00:00Truck and tractor pulling is a competition with all these beautiful machines around us that compete on a clay sand mixture track
00:09with pulling a weight transfer sledge which the further you pull it down the track it gets harder to pull
00:16and it's the guy who pulls it the furthest that wins the competition.
00:21The tractor pulling bug has been passed down.
00:24Grandad was driving a tractor in the late 70s and then my dad and my uncles have done it and now we're still doing it.
00:38We run a three engine modified tractor which runs in the light modified.
00:42I think we started building the tractor in 2019 and we were out with it in 22 so it took us three years to build it.
00:49We started building it in Covid.
00:51What else do you do? Spend some time in the workshop.
00:54Carl, who's with us, he does a lot of the engine work and the fuel setup work.
01:00There's Stan and Andy, they just do the odd jobs and Tom and Simon, he drives the truck with us.
01:06Yeah, we all just do our own roll, it's good.
01:09Sometimes I get off it and I've got a really good fast run and you're pounding, you're shaking, it's really good.
01:14It's the acceleration off the line when you open the throttle, it chucks you back in the seat,
01:18it picks the nose of the tractor up and you're away and you can feel it, yeah.
01:21During an event, I'm a track official.
01:23So you often see me standing on the start line with a set of flags or a set of light gun sticks and hopefully not losing my eyebrows too often.
01:33Does that happen?
01:36We've got close a couple of times.
01:39Usually it's a flash fire, the safety kit kicks in, on the diesel it shuts all the air going to the engine.
01:48On a methanol burner it shuts the ignition off so you have no ignition, no spark.
01:53You might have seen we've got water buckets and fire extinguishers.
01:57Well, tractors like Aftermath run on alcohol and what do you dilute whisky with is water.
02:04So you throw buckets of water on, the spectators love it so it keeps them interested.
02:10When it happens at night it makes for a better video footage and better spectacle.
02:16We do a tractor pull in July at Great Eccleston and then August is our big event of the year.
02:24Friday, Saturday, Sunday on the August bank holiday weekend.
02:27Three Euro Cup competitions as well as all the British classes.
02:31For the first time we've got 4.5 tonne Super Sport Euro Cup class and then we've got the Super Stocks and we've not had the Super Stocks for a few years now.
02:41They're the most powerful bonneted tractors in Europe with about 4.5 to 5,000 horsepower.
02:48They're all in the hunt for winning and so it should be a good action packed three days.
