00:00Christian Campbell who had such a great spring and made the team but making the team doesn't

00:06always mean you're going to have a great first season Red Sox are saying the right things here

00:11this is just a pause you know sort of a rework and then maybe we'll see him back at the end of

00:15July and August do you think that that's fair it probably is I do wonder how much they're going to

00:23try to reset some of the the hitting mechanics out of things and and get him to a point where

00:28is it trying to hedge some of the weaknesses here are they going to try to rework his swing in

00:33general because it's a very unorthodox swing and we've had players that have succeeded at the

00:37major league level with an unorthodox swing but I think to the degree that Christian Campbell you

00:42know has has moving parts in an erratic nature and kind of steep path there were some questions for

00:47I had coming into the year as to whether he would be able to hit enough at the big league level I

00:52think what we saw is it's freakish bat speed he's an athlete that is really impressive in the box

00:57so he can get away with some things but as you know Major League Baseball they start to identify

01:03things in those blue zones and they'll start attacking them and executing it and he's the

01:08kind of guy that I think is going to go to AAA and he's going to destroy there so there has to be a

01:11little bit of an intent to okay what was my weakness how do I work on that in a controlled setting

01:16because it's probably going to be one of those things that only really rears its head back at the

01:20big league level but I think another important aspect of this is if people were citing defensive

01:25versatility I don't think it was versatility right it was more what is his actual defensive home and

01:30that's why he was moving around so much in the minor leagues last year and that's why we saw him

01:34moving around a little bit in the big leagues he needs to get better at second base and I think

01:38that's the clear spot the outfield as you alluded to is taken care of and he just I think he lost a

01:43lot of reps at second in the minor leagues while they were trying to see if he could play the outfield

01:47second base is probably where he needs to get better at and I think just being able to focus and work

01:52hard on that without trying to survive in the batter's box every single day I think will be

01:56helpful for his development on that side of the game as well
