Cholera confined to Jajpur, no spread to Puri: Odisha Health Department

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), June 19, 2025 (ANI): Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department of Odisha, Aswathy S, on June 18 said that cholera has so far been detected only in Jajpur and has not spread to other areas such as Puri. She informed that every reported cholera or diarrhoea death is being audited by a team of doctors. “Every reported cholera or diarrhoea death is being audited by a team of doctors... The outbreak hasn't spread to Puri... The cholera test has been found positive in Jajpur, not in other districts yet," said Aswathy S, on the cholera and diarrhoea outbreak in the state.

00:00See, yesterday we had an inpatient new admission of approximately 300.

00:04So even minor cases, we are requesting the hospital not to discharge them,

00:09but to keep them at least for 24 hours under observation

00:12so that they are stabilized and then they are sent back.

00:16So today also our inpatient number has not gone up.

00:20New admission happens to be almost similar to yesterday.

00:23However, the good thing is that mild cases are coming,

00:25which means that people are not waiting for it to become serious,

00:28even if they are having just some symptom.

00:31The moment it starts, they are coming to the hospital,

00:34and we would like to encourage that.

00:37Sunintu, yeah, every death reported is being audited by a team of doctors

00:42consisting of our state government doctors and also members of the expert team,

00:47the central team.

00:48And so far we have information about 10 cases that is already audited.

00:54We have information of two more cases that is being audited.

00:58And at the same time, we have also, after the audit,

01:02we found that three other cases that were reported were not related to

01:07or caused by the outbreak.

01:09So each case will be audited.

01:12It hasn't spread, it hasn't spread the outbreak.

01:20The cholera test is positive so far, though we are collecting more samples and sending every day.

01:27It has come positive in Jajpur, not in other districts yet.

01:31However, we are remaining vigilant about it.

01:35We are alert, and it is not spread.

01:39There was, see, during monsoon, sporadic diarrheal cases happens all over the state.

01:45That has happened, that has always happened, and we expect that during monsoon.

01:51But an outbreak, just like the one that happened in Jajpur, there is no spread to Kuri yet.

01:57However, the preventive aspects of keeping health and hygiene,

02:04deploying more officers to Kuri for checking the water sources, that we have already done.
