Yanuni is a cinematic portrait of Juma Xipaia, an Indigenous chief from the Brazilian Amazon who rises from a remote village to the frontlines of climate justice. After surviving six assassination attempts, she is appointed Brazil's first Secretary of Indigenous Rights--while her husband, a federal IBAMA agent, leads dangerous operations against illegal gold miners. As Juma navigates political power, growing threats, and impending motherhood, she is forced to confront the personal cost of resistance. The documentary from producer Leonardo DiCaprio and director Richard Ladkani closed the 24th annual Tribeca Festival at the OKX Theater at BMCC TPAC in New York City Saturday evening.

00:00You know Juma is an amazing voice of the Amazon. I can't believe that that she gave me the trust
00:08and that she allowed me into her home and into her community because she really needed to lead
00:15the way. She's a voice that the world needs to hear. We have stopped listening to the indigenous
00:21people and I hope we can change that through this film. So I'm so grateful we're here and
00:25that we could make this film together. As a producer I'm proud to help bring the story
00:29to the world. He's a great friend and ally. He was there from the very beginning. He helped raise the
00:36funds for this film. He was connected throughout production, opened doors. He was involved in the
00:42editing of the film up to Final Cut. So he was there all the way and I'm so happy that he will be
00:47introducing the film tonight and it's a great honor and it's amazing to work with him. Not just about
00:52the people but about the forest, the injustice against the people, the injustice against the forest.
