Yash Sarvesh Srivastava from BTech Class of 2025 was always passionate about mathematics. In his four years at Plaksha, he was able to transform his interest into meaningful work at the intersection of AI, data science and real-world problem-solving.

Pursuing the major Data Science, Economics & Business (DSEB), Yash applied machine learning to predict water stress levels from drone imagery, collaborated on geospatial deep learning research, and explored AI-driven behavior modeling through a social media simulator.

His learning extended beyond the classroom with internships at Wadhwani AI and Jefferies.

In the Mumbai launch event for the Harish and Bina Shah School of AI & Computer Science, Yash shared his learning journey at Plaksha with CXOs, entrepreneurs and tech leaders from India and faculty from UC Berkeley.

00:00I'm Yash. I'm a fourth year at Plaksha and I'm studying data science, economics and business.
00:07I use deep learning and in the space of geospatial machine learning. Using drone images, what we were
00:13doing is we were predicting the water and stress levels. Obviously, huge implications in agriculture
00:18and this is just the start of what I was doing. That led to me co-authoring a research paper in
00:24the same field as well as I also got an internship at Wadwani AI which is a company that does stuff in
00:30similar direction and there I worked on pest detections just using images of crops that
00:36farmers would send to us and this would have implications in them calculating their losses
00:41way before if something had actually happened. I also worked on a project called Social Media Simulator.
00:47It's harnessing the power of AI to models, user performance, personas and then we basically
00:53made a small Twitter. You can send out your post and then you would get the response of
00:58what likes, what comments would you get from a dedicated crowd. So, it's just the amount
01:03of stuff, AI that is involved everywhere and that leads me to me being a quant intern at
01:09Jefferies. Jefferies is a financial firm and I got a return offer from there and I'm really
01:15excited to work in APAC there as well. But all this is just to say that AI, be it customer
01:21acquisition like we saw in Social Media Simulator, be it agriculture in my projects with Wadwani AI
01:27or my research paper or be it simply finance which I'm working on in currently and I think
01:33I have pleasure to thank for that to have my continued interest in it as well as my
01:39really foundational knowledge that really drives me every day.
