00:00All I'm saying is when you go to climb a mountain, you don't just jump to the top.
00:06If it's true love, you can.
00:07Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:09And today, we're counting down our picks for the songs from the stage version of Frozen that weren't in the movie,
00:15but are strong enough to melt even the iciest hearts.
00:18If you haven't seen the film or the musical and want no spoilers, consider yourself warned.
00:23We're different, you and I, and it's dangerous.
00:30To dream
00:31Number 10. Finale Let It Go Reprise
00:38All the best musicals end with a finale that stirs something in the audience, and Frozen is no exception.
00:43It's like a dream I thought could never be
00:48Elsa, you're free
00:52The movie wraps on an upbeat note.
00:56Hans is defeated, the sisters reunite,
00:58Olaf gets his personal flurry, and Kristoff and Anna finally become official.
01:03So what better way to celebrate leaving the past in the past, than with the whole ensemble singing about everything they've overcome and the future they'll build together.
01:11It's the perfect send-off. One last chance to belt Let It Go like it hasn't been stuck in our heads for over a decade.
01:25This time, Elsa owns her powers and stands alongside Anna and a kingdom ready for something new.
01:31Let It Go like it has been stuck in our heads for a decade.
01:37Number 9. Let the Sun Shine On.
01:46Much like the film, the first notes we hear on stage come from Vueli.
02:03But instead of meeting our leads through dialogue, it's all sung this time.
02:16The show expands on that moment of young Anna and Elsa playing together, delving deeper into their bond before the accident.
02:25It cleverly uses Do You Wanna Build a Snowman to underscore how close they were before later bringing it back to show how far apart they've grown.
02:32We also get more from the parents and how they push Elsa to conceal her powers.
02:49It brilliantly sets up the key characters, themes, and musical motifs.
02:53This is the story you know, just maybe not quite how you remember it.
03:02Come on, my loves. Time for bed.
03:09Number 8. Hygge
03:11Hygge means comfortable. Hygge means cozy. Hygge means sitting by the fire with your cheeks all rosy.
03:21To Scandinavians, especially the Danes, Hygge means that cozy, snuggly feeling you get when everything's just right.
03:28So it's the perfect way to open Act 2 and warm everyone back up after intermission.
03:33In this number, Oaken, yes, that Oaken of hoo-hoo, big summer blowout fame, takes center stage, declaring his love for the Hygge lifestyle.
03:43To all our family and friends, to Hygge in a storm that never ends.
03:50The whole number is so silly, so catchy, and so committed to its quirky little vibe, that you kind of have to love it.
03:57Especially that ensemble dance number.
03:59Honestly, it might even be more of an earworm than Let It Go.
04:02At the very least, you'll be muttering,
04:05Hygge, Hygge, Hygge, Hygge to yourself for days.
04:08Hygge! Hygge!
04:11The one thing the movie's missing is a proper villain song.
04:24And no, Love is an Open Door doesn't count.
04:27To make up for it, Hans gets a solo and two reprises.
04:30This one, the middle reprise, might just be the most compelling.
04:34But my love for her has made something clear.
04:39We can't give in to fear.
04:41Not here, not today.
04:45Elsa's fled after revealing her powers, and Anna's put Hans in charge while she chases after her.
04:50Here, he cleverly rallies the people, sounding heroic while subtly undermining the sisters.
04:56But what if the cold?
04:57What if the queen?
04:58What if she really is a monster?
05:00She will be dealt with.
05:01And Anna and I will lead you back to summer.
05:04If you didn't know the twist, you wouldn't suspect a thing.
05:07Nothing in the melody hints at betrayal.
05:10It's a great example of how language can sway a crowd,
05:13especially when delivered with that much charm and flair.
05:16Understated, strategic, and quietly chilling.
05:19This one comes in right after Hans reveals himself and locks Anna into Freeze.
05:48She sings about her heartbreak and how her big heart and idealism led her here.
05:52I know this kind of cold, but I had faith in what the story's told of true love.
06:03The song echoes others in the show, like Kristoff's warnings about rushing into love at first sight,
06:08and Elsa's loneliness.
06:10With every lyric, it becomes even more of a gut punch.
06:13It's soft, beautiful, and completely raw.
06:15I was looking for a fairy tale, and dove headfirst into his.
06:24Turns out, you can't find love, if you don't know what it is.
06:31Even now, Anna doesn't want to let go of the idea of true love.
06:36It's for anyone who's clung to a dream with everything they had,
06:39knowing deep down it might never come true.
06:42It's a lovely, aching ballad that'll have you bawling your eyes out.
06:46True love.
06:51True love.
06:55Number five.
06:56I Can't Lose You.
06:57If you saw Frozen on Broadway before February 2020,
07:01you might think,
07:02wait, I don't know this one.
07:03And you'd be right.
07:04I didn't know, I couldn't see.
07:07I knew you were hiding,
07:08but selfishly thought you were hiding from me.
07:15It was introduced later as a replacement for the reprise of For the First Time in Forever,
07:20though the scene plays out pretty much the same way.
07:22Lyrically and melodically,
07:24it borrows from the version of Let It Go that plays over the movie's end credits,
07:28which is actually the only part kept from the earlier number.
07:30Please don't find me.
07:35The past is all behind me.
07:39Unlike its predecessor,
07:41this version has the sister singing more in harmony rather than counterpoint,
07:45like in the movie,
07:46although Elsa still literally sings up a storm.
07:48Why can't you turn to me?
07:50I'm trying to tell you that
07:53I can't lose you like before
07:56I can't lose you like when you open that door
08:01If you love yourself the way I do
08:06Both end in that same icy way.
08:09No, I can!
08:10I know you can!
08:11I told you I'm left!
08:13Oh!
08:14Anna!
08:15Number 4.
08:17What do you know about love?
08:18This is where Anna and Kristoff squabble about love while looking for Elsa.
08:22Okay, then what's his last name?
08:24Of the Southern Isles.
08:29Foot size!
08:30Foot size doesn't matter.
08:32Anna's the wide-eyed romantic who's absorbed her ideas from fairy tales and daydreams.
08:37Some people simply know
08:39When true love says hello
08:41Some folks are taken in by princely looks
08:45Kristoff, meanwhile, is either a cynic or a realist,
08:49depending on who you ask,
08:50And at this point, has never even kissed a woman.
08:53A human one, anyway.
08:54The song bounces off their film dialogue,
08:56unfolding like a witty little sparring match.
08:58Anyone with half a brain
09:00Would have worn some winter gear
09:03Anyone with half a life
09:04Would have one friend
09:06Who's not a dear
09:07I do
09:08Think I Got You Beat from Shrek
09:10But with snow boots and reindeer references
09:12It's sweet, snarky, and packed with charm
09:15Oh, and keep an ear out for the little nod to
09:18Reindeers are better than people
09:19Anyway, their chemistry here could practically melt snow
09:23From What Do You Know About Love, it was clear to all of us
09:39that Anna and Kristoff were meant to be
09:41But here's the moment Kristoff finally catches on
09:43He's totally overwhelmed
09:55Worrying about Anna racing against an icy clock
09:58Feeling the stirrings of love
10:00And quietly breaking inside
10:02Knowing she's engaged to someone else
10:04Through it all, he realizes how much she's changed him
10:07Maybe Anna's dreamy ideals aren't so crazy after all
10:19This lullaby feels like Kristoff trying to calm his own heart
10:23And sung as beautifully as ever
10:25You can't help but feel every ounce of his bittersweet anguish
10:28Even for those of us who know how this all ends
10:31Number 2. Dangerous to Dream
10:49In the film, Elsa sings in counterpoint to Anna
10:52during For the First Time in Forever
10:53This song expands those feelings
10:55Letting Elsa express how she feels about becoming queen
10:59Hiding her powers
11:00And being separated from Anna
11:02In many ways, it echoes true love
11:20With both sisters singing about loneliness
11:22And dreams slipping further from their grasp
11:24Elsa's fears, inner conflict, and vulnerability
11:27Are felt in every note and lyric
11:29If I let call of rules
11:32Who knows how dangerous I'd be
11:36But there's also a flicker of hope
11:42Maybe this is the start of something better
11:44The melody is breathtaking
11:46And will hit home for anyone who feels bound by duty
11:49Afraid to be themselves
11:51Or like they're always waiting for the other shoe to drop
11:54Is it dangerous
11:58To dream
12:05Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions
12:18Hidden Folk
12:19You won't find this one on the original Broadway cast soundtrack
12:22But it scores the events just after
12:24Little Elsa accidentally hits little Anna
12:26With her ice powers
12:28Angry crowds
12:29Jacket ice
12:31Tabber in their eyes
12:33It's all because of me
12:35They look my way and see
12:38A monster!
12:40Queen Anointed
12:42All hail the new Queen Elsa
12:44Colder by the minute
12:55A race against time before Anna totally freezes
12:58A little bit of you
13:09Just two sisters having an icy blast

13:37Number 1. Monster
13:39After discovering she caused Arendelle an eternal winter
13:43Elsa spirals
13:44Wondering if the Hidden Folk's vision was right
13:46And she is a monster
13:48Fear will be our enemy
13:50And death its consequence
13:52That's what they once said to me
13:55And it's starting to make sense
13:58She even contemplates ending it all
14:00If it'll save them
14:01That's just the irony
14:02Her biggest fear is actually hurting others
14:05She's not a monster
14:07And by the end of the song
14:08She knows that
14:09Lyrically, it's got shades of no good deed from Wicked
14:12With Elsa working through a flurry of guilt
14:14Doubt and defiance
14:16Once again, the Lopez's take some painfully real
14:31Painfully human emotions
14:33And set them to the most gorgeous music
14:35As it builds to its thunderous ending
14:37It's impossible not to feel everything Elsa feels
14:40Chills
14:41Feels
14:42All of it
14:43I will not be a monster
14:46I will not be a monster
14:49I will not be a monster
14:51I will not be a monster
14:53I will not be a monster
14:55I will not be a monster
14:56What song that wasn't in the movie
14:57Do you think is worth melting for?
14:59Let us know in the comments
15:01So let it keep on going
15:02We always have each other
15:05The glue gets bruised
15:06We're here, we're unit
15:07So let's have another toast
15:09To all our family and friends
