Patriots legend and #nfl Hall of Famer Ty Law joins! What does Ty think of Pats offseason? What about Vrabel?
Transcript
00:00Second one he's come to.
00:02And he gave me a Duran Duran guitar pick last night.
00:06Oh, very nice.
00:08So we should, before we get out of here, do what they do at reunions.
00:12Ashley, do you have extra trucker hats over there?
00:16I'm sweating.
00:17Okay, maybe we'll do a couple of those for longest traveled.
00:21But traveling from, I assume, Rhode Island.
00:24Yeah, Rhode Island.
00:25I came from Rhode Island. It took me two damn hours.
00:28The great tie-laws.
00:30How you doing, man? Good to see y'all, man. Back with the fam.
00:32Yeah, we missed you.
00:34Oh, yeah, definitely, man. Sorry I couldn't make more, man, but I'm glad to be here.
00:37We appreciate that you weren't here leading Wiggy astray last night.
00:41No, I was looking for Ty last night, man. You know, shot o'clock, brother.
00:44Yeah, it's always time.
00:46Always time. We're going to take some shots later on, too, so don't y'all leave when it's over.
00:51Yeah, Greg is going to dip out real slick like he always do.
00:55We ain't going to see him, but I'll be here. We're going to take a shot with everybody.
00:57Look, I have a tooth thing. I think you went through the same thing.
01:03Root canal?
01:03Yeah. Well, no, I had a wisdom tooth. A molar pulled because of wisdom tooth.
01:09Yeah, I had the same thing.
01:09Weren't you dealing with tooth issues?
01:11Yeah, same thing, man. I mean, it ain't no joke, so you probably will take a shot and enjoy it before you go.
01:15Please tell Curtis. He minimizes it.
01:18I have heard more about this effing tooth than the Devers trade this week.
01:24No, real talk, I would rather run into a guy full speed, 300 pounds, than deal with that toothache.
01:30So you've got to be, hey, you've got a right to be afraid.
01:33Have you ever had dry socket?
01:34Huh?
01:36That's in your mouth.
01:37You know what? Damn right.
01:39Yeah. Yeah. I mean, because I had the root canals and stuff.
01:42Yeah, I mean, that's some different type of pain right there.
01:44I'm a wuss, man. I was damn near crying.
01:47Yeah.
01:47Ty had to think about how to answer the dry socket.
01:50Yeah, because you know, you got to say, hold on, let me see what the hell you're talking about, Coco.
01:54All right. Well, it's been a while since we were able to talk Patriots with you,
02:00but offseason-wise, what do you give them for a grade?
02:05I mean, I ain't going to give them no A-plus, you know what I mean?
02:10I ain't going to do that, but I think it's a good draft, much needed,
02:13because you've got your quarterback, so when you take an offensive lineman in the first round,
02:17somebody that can protect them for the long haul, you know, I would give them a good B-B-plus, you know what I mean?
02:25Okay. What would you give grade-wise to Steph Diggs for not having a cousin around to blame the drugs on him?
02:35Oh, man.
02:36Well, he failed because you got caught on tape.
02:43Don't you know his cameras, camera phones around and all that crazy stuff?
02:46Man, I don't know what he was thinking about on that one, but...
02:49It wasn't drugs.
02:50They say it's Altoids.
02:51Yeah.
02:51Yeah, I mean, that's what you're supposed to say.
02:54That's what you're supposed to say, but you know what?
02:56Do you care? You don't care about me.
02:58No, I mean, you know what?
02:59No one got hurt, and the thing is, we're not going to talk about it.
03:02It's going to be all forgot about, but you got to ball.
03:05Yeah.
03:05If you don't ball and you don't show out and come and do Diggs, Stephon Diggs type of things,
03:11it's going to always come back up.
03:13So, you know, the only way to silence that is to go out there and play good football and help this team win.
03:18Or make sure Cotty B's at every game to take out.
03:20Right.
03:21Turn off his play.
03:21Ty, what do you think about Vrabel?
03:23You play with him, obviously.
03:24What do you think about him as the coach of this team?
03:28You couldn't get a better guy, in my opinion.
03:29I still think, you know, Gerard got the short end of the stick, but when you're going to bring somebody in,
03:34you're going to replace them anyway.
03:35I am so glad they did it with Mike Vrabel.
03:37You know, I had the opportunity to play a lot of years when I went a lot of Super Bowls,
03:41a lot of champions, and he's going to have instant credibility as soon as he walks in.
03:45There's one thing about a coach coming in, and you might have respect, but it's somebody that played the game at that level,
03:52and he's responsible for three of those banners.
03:55He was a big part of three of those banners there.
03:57That is the respect that he's going to have that most others can't.
04:01And the other thing is the fact that he did a really good job in Tennessee as a coach,
04:05so you also got to give him his respect as a head coach out there.
04:08Yeah, much respect, and thank you, Tennessee Titans, for firing him.
04:14We appreciate it.
04:15We welcome him home back here.
04:16I know he don't – nobody wants to get fired, but I got fired three times, so we can talk about it.
04:22And we'd like to send a shout-out to the Tennessee Titans.
04:25Did you like the Will Campbell pick?
04:27Huh?
04:28No, I did.
04:29I mean, because you got to – we got our quarterback for the future, so, I mean,
04:33I do like that they have somebody that can protect him, you know what I mean?
04:36Because I don't know what you would say our offensive line was when, you know,
04:41we had the whole – we thought we had our quarterback in Mack Jones.
04:44Right.
04:44But I think May is special, and you have to protect him.
04:48Do you worry about a sophomore slump from him?
04:51You know what?
04:52You got to worry about the sophomore slump with everybody.
04:54Okay.
04:54Because when you play decent ball as a rookie, it's always, oh, he's good, he's good.
05:01If you don't play good ball, oh, he's a rookie.
05:04If you play good ball, he's a rookie.
05:05Let's see what you do next year.
05:06So, this is going to tell the tale because now people saying that, you know,
05:10defensive coordinators are going to be like, oh, this guy can play.
05:12Let's see what he's going to do now when we throw this at him, when we throw that at him.
05:15So, this is going to be very, very important for him to go out there and play well.
05:19And if he doesn't, guess what?
05:21We're going to have quarterback conversations again.
05:23We're going to say, we're picking that in the draft.
05:26You should have picked – you had a chance to pick Shador, anything.
05:29You know what I mean?
05:29Yeah.
05:29That's going to be the narrative.
05:31I was talking last night at our event at Wally's with a Steelers fan who says he believes that everybody
05:39is underestimating the season that we are going to get from Aaron Rodgers this year.
05:49He's done.
05:50He's done?
05:51Yeah, he's cooked.
05:52He was awful.
05:53Done?
05:54He was awful with the Jets.
05:55He looked like he was 100 years old.
05:57He is.
05:58He won't make it through the entire season.
06:00The argument from the – is the Steelers fan here?
06:02The argument was that there is way less media pressure in Pittsburgh than there was in New York.
06:08What?
06:08I don't know about that.
06:09Yeah, Pittsburgh's a hard market.
06:11That was his argument.
06:13All right.
06:13And that he has better personnel.
06:15I agree with the better personnel.
06:16And he has a way better coach.
06:18Yeah.
06:19Way, way better coach.
06:20And Ty just talked about respecting the coach as a player.
06:23Right.
06:23You're going to go into an environment where it's Mike Tomlin.
06:27And Ty, you can kind of talk about that a little bit because when you left New England,
06:31you were established, right?
06:33Right.
06:34And then you went to an organization where it's about the head coach and how he runs his team
06:40and what that coach is like.
06:42Right.
06:42Our culture is everything.
06:44And the one thing that the culture is not going to have to adjust to Aaron Rodgers.
06:49Aaron Rodgers is going into a situation where he's going to have to adjust to the Pittsburgh Steelers,
06:55Mike Tomlin's culture.
06:55So that's a totally different dynamic.
06:58When I went to New York, when I played with Brett Favre, it was a little bit that it was
07:04adjusting to Brett instead of Brett adjusting, you know, to the Jets organization.
07:10You know, when you came in here to the Patriots, we didn't give a damn who you were, how much
07:13you were getting paid.
07:14You had to adjust to the culture what we built in that locker room and coach Belichick.
07:18So you had to make the adjustment.
07:20So he's going into something that he never had to do before.
07:23He created the culture in Green Bay.
07:24Hey, you go to New York, they pay you all that money and all these expectations.
07:28So he doesn't have to, they have to adjust to him.
07:30They had to adjust to him.
07:31Yeah.
07:31Not the Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike Tomlin.
07:33Not Mike Tomlin.
07:34Hell no.
07:34Yeah, and he has too many guys.
07:35And then we talk about guys in that locker room.
07:37You got guys like Cam Hayward.
07:39You got guys like, you know, I know TJ Watt wants more money, but you have guys in that
07:44locker room.
07:44And he don't get more money.
07:45Right.
07:45You got guys in that locker room that can easily say, hey, Aaron, this is how we do things.
07:50Similar to, you always talk about when Rodney Harrison got here.
07:53Yeah.
07:53And like, hey, this is how we do things.
07:54Yeah, exactly.
07:55And that's a great example.
07:57But that was also somebody willing to come in and say, you know what?
08:01I'm a part of y'all team.
08:03I was established when I went to New York.
08:04I was one of the Indians.
08:05But guess what?
08:06I got to adapt to you guys.
08:08You guys got to adapt to me.
08:09When I went to Kansas City, it was a little different.
08:12But I have to ingrain myself into your organization.
08:15I can't come in here thinking I'm high and mighty just because I came from the Patriots
08:19and we winning and we whooped your ass all these years.
08:22I mean, I got to sit there and be humble and say, I got to adjust to those guys.
08:26So Aaron Rodgers, he's going to get humbled by Mike Tomlin.
08:29Even if he did go in, Mike Tomlin has a way of sophisticated humbleness.
08:35Yeah.
08:35Ooh.
08:35I like that.
08:36I love it.
08:37I have a question.
08:38Someone that is always humble and seems to be adapting well to his new environment,
08:42Bill Belichick, North Carolina.
08:45What do you think of Bill's life?
08:48And what do you think about North Carolina this year?
08:51Well, Bill's life right now, that's a damn good reality show right now.
08:58Oh, yeah.
08:58That's a good one.
08:59I mean, more power to him.
09:01But I think how all the guys, every former player says, oh, yeah.
09:06There's always the pause.
09:07More power to him.
09:08Yeah.
09:09No, I think more power to him.
09:11It's my daughter.
09:12We have different goddamn conversations.
09:15You're not invited to the cookout.
09:17Hell no.
09:18But, you know, I'm going to stay out of that one.
09:21Wait, wait, wait.
09:22Your daughter.
09:23Is the same age.
09:24And she brought, she's the same age.
09:26Yeah.
09:27And if she brought Bill Belichick to a family cookout, you would.
09:30His ass better be coming to see me.
09:32He better be coming to see his whole thing.
09:38You can't control her life, her whole life.
09:41Oh, we got a problem.
09:41Yeah, you can.
09:42No, I can't control her, but I'm going to damn sure try.
09:46In my house, in my roof, in my rules.
09:49And Ty, pull that mic back up.
09:52Oh, yeah.
09:52In my rules, my house.
09:54Your house.
09:54And, hey, no, and she, hey, I'm going to hold my daughter hostage.
09:59She ain't going.
09:59She's 25.
10:00No, hell no.
10:02Bill's 70.
10:03Bill going to get his ass whipped.
10:05All right.
10:07Ty, I have a quick question.
10:09Oh, you want to do the thing next, the 25-year team?
10:11Yeah, let's do that.
10:12Perfect.
10:13Yeah.
10:13Ty Law's here.
10:14He brought his vodka, Corvus.
10:17Yeah, we here.
10:18Everything going good with Corvus?
10:19Yeah, everything's going great, man.
10:21We're out here every day.
10:22I'm leaving here, and I've got to go to Vegas as soon as I leave here.
10:25We out there.
10:25We working.
10:26We expanding a little bit, but New England is home, though.
10:30New England's home.
10:31Okay.
10:31All right, so Ty Law's going to hang out.
10:33We're at Bernie's on the beach in Hampton.
10:35Roadshow number six.
