00:00The Padres did finally beat the Dodgers last night, 5-3, but of course, it was all the extracurricular activities.
00:08Once again, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Shohei Otani getting plunked in the ninth inning.
00:14Here's what started it all off in the top half of the ninth with Tatis on Padres TV.
00:22Oh, up and in, and he gets hit, 93.
00:26And Shilt comes out, barking upset.
00:33Dave Roberts now, and they're going to come together.
00:35Dave Roberts coming out as Shilt was yelling in his direction.
00:39And now, a little shove from Roberts of Shilt.
00:42And now, everybody unloading onto the field.
00:46The manager started, and now the players are involved too.
00:50It was only a matter of time.
00:51And Tati's been hit twice and has each time handled it like a pro.
00:57So, listen, I thought it was fantastic.
01:00And remember that it happened twice this week.
01:04It wasn't once.
01:06It was twice.
01:07And the exact same guys.
01:09Tatis got plunked.
01:11And then Otani got plunked.
01:14And then the same thing happened again last night.
01:17So, Shilt had had enough.
01:20And then I think I actually, I'm taking Shilt over Dave Roberts.
01:26I think Shilt, his anger and his temper was way better than Dave Roberts.
01:33So, I always like the guy that's crazy in a fight.
01:36I'll take the, I'll take Shilt at 3-1.
01:40And I actually think he'd beat Dave Roberts' ass.
01:43And in fact, I hope to see it again later in the season.
01:47And the funniest thing was, was that, you know, Roberts did make some contact with him.
01:52He came up and gave him a little bit of a bump.
01:55But then Roberts, after he did that, like, scurried back behind, like, seven or eight other guys.
02:02And got really far away from him after that.
02:04Because he's a wussy.
02:05That just, that tells you everything.
02:07Now, of course, two very different sides to this story.
02:12Why don't we start with Dave Roberts, who says, I just had the kid out there.
02:15You know, he's making his Major League debut.
02:17You know, he was walking, guys.
02:19He obviously had no control.
02:20There was no intent there.
02:22Talking about intent versus no intent.
02:24And so, I think that anyone understands that there was no intent there.
02:27And even by my reaction, I didn't feel good about Tatis, a great player, good guy, getting hit.
02:35I didn't feel good about it.
02:38And so, as he comes out and he's yelling at me and staring me down, that bothers me.
02:49Because, to be quite frank, that's the last thing I wanted.
02:52I'm taking starters out of the game and, you know, trying to, you know, get this game over and get this kid a couple innings.
03:01And so, that's why I felt, you know, I took that personal.
03:06Because I understand the game and know that I understand it doesn't feel good to get hit.
03:10But understand, again, intent versus clearly no intent.
03:14Okay, so, but he, I'm sure he had a problem with them beaning Ohtani.
03:21So, you know, I say tit for tat.
03:24Like, you bean our guy.
03:26I said this the other day.
03:27You bean Tatis, we're going to bean Ohtani.
03:29That's exactly what should happen.
03:31And you know what?
03:32All this talk about the managers have no idea that their guys are going to beat him.
03:36I don't, I don't care if, if the pitcher beans the star player, then you, you hit their star player.
03:43And then you have a fight.
03:44That's it.
03:45It's simple as that.
03:46I don't care about the wussy manager who is, like, trying to talk his way out of it.
03:51Like, he has nothing to do with it.
03:53And how he loves tatis.
03:55You know, my ass.
03:57They don't like the Padres.
03:58The Padres don't like them.
04:00Let's just have the fight already.
04:02Like, it was so close to happening last night.
04:04I was hoping it would.
04:05Well, the problem was, I think you would have got some, a pretty good one.
04:09But Ohtani, like, waved them back in.
04:12Like, Ohtani got hit.
04:13And then he was, like, waving at the dugout to stay in.
04:17Like, come on.
04:18You know, let him come out.
04:19Pete Rose would have gone out and knocked someone's teeth out.
04:25He would have thrown the punch.
04:26Like, you know, these guys nowadays, they're all talk and there's no fight.
04:32When is the last time you saw a fight?
04:34Nolan Ryan.
04:36Do you remember?
04:37Yeah.
04:37Do you remember when Nolan Ryan, he had him under the arm and he's giving him this business?
04:42That's about the last time I saw somebody get punched in a baseball game.
