In today’s Daily Reflection we explore the question, “Who am I?”—a question about identity that guides our lives but often leaves us uncertain when we rely on self-created labels. In the Christian faith, however, our identity is received from God, rooted in relationship with Him and others, transforming us from autonomous individuals into beings connected in community.WATCH THE DAILY REFLECTION ABOVE

00:04Welcome to St Michael's Church in New Haven. My name is Marcus Mack. The question, who am I,
00:12deals with our identity, which are like living guides directing our lives. Intrigued by what a
00:19four-year-old would say, I asked my daughter, who are you? Gianna was the reply. I then asked,
00:25who is Gianna? And she replied, I don't know. Still developing and growing in understanding,
00:32that is a fair and honest answer. I sometimes ask adults, tell me about yourself, who is Alex,
00:39for example? The general response is, oh, I don't really know. I do this as a job, I'm in this
00:45relationship from this place, and I like doing this hobby. Self-created identities fail to provide
00:51secure foundations and leave us without the resources to navigate and flourish in an ever-changing
00:58world. In the Christian faith, we do not create our identity, we receive it. God created us for
01:05himself, so we no longer belong only to ourselves. Our identity now includes another. Who we are is
01:13rooted in who God is. And because God is three distinct persons in relationship with each other,
01:18our identity is rooted in relationship with God. My identity is no longer me as an autonomous being,
01:27but us together in the world.
