00:00Well, it was some run to the final of the Darts World Cup for Wales
00:07as Johnny Clayton and Gerwin Price, of course,
00:10yes, losing in the final to Northern Ireland in what was quite the story,
00:14but the fact that they were able to go further than the likes of England,
00:18for example, in the Netherlands, in this Darts World Cup,
00:21just shows how good of a pairing Johnny Clayton and Gerwin Price are
00:26in the current world of darts.
00:28It's lots to discuss, of course, with the tournament itself
00:30and, of course, the disappointment of losing in the final,
00:32but I think if we focus on the positives,
00:35because I think you have to for Wales when they're against such big opposition,
00:39getting that far in the tournament, I think, deserves an awful lot of credit.
00:43We can go now to our Wales Ford correspondent, Charles Hay-Jones.
00:47Charles, obviously there is disappointment, as I mentioned there,
00:50losing in the final, not what Wales would have wanted,
00:53not what Johnny Clayton would have wanted,
00:54not what Gerwin Price would have wanted,
00:55but getting further than some of the big darts nations surely stands in good stead,
01:02both for them as a nation and for their respective individual careers this season,
01:07of course, Gerwin Price.
01:08He picked up a few night wins in the Premier League this year.
01:11Johnny Clayton, obviously not part of the Premier League,
01:14but, you know, decent in the World Championship.
01:16So, lots to be positive about, I guess, from a Wales point of view and Welsh darts.
01:22And then how do they build on this as well,
01:24both individually and together as a pairing in the time going forward?
01:28What are your thoughts?
01:31Yeah, obviously, an incredibly strong campaign from Gerwin Price and Johnny Clayton of Wales.
01:38Seeded number two.
01:39Obviously, you know, they're fantastic in the World Cup.
01:43They've won it twice over the last five years.
01:45They've been unbelievable in the competition.
01:47Also, getting to another final as well.
01:49And their road to the final, they were flying through sides.
01:53You know, they lost in that incredible last leg decider against Northern Ireland.
01:57Northern Ireland winning it for their first ever time.
02:00I mean, the sort of collaborative effort between Josh Rock and Darrell Gurney was fantastic to see as well.
02:06And I'm sure, you know, fair play to it to Gerwin Price.
02:09He gets this sort of bad rep at times, but you saw him clapping on that stage.
02:13You saw him understanding and appreciating the quality of dance that was in that final leg.
02:19You know, probably the best World Cup final we've ever seen.
02:23You know, maybe bar England, Australia all those years ago.
02:26But an incredible final, an incredible competition, you feel, in the early rounds.
02:32It probably wasn't giving us much coverage in terms of the tickets sold, etc.
02:36But Wales go into every single World Cup of Darts, every pairs competition.
02:40The bond that Price and Clayton have together, the form, the consistency they both have is unbelievable.
02:48I mean, you know, going into the tournament, Clayton was with the European Tour title and the highest world ranking that he's ever been.
02:55And then Price with multiple players' championship wins and Premier League final appearances as well.
02:59Plenty of nine darters in the Premier League as well.
03:02So, an amazing sort of bond.
03:04And obviously, you touched on there, England.
03:06Yes, England were incredibly disappointing.
03:08And I think England needs to take a leap out of Wales' book and actually look at the, you know, collective effort,
03:15the team togetherness they have that really gets them over the line.
03:20I mean, you know, the team strength that, you know, Clayton brings a bit of consistency,
03:25while Price really goes raw power.
03:27And I feel this is one of, simply one of the strongest duos.
03:31You know, you sort of saw that with the likes of Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis.
03:34The reason why they've won so many World Cup titles is you have one calm and you have one who sort of goes for it a bit more.
03:41And that is Clayton and Price to a tee.
03:44You know, I feel that they have to be favourites going into pretty much every World Cup now.
03:48They've made another final.
03:49They've obviously had multiple wins under their belt.
03:54I mean, it just shows where Welsh darts are at the moment.
03:57They are one of the best, best sides.
04:00They are one of the, you know, most well-represented nations in the sport.
04:05And wants the best out of Gerwin Price.
04:07He's a real character on the stage.
04:09And he's as his pantomime villain sort of act, but a lovely guy behind closed doors.
04:14And Wales are represented so well.
04:17Yes, a bit disappointing they didn't get over the line.
04:19But I'm sure, you know, there's not really much you can do with the 11 dart legging in that World Cup final to decide it.
04:27And, you know, it's going to be an interesting year.
04:30There's still plenty of big tournaments, plenty of majors to come.
04:33And both of them are going to really have a good go at them.
04:36And, you know, this World Cup is something that Wales have brought to the forefront of darts.
04:41And long may that continue.
04:42And long may that continue.
