A proud single mom who worked two jobs and gave her son daily affirmations was brought to tears when she finally surprised him with a car on his 18th birthday. Julia Jauregui, 36, from Pasadena, Texas, shares a deep bond with her son, Samuel. Each morning, she’d drop him off at school with uplifting words like, “Be a leader” and “I love you,” to which he’d reply, “I love you more” — only for Julia to remind him, “But I loved you first.” After a tough few years, including moving out of her longtime rental and back in with her mother, Julia had one goal in mind: to gift Samuel a car. One morning, after a detour to pick up kolaches and donuts, Julia spotted a used 2009 Ford Focus for sale. She secretly negotiated the price down to $1,700, had it checked by a mechanic, and hid it for a month while adding thoughtful extras. On October 6, after recording her final school drop-off, Julia took Samuel to a restaurant with loved ones. When he opened a set of car cleaning products, it started to click. Overcome with emotion, Samuel asked if the gifts meant what he thought — and Julia confirmed with a tearful hug.

00:15Best friend for the next forever.
00:18And a tradition that was viral.
00:20Love you baby.
00:22I was the intermediate, like seventh grade,
00:24I started telling him every morning, like,
00:26I love you, you know, be a leader.
00:28It's like, William, you know, see something, say something.
00:31All right, have a great first day of school.
00:35Love you.
00:36And you mentioned I started recording it,
00:38and then I would post it, just, you know,
00:40because it was like our daily thing.
00:42And I saw, like, a lot of people love it,
00:44thought it was so nice.
00:45Love you son.
00:46Have a great day.
00:48Así que cuando atravesaron un momento difícil,
00:51Julia supo exactamente qué hacer.
00:54We kind of went through some changes this year.
00:57All summer, like, it was on my mind.
01:00Like, okay, you know, his birthday's coming up.
01:02Like, he needs a car.
01:04And he's a very active teenager.
01:06He goes to school.
01:07He works part-time.
01:09He's a thorting varsity basketball player.
01:11So he has basketball practice.
01:12And then, you know, me being a single mom,
01:14working full-time and going to school part-time also for myself.
01:18It was, like, a lot of stress and thinking about it as it came up.
01:21Un día, Julia tomó una ruta distinta para llevar a Samuel a la escuela
01:25y vio el auto perfecto.
01:27Like, I had to visualize what the perfect car would be for him
01:31and that I could possibly provide.
01:33And I literally envisioned, like, a small, little, black, sporty, cool-looking car.
01:38Con el regalo listo, solo quedaba a preparar la sorpresa.
01:42I bought the car and then I had to hide it
01:45because that was at the end of August
01:47and his birthday was in October.
01:49So he had no idea.
01:51So it was, like, a giant black bag with car stuff.
01:54And I figured, you know, I saw him, like, opening it
01:57and getting, catching the drift.
01:59Like, okay, it's car stuff.
02:00I don't have a car. What's going on?
02:05So you can watch your monster.
02:07Once she gave me the key and I found out, like, it was the car,
02:11like, I automatically realized, like, dang, like, after, like,
02:14all we've been through and just, it just being us
02:17and all, like, the struggles.
02:24When we hug each other and, like, we were crying to each other,
02:27like, crying to each other, it made us more than just a hug.
02:30Like, it was just, I guess it was just life.
02:32Like a connection.
02:33Yeah, a connection, yeah.
02:34Oh, my God.
02:36It was good. It was good. It was a blessing.
02:45It felt like, like, I did it.
02:47Which is exactly what I told him, like, when I hugged him.
02:49I said, I did it.
02:50Like, it felt like all that we had went through the past two years
02:53and I was able to still accomplish this, like, giant goal of mine
02:57that I had.
02:58And I remember, like, all the moments.
02:59I used to dump him off at school every day.
03:01It was, like, perfect.
03:02It was, like, the perfect ending to, or beginning it,
03:05to a new chapter, you know, to his 18th birthday
03:07and becoming an adult.
03:09Still my baby, though.
