Dry and sunny for the vast majority, with clouds in the far northwest bringing the odd spot of drizzle over the Western Isles, which tends to fade away. Temperatures widely reach the mid to high 20s across England and Wales, with a few places exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. This is the Met Office UK weather forecast for the afternoon of 19/06/2025. Bringing you today’s forecast is Alex Deakin.
00:00Hot and sunny for most today and the heat will rise a little further over the next couple of days, probably peaking on Saturday.
00:08UV levels and pollen levels are also going to be high or very high, all thanks to high pressure, keeping the clouds at bay.
00:16There's been quite a cloudy zone across northwest Scotland from a weather front.
00:20There is low pressure out in the Atlantic and that will just push this chain of clouds,
00:25which contains a few thunderstorms just up towards western areas later today.
00:30But for the vast majority, as I said, dry and sunny sums it up.
00:33The cloud in the far northwest provided the odd spot of drizzle over the western isles, but that should tend to melt away.
00:39Certainly for most of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, plenty of hot sunshine this afternoon.
00:44Bit of a breeze on some north sea coasts, keeping things a touch cooler here and with more cloud across northern Scotland.
00:50Temperatures aren't exceptional here either.
00:52But elsewhere, we are seeing those numbers ticking up.
00:56Certainly for England and Wales, widely into the mid to high 20s and a few places ticking over 30 degrees Celsius for the first time this year.
01:05Now, as we go through the evening and overnights, the cloud just increasing a bit across northern Ireland.
01:10So the chance of a rumble of thunder here, perhaps heading into southwest Scotland through the night.
01:14And later in the night, we could also see that cloud increasing the far southwest of England, southwest Wales.
01:20And again, you might just get woken up by a rumble of thunder or a flash of lightning.
01:24But for most places, it's a dry night.
01:26It's a clear night.
01:27It's a really warm night across the south and southwest.
01:30Temperatures in towns and cities holding up in the high teens, 18, 19 Celsius as a low.
01:36That's going to be pretty uncomfortable for sleeping.
01:39So a warm start to a hot day on Friday.
01:42There will be more clouds higher up in the sky tomorrow.
01:44So the sunshine a little more hazy for most of England and Wales.
01:48And again, we could just spark one or two isolated thundery showers.
01:53Parts of Wales, southwest England, late in the day across parts of northern Scotland.
01:57The possibility of a storm being created here too.
02:00But they'll be, I say, very isolated.
02:02The vast majority having another dry and sunny day and another hot one.
02:07Temperatures likely to get up more over 30 degrees Celsius, perhaps 31, perhaps 32.
02:13Depends exactly on how much of that higher cloud we see.
02:16But a hotter day for Scotland and northern Ireland noticeably as well.
02:20And the heat likely to peak, as I said, on Saturday.
02:24But Friday evening is going to be very warm indeed.
02:26Again, a difficult night for sleeping.
02:28Still one or two of those showers and perhaps thunderstorms across northern Scotland rumbling on into the evening.
02:34The cloud thickening in the southwest again as well.
02:37As that low pressure just edges a little bit closer, pushing the high pressure a little further away.
02:42Between the two, the wind's wafting up from the south.
02:45That's why the heat is continuing to build into Saturday.
02:49But through the weekend, the low pressure winds out.
02:51And we could well spark further thunderstorms on Saturday.
02:55Some big ones are possible.
02:57And look at how the winds have changed direction.
02:58By the time we get to Sunday, they're much more coming in from the west.
03:01So a cooler Atlantic flow.
03:04So we will see those temperatures dropping away.
03:07In fact, if we rewind, you can see the heat continuing to build through Friday night and into Saturday.
03:13That warm air wafting up from the south.
03:15But then as the low pressure takes in and the wind switch direction, the heat gets pushed away during Sunday.
03:21So temperatures will be dipping off by Sunday.
03:23But certainly before that, plenty of hot and sunny weather.
03:26Saturday is likely to be the peak of the heat.
03:28But also, that's one of the greatest risks of some nasty thunderstorms spreading up from the south.
03:33Wales, the Midlands, northern England, southern Scotland.
03:35In this zone, the potential for some quite lively downpours that could cause a few issues.
03:41So that's something we need to keep a close eye on a developing situation as we go through the weekend for the possibility of some big thunderstorms.
03:48As I said, Saturday likely to be the peak of the temperatures across the east.
03:5233.
03:52Again, it depends on the amount of cloud.
03:54We could see 34 by that stage, not as hot for the west, but it'll still be pretty warm and humid until that fresher air arrives as we head into Sunday.
04:04Plenty going on.
