Home education advocate Pip Rothwell says there are more families pulling children out of schools

A mum-of-two and founder of a home education company says more families should look into the option of removing children from school.

00:00What COVID did was show families that there was an alternative and show families that actually this might work better for their child.

00:07And I think the other thing that it probably opened up people's eyes to was that it was an option in the first place.

00:13So many people don't realise that school in the UK currently is an opt-in service.

00:19You know, you don't have to send your child to school.

00:21I think we all assume that that is the given, but actually the law is that the responsibility of the education lies with the parent.

00:29If you choose to send them to school, that's fine.

00:31But as long as you are educating them in some way, the responsibility still lies with you.

00:35So I think there was almost not an ignorance, but a lack of awareness as to actually what your rights were as a family, as a parent of a child.

00:43And now more people are aware that actually they do have the right to choose to home educate.
