00:00Hey little kitty, you look in discomfort.
00:08Are you holding your pee again?
00:15Well, don't make this a habit kitty.
00:19Holding pee can make you go kaboom!
00:23You kitty, I'm forced!
00:27To know that, let me answer a long awaited question.
00:31What if you hold your urine for too long?
00:35Zoom in!
00:37There comes a time, when there is an urgent need to pee.
00:42But you didn't want to interrupt what you were doing.
00:46Maybe you were playing a game, watching a movie or hanging out with friends.
00:51Well, it's okay to hold your pee once in a while.
00:55But if you have developed this into a habit, then it's better to get rid of it before it's too late.
01:03Why?
01:04Before we know that, first let us see how the urinary system works.
01:09You see, when you drink water or juice, your body digests and absorbs the nutrients it needs for energy and growth.
01:20And the rest is sent to the kidneys for filtration.
01:24The kidneys filter the waste products, excess water and other substances from the blood to produce urine that contains water, salts and other waste products that your body needs to get rid of.
01:40After urine is produced, it travels from the kidneys through two tubes called ureters and collects in the bladder, which is like a big balloon that gets bigger and bigger as it fills up.
01:56And once about 150 to 200 milliliters of urine have accumulated, the bladder's muscular walls are stretched enough to send a signal to the brain that it's time to go to the bathroom.
02:12In normal circumstances, your bladder pushes the pee out through a tube called the urethra and it goes out of your body.
02:21But if you hold it enough, say about 400 to 500 ml, then the pressure becomes too much to handle as you start to feel really uncomfortable.
02:33And if you make the mistake of holding the urine beyond the level of 1000 ml, your bladder might even burst.
02:43Fortunately, your body got you covered and most people will lose bladder control before it bursts.
02:50However, in very, very rare cases where a person is unable to feel or recognize the sensation of a full bladder, the bladder can actually rupture a serious condition that requires surgical intervention to repair the damage.
03:09Though such a bursting event is very rare and it's unlikely to happen.
03:15However, there are other serious outcomes of holding your pee for too long.
03:21Like a full bladder serves as a perfect breeding ground for many harmful bacteria that cause urinary tract infections or UTIs.
03:34Besides holding your pee for too long, your bladder may get stretched for a long time
03:40and not be able to contract back to its original size easily.
03:46This can cause the bladder to not empty completely, which can be uncomfortable and painful.
03:53Not only that, the excess urine can flow back into the kidneys, resulting in infection or even kidney damage.
04:02So next time you feel the urge to pee, don't be afraid to take a break and go to the bathroom.
04:11Your body will thank you for it.
04:14And if you're ever in a situation where you can't go to the bathroom right away, like on a road trip,
04:21try to take breaks every couple of hours to stretch your legs and give your bladder a chance to rest.
04:28It's trivia time!
04:32Did you know the colour of urine can tell you a lot about your health?
04:38Yes!
04:40Clear or light yellow urine generally indicates that you are well hydrated.
04:46While dark yellow or amber coloured urine may mean that you need to drink more water.
04:53To know more, check out this urinary system video.
04:59It's sketching time!
05:01Today the sketch of the day goes to Vishrut Karnath.
05:06Hope you learnt something vital today.
05:09Until next time, it's me Dr. Binox, zooming out!
05:16Never mind!
05:23You're better off on one side.
05:24I'm like, we can do this!
05:25I have to watch the day and make lots of changes.
05:26Okay.
05:28I'm actually using the night and I'll try to read the book.
05:31I have to continue to read the book.
05:33Let's see if that's the book.
05:35I'm going to read the book.
05:37Now I'll see you and I'm going to read it in my book.
05:39And.
05:41And this thing.
05:42I'm going to read it in my book.
05:44It's been a book.
05:46I'll read it in my book.
05:47I'm leaving it for about 4 minutes to read it.
