This year's Paris Air Show foregrounded the latest developments in aviation and aerospace – whether it’s transforming used cooking oil into aviation fuel, or employing cutting-edge technology into simulations to boost safety.
CGTN’s Sarah Coates reports from Paris.

00:00From cooking French fries to fueling jet planes, used cooking oil is now seen as liquid gold.
00:09It's converted into sustainable aviation fuel as the industry makes green changes
00:15to achieve its goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
00:21So the sources of today is used cooking oil, but tomorrow you will use lino-sizuic biomass residue,
00:27forestry and agricultural residue.
00:30But fueling jet planes with converted oil is costly.
00:34SAF prices can be up to five times higher than traditional fuel.
00:39But in key regions such as here in Europe, those higher costs are being offset
00:44in a bid to ease the burden on airlines as they transition to sustainable aviation fuel.
00:51Another huge breakthrough in the industry, these high-speed simulation systems.
00:57They're transforming aerospace innovation by enabling faster, more accurate and cost-effective design, testing and validation
01:06of aircraft and spacecraft systems.
01:09As we've all experienced, software and, you know, AI and things like computers have all gotten much quicker
01:17and much faster over the last few decades.
01:20And in many ways, hardware development is not as fast as that.
01:24It still takes the same amount of time to design a new car or a new airplane.
01:28We want to bring these tools to bear so that you can design hardware
01:31at the speed that software is developed.
01:34One of the other key topics being discussed is diversification of global supply chains,
01:40especially as U.S. tariffs on the aviation industry are causing turbulence.
01:45I think it's a good opportunity for the qualified, high-quality companies to diversify.
01:54We see companies in China investing in Europe, investing outside of China in Southeast Asia,
02:02just to mitigate the risks.
02:04And also, well, we are in the process of supporting them.
02:08We believe that aerospace is really a global business.
02:12With aviation companies seeing the need for diversification now more than ever
02:18as critical for them to survive and thrive.
