:13where like he has the gun the shot the coolest shotgun of all time hidden inside the rose thing

00:21:24everything he does is amazing even like the ending he dies he comes like like into the lava with
00:21:29thumbs up he's just the coolest guy and uh he's going up against ironically like we were just
00:21:33mentioning schwarzenegger uh going up against his fellow insanely jacked 80s uh guy who there's funny
00:21:40stories between the two of them uh and sylvester stallone in rambo so rambo is an interesting
00:21:46character as well because he's essentially just like a vietnam vet that kind of in the first movie it's
00:21:50like a very thoughtfully written kind of movie about like ptsd first blood like and then he just
00:21:55like yeah now he's gonna go help the mujahideen in afghanistan and like it's kind of devolves after
00:22:00that but uh we're gonna have terminator versus rambo and these guys would constantly by the way go back
00:22:06and forth trying to get roles from each other to the point where i believe and you i feel like you
00:22:11would know this gooch he still uh i believe schwarzenegger tricked him into taking a shitty role
00:22:17like my cop my my mom the cop or something like that do you remember talking about do not do not
00:22:23know about this but the idea of schwarzenegger and stallone those meatheads playing mind games with
00:22:28each other that's pretty funny i think he like pretended to have a huge interest in some movie
00:22:34where he where the main character is a cop alongside his elderly mother and he did it he faked out
00:22:40stallone and just taking the role in the movie bombed and like did terrible and then he revealed later
00:22:45like yeah i wasn't interested in that at all i just thought that if i showed a little that you
00:22:48would take it uh so terminator versus rambo start with you clem stop or my mom will shoot was that
00:22:55it uh yeah that sounds right that sounds right according to me how did sylvester stallone not
00:23:02like raise an eyebrow at the title of that i think he just already sounds like the worst movie of all time
00:23:08it's a great question i think he just saw stallone was interested and he was like i'm in
00:23:13uh so clem you're up first uh terminator versus rambo so i grew up when rambo was like getting
00:23:21pretty big um i probably like remember the second one when it came out so i but then i think i've
00:23:26started watching the first one this thoughtful movie expecting blood guns blood guts guns everything
00:23:32and it was like what the fuck is this guy's deal and i was freaked out so i never actually have seen
00:23:36the rambos after that it just was not my thing i don't know when you think action movie star i think
00:23:42you just there's at least one arnold schwarzenegger i think t2's my guy because of that and like you
00:23:48said the whole robotic casino man side of things did add a little extra to the character and he was
00:23:53just a badass motherfucker so he was under the skull he was like the legit under his like skin he was
00:23:58the legitimate skull robot right yeah it was like a full-on robot underneath yeah flesh coverage or
00:24:03flesh fake skin what they call it cybernetic skin or something yeah i i'm gonna just vote by the
00:24:09accent that accent just fucking crushed it i'll be buck yeah uh so one vote for the terminator

00:24:23like if you think action hero arnie's coming to your mind like almost immediately like just

00:24:56have seen rambo um did that for a pod with eddie about a year ago way different than i expected like
00:25:02i feel like i've seen all the trailers of more the recent rambo movies and he's in the woods
00:25:07jungles of fucking vietnam or whatever like rambo one he's just like in the woods in new hampshire
00:25:12or something like i kept waiting for like when he's in new hampshire where is oregon or something
00:25:17is somewhere like like he's just in the woods in like a suburb a rural suburban town i kept waiting
00:25:23like all right when's he gonna go fucking overseas uh but i did like the movie and so since i
00:25:28haven't seen terminator i'll go rambo one vote for rambo uh kb i think both of these guys are kind
00:25:37of douchebags um oh come on you don't like lifting weights have you ever watched all of my youth
00:25:45wrestling coach all of my wrestling coaches were really inspired by like john rambo and rocky they
00:25:52thought he was real um but terminator is more iconic it's cooler i like that he was a machine
00:25:58and not just a guy um so i'll go terminator one another vote for terminator chay yeah terminator
00:26:05like rambo was a like severely like fucked up dude who obviously has a lot going on terminator
00:26:13um or uh schwarzenegger that movie was just he had a purpose and he fulfilled it and did it to the
00:26:22best of his abilities and then yeah came out as like a he was like one of the pop culture icons
00:26:26specifically in that movie of the decade uh so give me uh arnie that means arnie's gonna move on and by
00:26:33the way just to follow up on that on that rivalry thing uh schwarzenegger said he read the script it's
00:26:40piece of shit and let's be honest say to myself i'm not gonna do this movie then i go to sly and

00:27:21star of an action movie but like is he an action hero it's kind of tough to like like his sacrifice
00:27:26that he makes is like totally heroic no question about it but like is he an action action hero
00:27:30i don't know what do you think i when i threw him on there i was just gonna try to submit all
00:27:37bruce willis characters and those are the first two and then i was like i'll mix it up a little
00:27:41here uh i asked i honestly i was gonna look to see if they even considered it an action movie it kind
00:27:45of hits every fucking genre uh but i i think harry stamper is like the most heroic person in the
00:27:52history of fucking movies and he probably trumps all these people i don't know if everyone would
00:27:57have done what he did if they were in that situation so that's why i had to throw him
00:28:00at least to the submission list but 16 i don't know like did more people see armageddon than die
00:28:06hard that might be the case on this panel probably yeah i would imagine also it gave us a great um
00:28:11song from uh shoot um aerosmith aerosmith yeah which was the theme song of the nba playoffs this year
00:28:18was it i didn't know oh i don't think i put her to her to play um cameron poe from con air
00:28:23is also on the list uh i actually re-watched con air kind of recently it's hilarious how bad
00:28:28nick cage's accent is in con air it's atrocious and if you don't know who cameron poe is uh he's
00:28:35a former army ranger that like beats up men that are trying to assault his wife and accidentally
00:28:40kills one of them so they put him in prison kills him puts him in prison for 10 years which by the
00:28:44way would never it would never indict this man yeah um but then he ends up getting on and put on a
00:28:50a plane with a bunch of cons the cons take over the plane he saves uh the day basically uh another
00:28:56nick cage roll ben gates from national treasure who i would say is definitely an action hero and i mean
00:29:00he's just you don't ask okay good i'll make sure he made it on the list uh the first one that really
00:29:06excited me he is an action hero and an american hero yes i would agree an american hero i feel like
00:29:13in general like this genre of guy like americana hero like he's just so cool he's a great is it crazy
00:29:19to say that and i i know some people i know he's it's not as iconic but i almost feel like
00:29:25if they made more of them national treasures could have been like the mod or more modern indiana jones
00:29:31yes like i think there was they could have i'll never forgive them for not making a national treasure
00:29:37three they made a series that was bad on disney plus that no one watched it was like teenage
00:29:44national treasure on disney and it was horrible and i believe that disney's kind of like not holding
00:29:50it hostage but they're not allowing kind of brockhammer and cage and all them to make it which
00:29:56kind of sucks uh because brockhammer is obviously an action genius so ben gates from national treasure
00:30:02you mentioned this one tommy i agree with this he was really cool um although he's kind of like a
00:30:07substandard version of a different person who may show up later bob odenkirk and nobody i think he was
00:30:12very cool underrated movie um just just a good old action movie it it i watched i don't know a couple

00:33:20like for the worst criminals in the united states for like ken jack said punching a guy outside of
00:33:26a bar and knocking him dead with one punch who was like assaulting his wife yeah the guy was
00:33:33harassing his wife and he like just throws like and nick cage is not a trained fighter so it's just a
00:33:38sloppy punch no it just kills the man he does one of those yeah you know what i mean like that weird
00:33:44like thing they loved that palm punch thing yeah yeah and then he ends up on a plane with a bunch of
00:33:50convicts one of them being cyrus the virus and i mean what a name brings him down what a cast too
00:33:57oh cyrus grissom yeah cyrus grissom and uh steve buscemi was he had a cool name too in that like um
00:34:04he's the guy that came in like all um hannibal lectured out with like the mask and like he's yeah
00:34:09um so one vote for cameron poe tommy there's only one man on this list who stole the declaration of
00:34:17independence uh and that's ben gates uh so and the book of secrets just as good if not better um
00:34:26i don't know what his angle was i i don't really remember why why did he steal it just just for
00:34:33treasure hunt i guess he wasn't really well someone else was gonna steal it yeah right
00:34:37when you put the invisible ink on it or something right yeah really just kind of wanted treasure
00:34:41so maybe not the most noble of these heroes but i like him the most john voight's there john voight
00:34:49would do that now that's his uh his dad i think right in the movie um yes so one for stamper one

00:34:58something about punching the guy who harasses your wife is heroic to me
00:35:09and actually killing him that's is that why he's the hero or did he do heroic stuff after that
00:35:15he does that he gets thrown in prison for like indefinitely and then he gets out and they're like
00:35:20okay we're gonna transport you back home just in time for your daughter's birthday but we have to put
00:35:24you on con air which is this big fucking cargo plane which houses all the uh worst criminals in
00:35:31the world that have to be transported to other places and the convicts take over the plane including
00:35:36led by cyrus the virus among others uh and he needs to stop the plane from you know letting you're
00:35:44escaping with all the convicts on board yeah give me him another vote for cameron poe you can either tie
00:35:52it up or just send it straight home for cameron poe if you want jay as my shirt says i'm a dad so i
00:35:58gotta go for uh mr stamper say the ultimate sacrifice uh while he's not like the traditional
00:36:06action hero like a stallone or a schwarzenegger he does uh again make the ultimate sacrifice so i gotta
00:36:13go with him okay so i have to pick now between cameron poe and harry stamper and i think like it's it's
00:36:21it kind of stinks because they're going to go into a bit of a buzzsaw but i think i'll go with harry
00:36:24stamper just for kind of the reasons you're outlining here like he's not the biggest action
00:36:27hero but he does the singular most heroic act of maybe anybody on this entire bracket and blowing
00:36:34himself up with nuclear bombs to stop the world from being hit by a meteor like that's doesn't really
00:36:40get much more heroic than that um so he's a roughneck too that counts for something in my book yes and also
00:36:47if you've never watched and i feel like a lot of people have at this point the the ben affleck
00:36:51commentary on am and on uh commentary track on armageddon is so funny he's just like pretty drunk
00:36:57just like what's the line he says he's like i asked michael bay wouldn't it be so much easier to train
00:37:02uh astronauts how to drill and he said shut the fuck up ben or something like that like he's just
00:37:09the best so harry stamper gonna get the stamp of approval and he's gonna move on versus our number
00:37:15one seed uh it may be a little bit biased for me to throw him as the one seed um but in my opinion
00:37:21when you think action hero it's very tough to think of many characters that have saved the world more
00:37:26times than this guy so i think he combines both the incredible action and the heroics and that's
00:37:33ethan hunt from the mission impossible franchise very difficult not to have ethan hunt as the number
00:37:37one um he saved the world like 18 like literally we're on what movie number eight he saved the world
00:37:43eight times like minimum that's just what we know of so ethan hunt tom cruise versus harry stamper
00:37:50bruce willis uh start with you chay uh i i used to really like mission impossible i've kind of cooled on
00:38:01it i'm going stamper let me stamper uh he's not as cool or as sleek as um
00:38:13tom cruise in those movies tom tom cruise i mean that character is almost like what
00:38:21almost how i envisioned bond being like cooler like less like more under pressure but everything
00:38:28always works out in his way um even with the you know drop from the iconic drop from the ceiling
00:38:32and he's you know this close to the floor uh but again stamper is just the every man uh so give me
00:38:38harry stamper as a counterpart i'll throw out there james bond has never done anything as cool or risky
00:38:44really as yeah and cruise does his own stunts in those right yes cruise does his own stunts in those
00:38:48and all of them basically uh or i think actually so one vote for stamper kb uh let me go last
00:38:57in these unless i'm very familiar with the character so i can hear some some more pitches

00:39:32voting on uh i'm voting for mission impossible they're calling him the white jackie chan he is
00:39:37he took a lot of inspiration from jackie chan and buster keaton uh to give you a little background
00:39:41maybe kb this will help to ethan hunt is the primary agent of the imf which is the impossible

00:40:35he's got a he's got a gadget guy he's got a hacking guy he's usually got a woman on the team for
00:40:41espionage and allure uh unlike bond you see him sweat yeah okay he's he's human yeah i'll go with
00:40:48him he's very he likes to rock climb does rock climb he does helicopter stunts he's flying planes
00:40:54he's rappelling off the world's tallest building he's diving into like pools where he has to hold
00:41:00his breath free diving for five minutes at a time like it's crazy he's done a trillion of these stunts
00:41:06um he halo jumped too which is insane um so two we're one to one right now clem
00:41:12i i saw the first mission impossible i think like opening day it was a huge deal
00:41:18i saw the second one didn't really love it and then i got out of the franchise and then i was told
00:41:26years later like the philip seymour hoffman one is fucking like the best which apparently was the
00:41:31third one so maybe i should have given the theater the old shot for that one so i missed that and i've
00:41:35been out ever since because of it so i kind of don't have the uh clear love you guys have of it
00:41:40i mean it's going to be hard to go against harry stamper i also don't know if this if i could blame
00:41:46the act if i could separate the actor from the character i kind of blame tom cruise for katie
00:41:52noel not being in the dark night which would make it a perfect movie i feel like he was fucking her

00:52:44shit going out and saving archaea or saving artifacts and stuff killing nazis like he does everything
00:52:50that's cool everything that is cool indiana jones does he's just like the quintessential action hero in

01:08:14hype about it and i recently watched it on an airplane and i was expecting to like it

01:26:19but he was always encountering snakes quite a bit quite so he was always afraid
