00:07first of all congratulations on i mean the continued success 20 years of success um and

00:13type dangerous is so fun i want to start with that and dive right into it you dropped this new single

00:17love to know what inspired the energy and like the sound for this next era well it's based on

00:24a sample of one of my favorite favorite all-time songs by eric b and rakim um eric b is president

00:31and i was blessed to have rakim come out and perform with me um on the bet awards so that was

00:42amazing and i'm just excited to have new music out i mean the sample's so good also having anderson

00:49pack on it um what like drew you to the track and how did that collab happen it was all anderson it

00:54was just only because it was anderson no i'm kidding we love anderson eric b is president was the was one

01:02of my favorite songs um ever and um we decided to to loop that record and go all the way in in the

01:12studio and it was just it's still one of my favorite songs and now that it's you know basically

01:19my song we're on the mariah version um you know i'm excited about it we're all excited we're so happy

01:28that we have new music from you by the time this chat comes out the video will be here too give us

01:34like a sneak peek or like behind the scenes of what it was like making the type dangerous video

01:38it's a pretty high budget high everything video pulling out all the stops pulling out all the

01:45stops got you amazing and with your new album deal you get to you know create completely like in your

01:51own terms what kind of freedom does that feel like like an unlock for you especially you know

01:56uh at this point in your career it feels great i mean i'm i'm loving being able to just do what i

02:03want and you know and really just like live in the space of making new music and all of that

02:13but you've created so many of um these iconic vocal moments in like pop history when you think about

02:18your own discography is there a song that like still surprises you with how it resonated so much

02:24with the fans maybe fantasy because they didn't think i should do that song and you know why would

02:32i work with you know odb um because they didn't understand that was my choice and um anyway it ended

02:43up being like one of my favorite one of my biggest songs ever so there you go oh my gosh well

02:50congratulations on the emancipation of mimi celebrating its 20th anniversary the album was

02:55such like a powerful reintroduction moment um what does that era mean to you when you look back

02:59it means a lot to me people were having parties for the emancipation of mimi they were having moments

03:05it was it was amazing so to know that that song which was a turning point in my life that album

03:12which was a turning point in my life um would become something that really has a long lifespan

03:19is is pretty amazing speaking of lifespans congrats and happy belated birthday to your twins who just

03:25turned 14 rock and roll thank you yes come to rock and roll happy moment yeah are they in an age now

03:33where they're more than just a hype crew are they giving you like any kind of music critiquing like

03:37feedback on stuff no that's why i don't play for them yeah okay so they just they just come on stage

03:44when they can and give their own flair yes oh my gosh what are you most excited about in this next

03:50era and for your fans to hear in this new music well i hope they like it i you know i i wasn't really

03:56playing any of the new music until recently because we couldn't because it was brand new um and now i'm

04:05like oh this is so exciting because i'm able to you know not the whole new album because we're just

04:11we're waiting on that um soon but um you know the the new single type dangerous has really um been

04:21doing well so that's very exciting for me for sure do you still have things on your like bucket list

04:26that you want to accomplish whether it's music or not i never really had a bucket list yeah you're just

04:33doing it huh just doing it racking things up um i love it was so good to catch up with you i can't

04:40wait to hear more of the album and more music congrats on type dangerous um and it's nice to hear from

04:45you like in this time of year you know i mean obviously like people joke that you defrost every

04:49november but like what's your actual every november just kidding i'm always curious what is like your

04:55actual vibe when those memes start rolling in i think it's funny i think it's cute it's it's christmas

05:01i'm in a whole zone like yeah and have whatever they want they could say whatever they want to

05:06say but like it's in my zone of loving and living for christmas absolutely and well it's so great to
