At a press briefing on Monday, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) was asked about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) suggesting the strikes against Iran was grounds for impeachment of President Trump.
00:01There are some members in your conference that have suggested impeaching President Trump over these Iranian strikes.
00:08Impeachment has come up, not just from AOC, but other members.
00:11Is that a tool on the table for you if you were to take back the House?
00:15I think what's on the tool, a tool that's on the table right now, is to continue to demand that the administration present itself before the United States Congress
00:26and make the case to the American people as to why this extraordinary step has been taken.
00:32That's step one.
00:33Step two is for the War Powers Resolution, whether that's the one that has already been introduced or others that may subsequently be introduced,
00:42for those resolutions to be debated on the House floor, as should have occurred already.
00:49And then we'll see where we're at thereafter.
00:52So you're not taking any calls for impeachment seriously right now?
00:56This is a dangerous moment that we're in, and we've got to get through what's in front of us.
01:02And what's in front of us right now is the Trump administration has a responsibility to come to Congress,
01:10justify its actions, for which we see no evidence to justify its offensive strike in Iran.
01:19And we also don't even know how effective the strike has been.
01:23There's zero evidence that I've seen that the nuclear program was completely and totally obliterated, as Donald Trump has claimed.
01:35No evidence that has been presented to Congress to suggest that that has occurred.
01:42Let's see what happens at the classified briefing tomorrow.
