Will Rooney discussed Everton's summer transfer window and areas they will attempt to addres.
Transcript
00:00Yeah, just on the transfer window, obviously a big summer of transition.
00:04You know, David Moyes has said it ever since he came back to the club,
00:08how important this summer is going to be.
00:09We've mentioned it before.
00:10We've mentioned the players who are out of contract as well.
00:14Why has it been so quiet so far?
00:16Is it to do with the PSR deadline?
00:18Obviously, late June, that kicks in.
00:21And then do you feel there's going to be a bit of a spark of business
00:24ever so slowly in terms of this adjusting to the new sort of era at Everton?
00:31I think it's been slow because June is normally a bit of a slow month
00:34in terms of the transfer window.
00:36You look around the clubs that have done business so far
00:39and Liverpool have obviously done business and Manchester City.
00:43So maybe it's only the real clubs with money to spend
00:47who start that domino effect effectively.
00:50And then once players start moving on, then opportunities open up.
00:54Obviously, I think maybe the PSR situation,
00:58if Everton can sign a player on July 1st instead of June 30th,
01:03then it goes into the next set of accounts
01:04and Everton's accounts are improving all the time.
01:07So that'll help down the line.
01:10And it's just, as you say, players are on holiday.
01:13I think in the next couple of weeks,
01:15things might start getting a little bit livelier.
01:16Kenny Tete from Fulham, that's one that looks like we might be getting over the line
01:23on a free transfer, an addition at right-bass,
01:26which Everton have got options at right-bass,
01:28but Jake O'Brien was excellent after Moyes came in,
01:33but he's a natural centre-back, probably rotate with Tete.
01:37Where's that leading day from passing?
01:39Maybe you're thinking about there.
01:41Everton needs a new striker, at least one new striker, perhaps two,
01:45because Dominic Albert-Lewin, as I think stands,
01:48will be to part in the football club.
01:51Armando Brogge has gone back to Chelsea.
01:55Does David Moyes want Beto to be his out-and-out striker week in, week out?
01:59I don't want to talk to Tierno Barri at Villarreal,
02:03but to Everton, I think he's worth ÂŁ35 million
02:06for a player who might take a little bit of time
02:09just spending that sort of money.
02:10If you're Everton, then you need someone to be starting week in, week out,
02:13like Liam Dillac would have been sent from the field.
02:17He still needs options.
02:18I think he needs a couple more, even if it's just Garnagay's start.
02:22If you've got Garnagay, you've got James Garner,
02:27Tim Irabunum, is he ready for the Premier League?
02:29Does he maybe need a loan?
02:31Wide options have only got Dwight McNeil and Illum and Dice,
02:35so they need a little bit more pace, I think, down that right flank,
02:39to be honest, someone who can rarely get Everton up the pitch
02:42and cause issues.
02:45They've only got one senior goalkeeper in Jordan Pickford,
02:48so back up his needs is what do Everton do there in terms of back up?
02:53Centre-back, if Michael Keane leaves, maybe he needs a fourth-choice one.
02:57And I'd like to see Everton go and get a left-back because Vitaly Michalinko has been the only senior
03:02out-and-out option for a while now, and I think he needs a little bit of competition,
03:07a little bit more cover, someone a bit more attacking maybe.
03:10So I never have got money to spend, but it's not like it's going to be a blank cheque.
03:19I think maybe it'll be a decent-sized fund, but not vast, vast amounts.
03:26And David Moyer's got to weigh up where it's best to spend his money,
03:29where can he get free transfers, who's available for loan.
03:32Loans generally come available later in the window when other clubs sign players
03:40and then they're allowing players to go out, so who's going to be available
03:44on the loan market.
03:46So that's why it's a big sum for Everton.
03:48They probably could go out and buy players now, but they might be the right players
03:51for Everton at the minute.
03:53So there'll be conversation with lots of doubts ongoing with agents and clubs,
03:59et cetera, but it might just be a little bit later, and Everton's business
04:03might really kick off a bit later and then accelerate towards the end of the window,
04:08especially in the loan market when players are becoming available.
04:11But I wouldn't panic yet.
04:13It's going to be a busy summer.
04:15Everyone's known it's going to be a busy summer.
04:17It's not like Everton are caught on the hop here, and all of a sudden
04:21they need to get players through the door.
04:23They've known that for a long time, Everton, and they'll be fairly relaxed,
04:28I would say, at the minute.
04:30The situation, there's no need to panic.
04:32They're not even back for pre-season yet.
04:34So a lot of clubs aren't back for pre-season yet.
04:37So I think there's absolutely no need to panic as things stand.
