00:00Morgana Garland-Fernandez loves running, but like other women, she's feeling increasingly
00:09unsafe running in Alice Springs after multiple women reported being assaulted while running
00:14along the Todd River in the past fortnight.
00:16Really upset, worried, angry, we're feeling very vulnerable at the moment.
00:22Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in relation to the incidents, but it prompted
00:27the town's running community to host a Take Back the Track run to raise money for personal
00:32safety alarms for runners.
00:34About 150 people attended the event, looking to send a strong message.
00:39Enough is enough.
00:40Women and gender diverse people should be able to run without fear and concern for their safety.
00:47But during the run, another four women reported they were harassed or inappropriately touched
00:53by a group of children and teenagers.
00:55Amius Lennie says he saw one young person slap a woman on the bottom.
00:59Yeah, I was like, wow, and she kept running and sort of laughed it off.
01:05And so I didn't know if she was part of this group.
01:07But anyway, I decided at that point that I'm actually going to say something to the young
01:11fellas because that's where this stuff stops.
01:13The latest incidents mean eight women have now allegedly been assaulted while running in
01:18Alice Springs in the past fortnight.
01:21Runners are calling for action on the nationwide issue.
01:23We need areas that are clear, that have good lighting, perhaps with CCTV.
01:29You know, those are measures that governments and councils can be taking to help us to feel
01:33safer.
01:34Education, talking about stuff like this and making sure people know that it's just not appropriate.
01:40The event has raised $3,000 for personal alarms and the incidents have been reported to police.
01:45Well, it is.
01:48Good luck.
