00:00While these two baby snakes may look very different they are both banded

00:04water snakes. Snakes can vary in color a lot so it's not really a good tool to

00:09use to ID them. Head shape is also something you can't really use. If you

00:13look at the one on the right it's got a flattened triangular head whereas the

00:16banded snake on the left has a rounded head. This is just because the snake felt

00:20like it was threatened and will flatten its body and head to make itself look a

00:24little bigger or to mimic a venomous snake. What I really look for when I'm

00:27IDing snakes is any sort of patterns, bands, stripes, things like that and also

00:32taking into account the geographic range and the habitat you're finding them in.

00:35And as always if you don't know what it is don't touch it. While these two baby

00:39snakes may look very different they are both banded water snakes. Snakes can vary
