00:00Just some years ago we were 6 billion people. Now we are 8 billion people.

00:05I mean, we are continuously growing. What is mass extinction?

00:09The earth simply does not have enough resources to sustain 8 billion or 10 billion or 11 billion of us.

00:17How many can the earth sustain?

00:19Depends on the quality of life that you define for yourself.

00:23It's not as if the earth cannot sustain 8 billion human beings. It can.

00:27But not at the current levels of consumption.

00:29At the current levels of consumption, not even a dozen earths suffice.

00:34And that's mathematical. That's not subjective.

00:37That's not something that I am saying or fearing.

00:41That's pure arithmetic. Anybody can work out the numbers.

00:44The kind of forest cover that we are losing every day, it would come as a horrible shock.

00:50And a lot of that is exactly because we have gone up from 6 billion to 8 billion.

00:55Every new addition, every fresh addition to our species actually means a death warrant for at least 10,000 members of other species.

01:07Yeah, it does.

01:08As soon as you are juices surprise them, to survive the human beings also seems a bit morenal.
