Mike Payton discusses the Detroit Lions chances of having someone win rookie of the year!

00:00If there's one rookie on this roster right now that could potentially win

00:03Rookie of the Year for the Lions, it's this guy that we're about to talk about.

00:07Let's jump into it.

00:11Hi, Mike Payton from A to Z Sports Detroit.

00:13Today we're going to talk about something a little different.

00:15Somebody was asking me who I thought could potentially win Rookie of the Year,

00:19who has the best opportunity to win Rookie of the Year for the Lions,

00:23offensively or defensively.

00:25And after thinking about it for a long time, going over it,

00:29my initial thought was Ahmed Hassanin.

00:31I truly believe that guy's going to be really good.

00:34But I think the guy who has the best chance is Isaac Tesla.

00:38Now, Tesla is somebody who the Lions really fell in love with

00:42throughout the pre-draft process.

00:45Wound up trading up for him, giving up a lot.

00:47Three third round picks just to go get this kid.

00:50They must see something in him.

00:51Now, he has 4'3 speed.

00:53He has the ability to go up, make the contested catch,

00:57high point the ball in the end zone.

00:59That tells me that this guy is going to see some targets.

01:01I believe that he is going to be jumping over Tim Patrick

01:05and becoming that wide receiver three in the depth chart.

01:10I think that this guy has some real ability.

01:13Now, what would it take?

01:14Obviously, it can't be your average wide receiver three season.

01:19He has to just be unbelievable.

01:21He has to somehow get to 1,000 yards.

01:24That's going to be really hard for him to do.

01:26Ultimately, I don't think anybody on this team is actually going to win rookie of the year.

01:30But I do believe if you're looking at a guy who can make moments and get votes,

01:37get notoriety, it's got to be the receiver.

01:40And it has to be Tesla for the Lions because I see this guy.

01:44Like I said, the high point ability, he's somebody who could probably score a lot of touchdowns for this team.

01:49But he gets up somewhere around eight touchdowns this year.

01:53Even if he has 500, 600 yards, he could be in contention to win the award.

01:59I ultimately think he's going to get something more like 400 yards, four touchdowns, somewhere in that realm.

02:07But he's a player to watch for.

02:08He's a player that could potentially do something bigger than that.

02:12We know the Lions had a lot of injuries last year.

02:15What if that injury stuff happens over on the offensive side?

02:18Knock on wood.

02:21What if that happens on the offensive side?

02:24If that happens, then that's going to get Tesla some more targets.

02:28That's going to give him some more opportunities to win rookie of the year.

02:31Ultimately, like I said, I don't think it's going to be any guys on the Lions roster

02:35unless it's potentially Tesla or Ahmed Hassanin, like I mentioned earlier at the top of the video.

02:42But those are the guys who have the best chance on this roster.
