00:00Oh, it looked like a bit of a jump there, and movement from Ben Curry, and then he's flopped the start as well, it's not worth it, he looks down to his foot, Rhys Irwin was away well, number 69 on the orange Suzuki, Lee Johnston getting a good start as well, Ollie Bayliss is up to second, it's Jack Kennedy in third, but a nightmare there for Ben Curry.

00:17Yeah, he just looked like he got it slightly wrong, and he's gone backwards, he's down in about tenth, so he just, as you say, slight movement, then he just didn't seem to get the bite, and then, maybe he's got a problem, maybe there is an issue, but he's been swallowed up.

00:32He formed on the grid okay, but it was, yeah, very strange, we'll keep an eye on that.

00:38Around Parma corner, this left-hander, turn three, and now the run down towards Agostini, this left-handed hairpin, Rhys Irwin, it is that leads, Jack Kennedy has moved up into second place now, number one, remember the five-time champion on the Honda, ahead of Ollie Bayliss on the Macadam Triumph.

00:54So, Ben Curry, what do we make of that, we'll keep an eye on, look, he's in fourth there as well, is that, is that Lee Johnston up in fourth, or am I seeing things?

01:05Yeah.

01:06Oh, it is him, there he is, number 13 in fourth, what a great start.

01:10Yeah, it is a great start, so it's the best we've seen of him for a while, wonderful to see him come back, and you can see at the front, Rhys Irwin on the Suzuki, third in the championship, the man who qualified on pole, really getting his head down, trying to stretch,

01:24to pack early doors.

01:26So, into Brundle and Nelson, 69, Irwin on that, Orange Suzuki, that Honda chasing him down, Jack Kennedy.

01:33Yeah, he's, he's just on going, Bayliss doing a great job there in third, and more importantly, ahead of his teammate, Stapleford, Stapleford just one point off the championship in second,

01:42and he's tucked there back in sixth at the moment, so he won't like that very much, Kennedy looking like he might have a little peep, not that lap.

01:50Yeah, Luke Stapleford with work to do early on here as well, he's down in sixth place, just by the way,

01:54I'm Harry Truelove, Eugene McManus' seventh, good to see Eugene out there, he had a fall earlier.

01:58Yeah, Truelove up to fifth and tenth on the grid, it's a great start from him.

02:03So, over the line we go, Zach Corderoil, also another rider to keep an eye out on the downcooper motorsport, Honda.

02:09He's just gone over the line inside that top eight.

02:13Here is Rhys Irwin.

02:15Yeah, looking good, looking good there Rhys.

02:20I mean, all the time though, Jack Kennedy, he knows, Jack Kennedy's just that little bit, he's in fourth, but he's 12 points behind,

02:27so this will be a great opportunity for him to try and, you know, with the championship leader at the moment, where is Curry?

02:33Curry's down in 19th after that, you know, after that strange little bit on the start, they're running wide on the hairpin.

02:42It'll be interesting, he's still going though, isn't he?

02:44There's problems here for Eugene McManus, who was in the top five of the championship as well.

02:49You're right.

02:50He did have a fall earlier in qualifying, there's every chance that as they're putting the fight together, something's maybe going to miss.

02:55Yeah, it's a costly, costly thing for him, for just 14 points back on the, on the leader, but a long way to go, long way to go.

03:03This is round three, another race tomorrow, so, you know, it's, it's not the end of the world, but at the same time, he wouldn't be wanting it.

03:09Baylis looks like he's putting a good lap here as well.

03:12Let's have a little look, it was a 156.8 from, from Irwin on that lap.

03:16That was the quickest off the, off that flying lap.

03:19They'll be interested to see what they do now.

03:21The lap record, they were under the lap record in qualifying, the lap record is a 150.6 set by, um, Stapleford in 2015, would you believe?

03:30One of the longest standing lap records, and they did a 150.4 was pole.

03:35The whole front row actually were under that, um, the top four actually were under that lap time, so we, we looks like it could go today.

03:42But baking conditions, really hot, so it's going to show, firstly, fitness, secondly, he's worked on getting the bike set up for race pace.

03:50It's not just one lap, because they, they are going to get a bit oily, you know, it's going to feel a little bit slimy later on in the race.

03:57So you've got to make sure, obviously it's a shorter race today, just the 10 laps, but it's going to be important.

04:01And look, Jack Kennedy definitely looks like he's, he's up for this, and he's sort of just keeping the pressure on him at the moment.

04:09Doesn't need to rush too much, they're just working their way forward.

04:12They both did one, they did identical lap times on that lap time, last lap, 151.64.

04:19So, um, yeah, uh, so that, they were the quickest men in the race, so they're, they're about a second off the lap record.

04:27But at the moment, they don't need to be breaking the lap record.

04:29They know that, uh, it was, of course, Curry managed to do, Curry's gone three places up.

04:34We've got a fuller there.

04:35That's, uh, boom, yeah, it is, yeah, Jorral Boaboom on the GNS Racing Kawasaki, the South African, unfortunately, has gone down.

04:41Yep.

04:42So Curry's, you know, he is, um, he's going, but he's a few seconds off, he's mired in the pack right back there, you know, crazy, Columbia, Luxembourg, you know, back there just outside the points.

04:52But he is in that row of guys going to about 11th spot.

04:58It's the Suzuki that leads of Irwin from the Honda of Kennedy.

05:01There is 21-year-old Ollie Bayliss, son of Troy, now just inching a bit closer.

05:06He is, and he's done well, actually, because these two just inched a bit.

05:09Um, the first time he's been at Snetterton, this is the, this is going to be the crash for the back of Burboom.

05:16It is, we just watch out, left-hand side, a picture of Green Motorcycle.

05:20Oh, he just gets tangled, actually, with someone else.

05:22They take his, his front away, or it looks like he's not waving his arms, so I think he tangled himself.

05:27Oh, it's Jack, no, he's, he's teeing that up, he's having a little look at that.

05:34He's done that a couple of times, you see, he's just fractionally sort of different line.

05:38And, um, again, at the moment, while they're just going, let's see what they do on this lap.

05:43They cross the line, quickest man on that lap, quickest man of the race, 151.2, was Bayliss in, uh, in third position.

05:50So 0.8 of a second, uh, 0.7 of a second off the lap record at the moment.

05:55But as I say, they're not lap record conditions in the, I know Brad Ray, you know, put a new lap record in earlier on.

06:02But, you know, with it being so hot, you know, the air for the motorcycles, the engines are going to be losing a little bit of power.

06:08You know, the tyres are going to be sliding around a little bit more.

06:12Whoa, Bayliss there, you see him just have a little bit of movement on the rear.

06:15But it's good to see the youngster. We haven't seen that much of him in World Championship, being that little bit back off the, uh, off the action.

06:21So it's good to see him. And this will do his confidence a world of good, because these guys aren't hanging about either.

06:26No, and I think that was the whole point, wasn't it? I think Simon Buckmaster and Steve Sargent as well, they all thought this might be an idea.

06:31There was a space available. Quite funny, I spoke to him, uh, briefly here on Thursday.

06:35I said, what did your dad think about you coming over to the UK to race here?

06:39He said, I didn't tell him until I'd already accepted the ride.

06:42He's done a track day a couple of weeks ago here, just to kind of get an idea of how the circuit goes.

06:47But of course, this is, these are his first laps in anger.

06:50Yeah, and we just see Staplesford's got past True Love.

06:52So Staplesford's up to fifth now, the man's second in the championship, just a point off.

06:56And he's right on the back of, uh, Johnston.

06:59Lovely to see Lee Johnston, sort of back of the sharp end there, the man in false position.

07:04But at the moment, three different manufacturers in the top three.

07:06We've got an Irishman, two Irishmen, and an Australian, then coming back to the Englishman.

07:13Not two more Englishmen.

07:14Well, Lee Johnston, I suppose you could consider him from Huddersfield now, as soon as he's been living.

07:18That's his Irishman, isn't he?

07:19Yeah, Northern Irishman, but he's been living up in Huddersfield for so long now.

07:23They claim him.

07:25No, believe me, Witt and Matt claim him.

07:27Just behind him is Staplesford in fifth.

07:31True Love's on the Ducati towel, but also on a Ducati in seventh.

07:33Quite interesting, actually.

07:34I thought that we'd see the Ducati's a bit stronger here at SNAF.

07:40And actually, Colombi's got past Curry, actually.

07:42So Colombi's, we're going to look back here for your championship leader.

07:46But he's, he is still, I mean, he's back in, um, actually, is he?

07:50No, he's gone 14th.

07:51Sorry, he's just updated.

07:53So Curry is back in the points.

07:54He's making his way forward.

07:5552.6, so he's quicker than the men around him, as you'd expect.

07:59He had qualified on the front row.

08:00So whatever that, whatever that was, you know, whether he had a little bit of slippage

08:04or whether it was just, I don't know, whatever it was, it's not affecting him anymore.

08:09And he's making his way forward.

08:10And, you know, this will be important for him.

08:12It's a wonderful opportunity for Jack Kennedy to close that gap.

08:16At the moment, Kennedy, the man in second, is, is, uh, he's 12 points off that championship

08:22lead.

08:23So this could really change it, tighten it up.

08:26Uh, and again, Stapleford, that, Stapleford will probably be, you imagine, oh, is he going

08:31to have a little look here?

08:32He's on the wrong side, isn't he?

08:33He's having a look and he is going through.

08:35He had a big look over and Jack Kennedy does take the lead up ahead there of Ries Erwin.

08:38Yeah, so Jack Kennedy, you can see, and in the background, Stapleford's coming as well.

08:42Let's have a little look.

08:44151.4.

08:45So again, Baylis was the quickest man in that last lap at 151.2.

08:48And, uh, then we can see Stapleford's coming.

08:51It looks like a quick lap from Stapleford on this lap because he's definitely visibly closer.

08:55Yes, since he's got through on Johnston, that's unbelievable how much he's reeled in.

08:59Hasn't he just?

09:00And he's pulling Johnston back with him, but because he can see that, I think, you know,

09:03Jack Kennedy's maybe been communicated that and he's thinking, I've got to get my head

09:07down.

09:07And look at the space.

09:08You know, that's five bite lengths he's done in three or four corners.

09:11So, you know, he's decided, he's trying to pull the pin here, see if he can make that

09:16break halfway distance and just get some of those championship points back.

09:20This could even be a sub-51 lap coming in from number eight, Luke Stapleford in fourth.

09:24Let's get them over the line then.

09:25We start lap six off ten.

09:26Kennedy, Erwin, Baylis, Stapleford at 50.8.

09:30Yeah, quickest man on the track.

09:31And he was nearly, yeah, I mean, he was 1.1 seconds quicker than the leader.

09:38So, yeah, Stapleford is absolutely flying.

09:42And like I say, he will not like Baylis to be ahead of him on his team.

09:46First time in the team, first time on the bike.

09:48And I know he's riding a tramp in World Championship, albeit to a different spec.

09:53But you can see, look at that.

09:54Look at those last lap, 1.1 seconds.

09:57Incredible.

09:58Yeah.

09:59So, here comes Stapleford and he's just, you know, at this point in the race as well,

10:04but he's still got plenty of time to put the pressure and go for the win here.

10:08Yeah, Lee Johnson's not totally out of it either.

10:10Number 13 on the Sencat by Swan Racing Triumph.

10:13Curry's made some more moves.

10:15So, Curry is up to 13th.

10:17And he's got a bit of a bridge to go to the next guy.

10:20He's got a couple of seconds to bridge it.

10:21But, again, with, you know, starting lap six and ten,

10:24he's got plenty of time to try and make that.

10:26And we've got another faller there.

10:28Is that the up?

10:29That's TJ Toms.

10:30It's the other GNS Racing Kawasaki who's gone down, unfortunately.

10:34Where's TJ gone down?

10:36Yeah.

10:37Just the front.

10:38Just lost the front, you see from the bike.

10:40It's grabbing too much front brake just as you come to the apex.

10:44He's just inside the top ten as well.

10:46Lee, we can see then going through his Luke Stapleford number eight.

10:49He's gone through on Oli Bayless.

10:50He has indeed.

10:51So, what can he do now?

10:53We're just coming around two more corners and then we're starting lap seven of ten.

10:58It is Jack Kennedy in the lead.

11:01Then we've got Rhys Irwin on the Suzuki.

11:03And now we've got the two triumphs of, well, three triumphs, actually.

11:06But the two teammates, Stapleford and Bayless.

11:08Bayless holding his head high, doing a good job here.

11:10Yeah, I think so.

11:11Really, really solid job here because these guys are all experienced campaigners.

11:17Look at the back of Rhys Irwin.

11:18He's getting egged on on the gear link.

11:21Performance 15, Suzuki.

11:24And another 150.9 there.

11:26The only man in the 50s at the moment is Stapleford.

11:29That's another half second he's taken out of Jack Kennedy.

11:32And now that top four separated by point, you know, just over a second.

11:39Ben Curry went over the line in 12th place.

11:41He's lapping in the 53s but he's in a lot of traffic.

11:44Stapleford then, can he make a move on Rhys Irwin?

11:48It's so odd, isn't it, to look at Jack Kennedy out front, number one.

11:51We're at, what, round three of the championship.

11:53But he's yet to win a race this season.

11:55At the moment, he is in that key position.

11:58Yeah, it's been a good track for him over the years.

12:00But I think he's had 11 wins around here.

12:02So, you know, which is more than, well, probably pretty much more than anyone else combined, I imagine.

12:07So, Ian, he's a class act.

12:09He's the current champion, the most successful rider in this class ever in the British series.

12:14So, he's a four-time champ and he knows his business but he's struggled a little bit.

12:19These, you know, these new rules, you know, in the different capacity motorcycles, which they balance beautifully, by the way.

12:25But, you know, there are swings and roundabouts on it and he has found that at times it can be a little tough.

12:32As we see Rhys Irwin, he knows it is nothing worse.

12:35His ball's going from, you know, plus one to point nine to point eight.

12:39So, he knows someone's coming and he probably even knows it's Stapleford.

12:42But look at that top four under a blanket.

12:45Rhys Irwin has just put in a personal best second sector as well.

12:47But Kennedy actually put in a personal best first sector.

12:50So, they're all pushing on.

12:51Things are getting a bit spicy here.

12:52It's Kennedy, it's Irwin, it's Stapleford.

12:55Three men that you know are going to fight for this championship this year along with Ben Curry.

12:59And it looks like at this stage, Oli Bayliss just struggling to live with this pace as they head on to the start-finish straight.

13:05Yeah, it's just starting to come.

13:06They start lap eight of ten and Rhys Irwin's maybe looking for the inside line coming into here.

13:11He had a really good drive.

13:13Couldn't quite do it and he might be under pressure from Stapleford.

13:16Again, watch the inside come to this next right-hander.

13:18This is where Stapleford's quite good and he likes to pass here.

13:20Can't do it.

13:22Rhys Irwin nice and late on the breaks.

13:24You can see them all closing up.

13:30So, they stay as they are for now.

13:32Further back then, it's Bayliss fourth, Johnston fifth.

13:34Beyond the top eight, Corduroy sits in eights behind Talbot.

13:37Dean Harrison ninth.

13:38Oli Bardo in a Duke-Decis job.

13:40He's tenth head of Joe Shelton Shaw.

13:42Curry's now still twelfth.

13:43Yeah, it's got a...

13:44Head of Cameron Fraser.

13:45It's got a bit of a gap still.

13:46It was 2.1.

13:47It's down to 1.6.

13:48But he's got a bit of climbing to do to get to Sheldon Shaw.

13:52As you get to this sharp wind, it is harder.

13:54And what are they lapping at?

13:55They are lapping almost identical.

13:57So, it's going to be touchy.

13:59He might get him on the last lap.

14:01It's going to be close.

14:01Kennedy looked like he was just struggling speed-wise to stay with him back at Donington.

14:05But this is a good showing from the Irishman.

14:08The five-time champion coming back with a back.

14:10Yeah, I mean, there's not a lot wrong with the top end of the Honda CBR 600 RY.

14:16It's just more...

14:17It seems to lack a fraction of punch sometimes off the turns compared to these bigger capacity motorcycles.

14:22And as I say, they're balancing them very, very well.

14:25But it is the swings around about us.

14:27It's also probably a fraction more nimble in places.

14:29So, it's kind of a trade-off.

14:31And I think, you know, looking at them now, we're watching them go down long straights, tight turns, long turns.

14:36And they look very evenly balanced.

14:38Yes, they do.

14:38So, I think it's a huge pat on the back for the, you know, for everyone working involved in that here, you know, to balance these bikes so beautifully.

14:45Around Corham Curve, there will be two laps to go once they've made their way down the centre straight.

14:50Number one, Jack Kennedy on the Honda leads from number 69.

14:54Rhys Irwin on the Gearlink bike performance, 15 Suzuki.

14:56Then it's the Macadam Triumph, number eight of Staplefoot.

14:59Here comes Rhys Irwin.

14:59He does indeed.

15:00He's just got that little bit, hasn't he?

15:03Now, the point is, oh, but Kennedy's so late on the brakes into there.

15:08And he just, look at it.

15:09And then he absolutely pulls it.

15:11He will be desperate to win this, as you say.

15:14He's not having a win at this point in the season so far.

15:16It's only round three.

15:17But at the same time, he's used to winning by now.

15:20And, you know, he is a winner.

15:22And he will want that, the man riding that number one.

15:25And I'll tell you what, he's nailed that.

15:27It's a really good first section for him.

15:29He's just put a bike and a half on Irwin.

15:32He loves a challenger.

15:34He's always up for it, James.

15:35Even though he's won five times, he wants more.

15:37He wants to defend more.

15:38But he wants to go.

15:39You're absolutely spot on about that first sector, by the way.

15:42Jack Kennedy's just gone purple on our timing screens.

15:44This is a great lap here.

15:45Yeah, and Kennedy, he knows what he's got to do.

15:49He's got a lap and a half to go.

15:50He wants to win this.

15:52He knows whether he does it or not.

15:55Does it with Koei being out?

15:56It's a wonderful opportunity for him to launch himself back into that championship.

16:01And it's going to close right up.

16:03So it's really important.

16:05He's so neat he was through there.

16:07He was moving a bit, but just in the right level of spin and grip.

16:11He's, you know, got that great aggressive style as they come down the back straight to the fast.

16:15They said, Stapleford having a little look, can't quite do it.

16:17No, that was good stuff.

16:18You're right there.

16:19Oh, Kennedy's made a mistake.

16:20He's gone deep there into Brundle corner.

16:23And that has invited pressure from Rhys Irwin.

16:25But you can't go through there at the bomb hole.

16:27No, you can't.

16:28And as we said, all that, it looked like he was doing it.

16:31But that is how hard on the limb he's going.

16:33He's just, he's such a neat sort of rider that sometimes you don't see it.

16:39That shows you how hard he's pushing as they're about to start the last lap.

16:42It is Kennedy, Irwin Stapleford.

16:45Yeah, this is anyone, anyone.

16:47This is Jack Kennedy out front, number one.

16:48But immediately putting out the slipstream there on the Suzuki.

16:51He's re-serving, number 69.

16:52Stapleford would do well here just to sit back and watch this one unfold.

16:55Again, late on the brakes from Kennedy.

16:57He holds on for now.

16:58He does indeed.

16:59And you can see, so good round there.

17:01This is where Stapleford's made some passes.

17:03Can he do it?

17:04No, look at that.

17:05Irwin just closing that line off as well.

17:08Clever bit of riding.

17:09Dipping to the inside.

17:10Making him, forcing him to the outside.

17:12There's not too many passing spots now.

17:15What can he do?

17:16Can he get the drive out of Palmer Corner here, this left-hander,

17:20to maybe have a look up the inside of Agasthenes?

17:22Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see where he does cover himself.

17:25He's just dipped in.

17:27Oh, he's Irwin having a look, not quite again.

17:30Oh, he's got a fraction wide.

17:31He has got a fraction wide.

17:32Where he's Irwin is really strong is out of Oggies and Williams onto the back straight.

17:36He's got to get that nailed and try and find a way through on Jack Kennedy.

17:42So, this is the grid for the fastest laps.

17:47There for tomorrow.

17:48That's the grid.

17:49But this is the key corner now coming up.

17:51This right-hander onto the back straight.

17:52Rhys Irwin here.

17:53Number 69 has got to make this absolutely perfect.

17:55But Kennedy was brilliant round there himself.

17:57Did you see?

17:58He was just that little bit tighter so he could get it up a bit quicker,

18:01get on that throttle a little bit harder.

18:03And this is where he went wide in the last lap.

18:06You can see Rhys Irwin's trying, but he's not quite there.

18:09Can he keep it on line here?

18:10And Irwin goes a bit wide.

18:11This might allow Staplefoot to square it off.

18:13No, he's just got to keep it knee now.

18:16Oh, that was perfect from Jack Kennedy.

18:17He wasn't going to make the same mistake twice.

18:19And he's just been so precise in these last few corners.

18:22It would take a desperate, desperate lunge now for this result to change round.

18:26What a ride this has been from the draining champion.

18:29Yeah, it has.

18:30The five-time champ just comes in the last corner.

18:32Neat and tidy.

18:34It is going to stay in this order without anything dramatic.

18:36And it does.

18:37King Kennedy wants his title back.

18:39And he does win his first race of 20-25 over the line on the Honda.

18:44Great race.

18:44He wins from Rhys Irwin and Luke Staplefoot.

18:47And a good ride there in fourth for Bonnie Bayliss.

18:49Yeah, great for Bayliss.

18:50And Johnston who's taken fifth.

18:52But you saw what it meant to him and the team.

18:54That is the championship leader.

18:56No longer Ben Curry.

18:57Whatever that little funny clutch thing was at the start.

19:01And he comes across the line.

19:03So, look at that.

19:04He's fluffed his lines there, hasn't he?

19:06Talbot must have crashed on the last lap.

19:07Because Curry's got into 10th place there.

19:10But he's shaking his head.

19:10There is Joe Talbot.

19:12But he's up on his feet.

19:12He's okay.

19:13That's a shame for Talbot.

19:14Because he was in that top six.

19:16And so, bottom of the back straight.

19:19So, disappointing for him.

19:21But great.

19:22I mean, I'll be interested to see the championship points now after that.

19:24That's a great ride.

19:26Very chuffed for Jack Kennedy to have done that.

19:29Again, great ride from Irwin.

19:30He's on the case.

19:32Luke Staplefoot, he's the new championship leader for sure.

19:35Lovely little wheelie coming down there.

19:37And then look at Johnston as well.

19:38He'd be really chuffed with that, Johnston fifth.

19:40Yeah, look at that.

19:41Lee Johnston happy for Jack.

19:42And happy for himself as well on the Sencat by Swan Racing Triumph.

19:47He's up there in the early stages.

19:49But what a fighter he is.

19:51The fighting Irishman, Jack Kennedy.

19:54Love watching him ride a motorcycle.

19:56And well done to Reece Irwin.

19:57Because at Donington he showed he wants to be in this mix.

20:00And he's continued to prove that here as well.

20:02Yeah, really good.

20:03And, you know, we need him.

20:04We want him in the championships.

20:05He's a great talent.

20:07And it's lovely to see.

20:09And actually, it was funny.

20:10I was talking to Cheki earlier.

20:11And he was saying that he was struggling with the bike early on in the weekend weeks.

20:14But he'd been listening to Brad who was having a similar sort of problems.

20:19And he kind of copied what Brad had done on his own bike.

20:22And he said it just worked much, much better.

20:25And he said it was just able to ride it how he wanted to ride it.

20:29Fast step of the race for this man, Stapleford.

20:30So he will be on pole position.

20:34Excellent from him.

20:36Yeah, slightly longer race tomorrow.

20:37Don't forget as well for Quattro Group British Super 4.

20:40But a fine one.

20:41That was really hard to call.

20:43It was.

20:44And Curry will be in that mix tomorrow as well.

20:46There's Mr. Whittam.

20:47congratulating Ben Wilson and Michael Dibbitt.

20:55Although he was lucky, wasn't it?

20:56Because we thought he might have a jump start.

20:58So very, you know, it's good for him that he's managed to get some points and finish it.
